Seriously, though, it's good to see "smaller" countries like Canada, Norway, Austria, etc. do so well in the Winter Olympics. Most of them (Canada being a notable exception) usually don't do nearly as well in the Summer Olympics.

Not that it matters much, but the Winter Olympics were conceived by Europeans and they chose sports that they were already good at. (Of course we would do the same if given the chance.) So it's not really a matter of underdogs making good.

I know you're talking about American viewers not watching it, but could that be because it was garbage? NBC did a horrible job covering the olympics. The CBC did a much better job, and without any actual shows to watch on NBC I didn't even stop on it when I was channel surfing.
