Whatever happened to windows phone 1 thru 6...

They went the same way as iPhone OS 1 thru 3.

I'm actually looking forward to looking at these phones, and this enforces my support for the phone if it turns out to be great. I love my iPhone, but if Verizon doesn't end up carrying it really soon, I might have to make the tough choice to finally switch over to a different carrier and phone, that it does the most basic thing it's supposed to do well, sustain an effin phone conversation. I'm glad MS is taking the time to support this phone on a Mac, that says alot. Good job!

Unless you were keeping track of phone OSes back in 1996, you probably missed the initial release. And Windows CE version 6 was released over 4 years ago, Before the original iPhone was released as well.

migration

This will provide a future migration path for Window 7 phone users on PC to Mac... doubt many will go in the other direction, but if they do, at least they recognize OSX as a major platform.

Mine's running fine, and is a better phone (VzW) than friends who have another phone that's only available with AT&T.

They're so embarrassed to have to ask to borrow my Windows phone to make a call when we're in one of the many AT&T "dead zones".

The whole Xbox Live Gamerscore intergration is really tempting me. They're gonna have to sort Copy & paste and multi tasking to really make me consider switching to Mr Gates though

Same thing that happened to System 8 through 10.

It's only a matter of time before Apple puts a stop to the iTunes synching like they did to Palm..

Nah, they won't. Big difference.
Palm was masquerading as an iPod to sync from iTunes itself.
MS is doing the approved thing of utilizing public API and xml formats in their own app.
Apple will be see this as perfectly kosher.

Why so many naysaying idiots?

I for one will be happy to give the new phone a chance. I use a Mac Mini and an iPad daily, in addition to my iPhone 3GS, BUT for music playback I use a ZuneHD due to better sound quality. Thanks to my iPad I can get my app fix without the iPhone if the Windows7 phone is as good as it appears to be.

Too many Apple idiots here are making baseless comments on a total lack of information or experience. A personal example: I derided the iPad at first, but after buying one, I sold my old Macbook and haven't looked back.

Apple fanboys...get over yourselves.

Too late. I gave up windows mobile when I had to pull out my crappy PC laptop from 2002 just to install programs on my phone.

Cool I guess. I just don't see this taking off with Mac users, IMHO

Why?

I'm loving iOS and all the apps and content I bought from iTunes - it's just that I'm running most of it on my iPad these days. My iPhone hardly gets used for apps - mostly music and a bit of browsing.

The iPad means I'm now free to buy any sort of phone. I haven't tried the MS phone, but if it's good then why not? Fun to try a few different things.

And since this time 'round MS are in a distant last place - which seems to have driven them to actually produce something a bit different from iOS, Android and Symbian.

Be Very careful who you call a idiot, Have you looked in a mirror lately?

Instead of throttling up a negative post from a Non Apple User coming off as a Apple User; be selective before jumping in the firing line.

Have a Nice day.

But your using 'choice'......

Something a lot of people on MR seem to view as heresy.

Fools being those who even though they have a Mac choose to weigh up all smartphones rather than just go for the one with the matching logo, right?

How many times, on this forum have you heard Mac people say they will wait for version 2.0 of Apple products, yet fools are saying they're ready to jump headlong for this Zoony phone 1.0?

Fools, I said, and fools they are.

This looks great

I'd love to get a Windows 7 phone and sync to my Mac Itunes library. they're obviously much better system designs than anything else. Hopefully it represents the new direction that OS are going in general!

To be fair, it's technically a variant of Windows CE, making it version 7.0. But I agree, people who go out and buy it first usually are fools. I myself waited three months before deciding to buy an iPhone 4, and having seen the problems it had, went for a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate instead, although that phone has drawbacks of it's own as well. At least it's rugged and built to withstand everyday use. Even that phone I was hesitatn to buy due to the lack of future support, something Apple surprisingly does better than Samsung.

I guess my reasoning is that it is an interesting product, I just don't see it taking off among the mac crowd. We're a bunch of techies here, but a lot of people came to Apple due to the halo effect of the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. I don't see them bailing on what drove them to switch in the first place to go back to Microsoft, if that makes sense.

I'll admit, I'm intrigued by the phone, but very cautious about the execution of it. I don't know if Redmond can pull off the launch. They didn't even demo games on there during their event, because it would "take too long to launch during a demo." I don't see it all working together this time around. I read someone say this, "Microsoft is famous for getting things right on the third try." I think that may apply to the phone as well.

I've had a look at the HTC Trophy and it is really nice - looking forward to seeing Microsoft release a WP7 update early 2011 which fills in many of the gaps. I wonder though whether the update will move it fully over to WinCE 7.0 considering it is a hybrid today. Btw, any word on Silverlight 5.0? from what I have heard Microsoft is now pushing Silverlight as a framework for mobile devices and leaving web services to use HTML5 instead. With Microsoft and Apple getting behind HTML5 it seems that Adobe and its arrogant days are coming to an end.

As for the synchronisation software, Apple should take a hint from Microsoft and apply it to iTunes, I don't want 'everything but the kitchen sink' when it comes to media players. I don't care about 'genius' and all the other pointless crap - give me a media player that allows syncing, ripping and burning, that is all I along with many others wish for.

It's sad if you're right and such a large proportion of people bought the iPhone because of the halo/brand name. I didn't believe the hype and bought an iPod touch first, but then two years later bought the 3GS since I thought it was the best phone on the market.

Now my needs have changed and the iPad means I don't need so much technology in my phone. Other devices are competing once again.

Which version would you call Windows 7/phone? 2 or 3?

CE phones were awful. I hope Microsoft has done a lot of learning.

My statement was in regards to this being available to Macs. People have bought Macs due to the iPod/iPhone/iPad halo effect. Not buying the iPhone due to it.

I would hope they have, but even though it is a continuation of the Windows phones, it is a step in a new direction. I'm not too sure how well they will step out in this direction. Caution must be exercised, IMO
