You realize, that the post you quoted is from November 4th?

And has already been answered sufficiently (I like that word, even if redundacy is redundant here).

Exchanging .zip files with Windows machines?

I have a related question.

I have a Mac and a PC on my local network, the latter of which I'm trying to free myself.

My mom has only a PC and it is necessary that we email each other .zip files. She and I both have WinZip on the PCs.

Is there an application which will run on my Mac where she and I can exchange .zip files?

Also, I successfully created a .zip file on my PC, but when I pull it over my wireless LAN from the PC onto my Mac, I get some kind of privileges denied error and the file shows up on my Mac with 0 bytes. Any thoughts appreciated here also.

Thanks!
Bob

Two issues here. Firstly, good news on the .zip front. The zip file format is built into the Finder. Just right-click on any file or folder you want to zip and select "Compress..." from the right-click menu. You can then share that with Windows users.

On the other front I don't think the permissions are set up correctly on the Windows PC to allow the Mac to read the file for a copy.

Ok, so OSX has the capabilities to ZIP and unZIP.

The thing that I'm missing is to browse an archive without extracting.
(just like double clicking a zip in windows where it opens with winzip or 7zip for example).

It would also be great if you could add a file to a zip - without using the command line ofcourse.

Cheers!

when i try to unzip with the archive utility thing it says "unable to unarchive jayz bp3 full album.zip into jayz bp3 album" (error 1- operation not permitted)

wht does this mean??

It means you should legally buy your music.

It also means you should stop listening to rubbish like Jay Z

.exe files are "executable" files for MS Windows systems. In case you really need this file, your only chance is either to start it on another computer which runs windows, or to install windows on your mac using either bootcamp or a virtual machine…

Edit: Forget everything I just wrote… For some strange reason I didn't read on and just answered the last post on the first page of the thread…
