Looks alright. But everything they showed is on iPhone too, there are xbox live apps

The XBOX Live means way more than an XBOX Live app. It's more of the integration with achievements/earning achievements, communication over XBOX Live, multiplayer turn based games, etc.

Not just checking your Gamerscore or who's online.

Meh..I'm not that impressed. I don't use an Xbox so the Xbox live integration is useless for me. I think overall I prefer iOS.

If it has incredibly obvious stuff like lockscreen info I'll definitely look into it. I'm an old timer who had all the old windows mobile devices, this is back when before smartphones existed and we used to take a windows CE device and put a sprint 1x CF card into it to hack it to be a phone, or a "smartphone" if you will.

I just still cannot believe the iphone doesn't have any lockscreen info, it's just so incredibly useful.

A lot of this would have been great about 2 years ago. Unfortunately for Microsoft, it's not two years ago. I realize interface is really personal, but I am not warming to that home screen at all, really.

At a minimum, to be a blockbuster event to me at least, tablet and iPod-touch like products would have had to launch too. At this point, unless you're somehow hugely invested into XBox Live, I don't see what WP7 has over Android and/or iOS at this point.

It's a phone with BIG buttons made for senile people.

Seriously? iPhone has 20 icons / notifications. WiMP has 6 or 7 notifications on main page.

just another iPhone knock off ... Microsoft is a few years late to the game....

My iPhone does everything I need it to do, and does it very well.

Why do people jump ship? Whether it's to Android, Blackberry or windows new phone ... Just for a different UI??

Most people do it for a change, not for practical reasons, imo.

Apple might not be scared, but they should take note.
Let's change that slightly: Apple is not scared of Windows Phone 7, nor is Google. They took note, and they are not even slightly worried.
Windows Phone 7 does not suck.
That's how high we raise the bar for products from Microsoft nowadays: Does it suck, or does it not such? iPhone haters (and probably Android haters as well) rarely go beyond "but it is not revolutionary!". Wake me up when Microsoft has a product that doesn't only not suck, but that is actually new, fresh and exciting.

They're going to sell a lot of them.
Who to? As an unproven entitity, it has to beat the iPhone according to Apple lovers, and it has to beat Android according to Android lovers. If it doesn't do either, and I can't see it, then it's history already.
The X-box integration, people liked the Zune it was just that Apple was bigger, the organization of the phone. It is a compelling offer so far.
People didn't buy the Zune because Apple was bigger? Excuse me, but if the Zune hadn't been hyped to heaven by the last remaining Microsoft fans, nobody would have ever taken _any_ notice of it. Don't compare the Zune to the iPod. Compare it to what Samsung offers, or Sony, or Creative, and it is just not up there with any of them. The only thing the Zune proved is that the name "Microsoft" doesn't sell consumer electronics except to a tiny minority.

This hands on review is at least impressive enough to warrant consideration.

I didn't get an iphone 4 yet and had been considering Android. I talked 2 friends into getting Android phones so I could try them before I buy them. They're happy, but I wouldn't be. Gingerbread might meet my expectations though. Now Windows Phone 7 (terrible name) is coming. Doesn't look as pretty as iPhone or even Android, but I like it.

DevelopersDevelopersDevelopersDevelopers develop for the iPhone, and if they don't, they develop for Android and RIM. Who would want to waste development time on the Windows Phone?

To me, its basically just another phone in the market full of phones. Another fish in the pond, so to speak.

While their Kin was designed for kids, this one seems more designed for the bigger kids. With the xbox live app, I see it more geared towards the older kids still playing games with their school buddies. A few adults play it sure, but the biggest market is the teenagers.

Other than the normal, its still just another phone. Up to the individuals choice.

Free "Find my Phone" feature on Win7 sounds better than Apple charging $99/year to use it for iPhone.

If only there was a feature like this before so others could of found their lost phones.
Didn't Bill Gates once say Microsoft was about innovation?

And the $99 per year is for MobileMe, which INCLUDES the "find my iphone" feature. Its not just 99 for that single feature alone. Please don't take out of context. ;)

Yeah but every single other feature of MobileMe you can get for free and to some degree better than MobileMe. Essentially you are paying $99 just for the find/wipe feature.

The whole "copying" thing is a non starter in my book. Companies copy others features all the time, sometimes improving on them, sometimes not. It's mighty difficult to defend that argument as I'm sure there is plenty of stuff Apple has copied, doesn't take anything away from them IMO though. It's just the nature of technology.

this looks l a great alternative to IOS and Android, fanboys may disagree but the integration looks really good. I'll have to give it a try before I can make a decision to leave IOS or not.

i understand this is an apple forum, but you gotta admit windows phone 7 is pretty nifty in one way or another. i hate to say it, but id love to have one as "another" phone. i could never give up my iphone. if anything, maybe this will push apple to work on a new layout.

i love the way it looks. i actually use that type of skin on my windows vm. like i said i loooove my iphone, but the row of icons is rather boring, imo. microsoft did a good job at atleast showing something diff, rather than being an icon in rows knockoff

Honestly watching the video about WP7 make me even more certain I made the right choice going with Apple. My first reaction to WP was yuck, but the user interface does grow on you. Still, what company other than Microsoft would talk about the 'Startup Experience'?

I have a ZuneHD and it's great that MS is innovating in the UI department (unlike say... ANdrOID?)... I do find that the ZuneHD UI tends to feel more pretty than functional at times. The Kin phones had the same problem.

I'm still going to shelve my Nexus One for an iPhone 4G, but will definitely be keeping my eye on WP7 as it evolves.

I don't know why people diss the stock theme of a phone. You can always change the color, icons, and background.

Check the Nexus One homescreen with WP7 icons.

^^ Android w/ WP7 icons.

People don't realize they CAN change the look if they don't like anything stock.

Press one button and your WP7 theme is gone. That's why it sucks. This is like those WM apps that tried to emulate the iOS user experience. It was horrible. This is horrible too.

Harsh but true. MS waited too long to do something, now they are in the same position Mac OS X was at in 01. Even IF, not saying it is, it's better, it's not soo good that it's going to make people adopt it.

Personally, I hope the new W7 phone does really well, because then it will push Apple even further improvements and usability than they are already doing.

Microsoft is the prime example which shows that sitting on your high horse and being arrogant will lead to stagnation and lack of innovation. It is sad seeing there are so many talented people working for their company who are let down by the leadership.
