Well you never answered my question as to why you install twice a year? If there is no reason, than why do you do it? Also, I was not crying at all. And I'm very capable of fixing almost any problem that should arise with my computer. Its the time that is needed to fix these problems that I do not want to deal with. A computer should just work, and for the most part OSX does just that. I've had little to no down time with my mac, whereas on windows, downtime is something you must always account for in your schedule. For most people who use their computers quite alot(and I'm not saying everyone) they are going to experience downtime with windows, and for some user, like me, thats just not acceptable.

Exactly what I was saying, to me life is too short to be my own IT guy.

what the hell kind of downtime are you talking about? i am on a windows pc more than 12 hours a day most of the time. i do graphics production and web development work. i experience no downtime at all.

My Dell desktop ran the same time frame with the same record, online from the day I got it, through four years of college and a little bit there after as well. Got it 2002, retired it 2007. WinXP with Kaspersky virus scan, and it never reported an infection/never got bogged down by malware.

You just have to be smarter with Windows to avoid infections and whatnot. The computer was used daily through 2006 with light use in 2007. Never once reformatted the HDD or re-installed WinXP, only updates and two service packs as far as OS maintenance goes.

see, look at that, you dont hear this member crying about windows, some common sense and you'll be ok.

i was messing around, testing drivers, software and other things, it was more than every 6 months (didnt think i would have to baby sit you). its been awhile since i've messed around, other than a hardware upgrade, maybe two yr ago i just leave it alone unless i change the hdd or if am bored..

am going to ignore that other clown, if your backing up it should take no time to fix whatever, like i said i've (maybe i didnt) i've had no problems (other than maybe three times and i was new to the computer world), i cannt think of one person who's not messing around and not being careful having a problem with windows, am not saying it does not happen, i have a amd 2000+ sitting around for yrs now am sure if i plugged it in it would work fine..

Once again, I was not crying. And second, I really hope your not implying that I lack common sense. Of course some people will have better experiences with windows than others. The same goes with any OS. Maybe he did different things than I have, or maybe he got lucky, or maybe it was a bit of both. Im not swearing off windows at all, and If I have a need for windows I wont complain, I'll do what I have to do and be done with it. But for now, my OS choice is OSX, and unless something drastic happens, I don't believe I'll be changing. All my post was meant to do was reiterate the fact that, for me, OSX is a superior operating system, and I kind of forgot why I had initially switched. So for the last time, I was not crying about anything, and If you have nothing productive to say, and are only going to cut down peoples opinions, than please refrain from posting.

Yeah lol the whole time i was using it I was moaning about how complicated it was compared to Mac OSX:D I was glad when I got home to my iMac:rolleyes:

Good for you...you never suffered through Windows 95/98 so I understand your viewpoint. :D I will give it to Microsoft that the jump to NT-based operating systems with XP was a major improvement. Far fewer Registry problems, and fewer blue screens of death (In fact, I've never had one on XP). I've tried Win 7, and it is certainly the best Windows yet. The Aero stuff is a bit overdone for my tastes, but you can't win 'em all.

My Dell tower is probably 4 years old now, and other than SP 3 breaking some apps, it's still clicking along fine. Maxed out the RAM a few months ago, and performance improved dramatically.

But the truth is, I'm getting ready to replace it with a new iMac, mostly due to its age. And OS X is just a far superior OS in my estimation because it's Unix. Never had a kernel panic or any crash worse than single applications on my MBP. [edit] I do have some minor quibbles with OS X...for instance I'd really like to have autofocus system-wide rather than just in Terminal and X11.

One of mine has an XP box that's about the same age as mine...takes 5 minutes to boot up. And another five to get anything running. On the flip side, that's plenty of time to go get some coffee. :D

His problem is junkware that was never removed as it should have been, and antivirus that bogs the whole thing down. He's also thinking iMac, since he was once a Mac user, back in the mid 90's.

and dells are slow as hell...

Well, I'm not to sure about that. When I did have my dell system it was pretty decent. I managed to keep that running relatively well. For the most part, if I were to buy a Windows system it would either be Dell, or a custom made computer. But, id for sure buy Dell before any other manufacturer. Of course, I can just use bootcamp if I need to:D

Nah, it really depends more on how much crapware is on the thing. Mine has none (all removed :D ), and it runs pretty fast. It's a dog compared to my Mac for big tasks (Pentium 4 @ 2.4 GHz, but it's only one core and the FSB is likely 667 MHz at best, 2 GB 333 MHz RAM; compared to my Mac which is a Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz, with a 1067 MHz FSB and 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM), but for normal web and email it works quite well.

Totally agree. And One more reason to love mac. Of course if you get a custom system, you wont have all that crapware to deal with. But if your like the majority of people who buy retail, than your in for a few hours of cleaning all that crap out. I was very pleased to just turn my macbook on when I got it, and like the commercial said, It was pretty much ready to use out of the box.

Exactly! It was so refreshing when my Mac arrived to turn it on, set up my account, and get started getting my most important files copied over right away. No hassles, and no problems.

The Dell has had two mods. The first one was to install an ATI Radeon graphics card to drive my DVI monitor (the crappy Intel integrated graphics only offered VGA at the time), and recently the upgrade to 2 GB RAM.

Since I believe you are referring to me as the clown, hate to break it to you, but 43% of PC users do not back up their data, here is the link for you, a little dated, but I would bet it is still in the same ballpark
http://money.cnn.com/2006/06/07/technology/data_loss/index.htm

So for almost half of the users out there, a backup, reformat and reinstall of windows is a multi hour ordeal.
