Because some people still need to use software that's Window's only. There's a massive amount of medical software that isn't available for the Mac. If there was THAT would boost Mac sales.

Well if you want to run a couple of apps for windoze why not just buy a cheap PC ?

If I wanted to look at pictures, watch video and listen to music I could carry a photo album, buy a portable cd player, carry a lot of CDs and a buy portable DVD player. Buy instead you could just buy an iPod. That's why you wouldn't buy an cheap PC.

You're missing the point. It's less expensive, easier to manage, and more productive to have one machine than two for a single user. Almost no one uses two personal computers at the same time.

So you mean dual boot not windows on a mac right?

It's quit simple..

This topic is about putting windows on a mac or os x on a pc.
I asked why anybody would want to put windows on a mac..

Hello?
I realize that. Your last post was not a complete sentence and I didn't understand what you were saying.

Simple question, do you want two pc's udner your desk at your house or at work, and have to switch back and forth between monitors, or in the case of the iMac, have two monitors. Do you have room, or more aesthetically, does the idea of two computers on your desk appeal to you.

Yeah, well, me neither. Does that answer your question?

Sorry chap..In my world "dual-boot" has one meaning...

Booting two O/S's off the same platform..

I don't think anyone on a Macrumors forum wants to run Windows exclusively. Everyone is talking about a dual-boot or emulation option.

Okay I'm a (mainly) Windows software developer but I *hate* Windows and so try to use my PowerBook for everything. However, I can only develop Windows software on a Windows PC. Here's what I currently have to do...

At home I put my PowerBook on a desk in my room with a large screen. I drilled a hole in my wall and ran a wire to a Windows PC in a cupboard in the hall. I remote desktop into this machine to develop. So for my house I had to buy a desktop machine, drill a hole in my wall and run Ethernet wires to it.

When travelling (which I do a lot) I have all my emails, calendars etc on my PowerBook so I can't leave that. But I need a Windows machine to develop on. I have to carry my PowerBook AND a Sony laptop whenever I go anywhere for more than a day. Very very awkward and uncomfortable and completely infuriating.

In the office I've had to buy another PC to put under my desk. Again, I remote desktop into this to develop in Windows.

So, for me not being able to dual boot has meant drilling holes in my wall, buying two desktop PCs and one Sony laptop. Basically, not being able to dual boot has cost me thousands!

Would I like a laptop that could dual boot? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YES!!!!!

All i want is windows for games. make it local-only, so no virus' can get in. that is all i want, on a laptop.

why would you run Windows on a Mac. thats stupid. runing OS X on PC would make sense. running xp on an mac would be like be like driving a ferrari with a honda civic engine in it
Windows is a fact of life. Deal with it.

Try as you might (reading PC files, Mac Office, Virtual PC) there are still times you just plain need a Windows PC for something. My Boss is a die-hard, trying to use his PowerBook at the office all the time, but there are just times when he can't do some things on it and has to go back to his desk to grab his Dell.

The Ferrari/Honda analogies are lame and childish. I'd look at it more like a hybrid car with two motors, each one has benefits and drawbacks and they can compliment each other.

Some people love Apple's industrial design so much that they'd use Apple hardware to run the Microsoft OS they NEED to run. Take for example the slot loading disc drive -- why doesn't everybody do that?

I'm excited over both possibilities. I've even had OSX running on my HP latpop as an experiment with the DTK leaks. That actually interests me more, because I am a technical person. The idea of running XP on a Mac is interesting but more of a vanity thing for Apple's hardware design.

I hate how Journalists always make it sound like Microsoft Office does not run on Mac OS X

Just not all of it... No Access, Entourage and Exchange aren't identical, forget the fringe stuff like MS Project, Mappoint, etc.

Entourage and Access run fine under Rosetta..I've been using it for 5 months.

First, I didn't say Entourage doesn't run under Rosetta. I said it's not identical to Exchange (I meant Outlook).

Second, nice trick running Access on Rosetta. When did Rosetta start running Windows applications? There is no Access for the Mac. In fact, the following office apps don't exist on the Mac:

Access
FrontPage
InfoPath
LiveMeeting
MapPoint
OneNote
Outlook
Project
Publisher
Visio

Anonym.OS

This is a little off topic... but... when someone gets their new intel mac, you should see if you can get anonym.OS working on it. It's a BSD core built for x86 that comes on a bootable CD... I'm just wondering if it will work on a mac!

I think windows on mac hardware will be great, won't personally use it though. I don't think theres a risk of windows users installing OSX instead, more Mac users trying to save a bit of money by buying cheap hardware.
