# 3.2-megapixel camera (up from the current 2-megapixel camera)
…
# Double the RAM and processing power
I wonder what will use the 5 MP camera then.

Specs sound good, I'm not getting my hopes up but even this is less optimistic in a way than the iPhone nano / iPhone "Pro" speculation a few months ago.

When people put out rumors of the unobtainable there is nowhere to go but down, how can Apple surprise anyone when everything but the kitchen sink is rumored to be in the next iPhone?

Like what? I'm not disagreeing with you, just wondering what you're specifically thinking?

Well 3.0 will fix some of it. Mms and proper message management like forwarding and deleting messages, voice recording. But voice recognition is still missing, TTS, and FULL unrestricted Bluetooth support. I mean I was sending contacts, photos and music to mates over Bluetooth years ago, cross platform! I would also like a front facing camera. There should also be at least a 5mp cam with a flash to match the likes of nokia and SE

I don't understand why someone would always want a glowing logo on the back. Can someone please tell me? What if you put the phone in your shirt pocket? Your pocket is going to glow all the time. I get it that it would be nice for a flash, but on all the time? Come on, talk about a waste of battery life.

The electricity used from the LED would take maybe 5 minutes of battery life from the phone, if that. It's not like running a second LCD panel or something.

I imagine, like Apple's laptops, the logo would only glow when the phone was on and being used.

Quit using your logic and reasoning skills!

i would love for al of this to come true!!! i mean the damn glowing apple logo would be really stupid, unless used as a flash for the camera.
and i doubt we will get oled for the same price. but who knows....maybe

and as far as july 17 launch date, that's awesome - my birthday is july 13!
i have managed to squeeze an iphone out of my parents the last two years so lets hope for three years running.

why apple might be hush hush about new hardware

Just a theory.

They have a huge stock of current 3G hardware they want to sell and hence this time around being very tight lipped about new hardware. Possible?

As far as the spec posted here, too tempting and i would grab it :D

I like how the guy in the article says that NO iPod has come with an FM transmitter before.... WRONG! 2nd Gen iPod Touch and I think it was the Nano have one to work with Nike+.

I see the FM transmitter as more realistic than the OLED screen, which I would love to have in the new model. Everyoen is simply assuming that "FM transmitter" means you can play your music over your car's radio via FM radio frequency.

I'm sure it would be locked to prevent that; I can see it only being used for Nike+.

*IF* most of these features and up being real, it will not be a minor update. Only adding 3G and GPS to the 2nd Gen iPhone is a MINOR update.

It was not a transmitter function but Apple has been locking out FM radio capability out of 1G Touch & First iPhone and Second iPhone if I remember correctly.

FM transmitter, in my opinion, will be locked out in similar manner due to the concern over the quality and also relationship with the third party companies. Besides if this feature is added, they are basically adding one more source of battery drain. Also A2DP(bluetooth) is better and probably better battery wise anyway so it seems unlikely to me...

I was going to say that it would be very useful as a status indicator (missed calls, email, etc) but then it occurred to me that most people probably don't set their iPhones down face-down. So nevermind. :)

I have no problem with the glowing apple as long as you can turn it off. I don't want to walk around and have a light on when I'm using the phone. I don't want people to stare at me while I'm using the phone wondering what the heck it is. If you want it for an indicator like for missed calls, texts, etc, I think the light should be in the home button. Like have that light pulse a few times for a minute or two. I think it would make more sense and actually be useful instead of a glowing "I'm better than you cause I have the new iphone, and watch me use it" apple on the back.

And FM transmission is illegal in the UK. The government owns the bandwidth and rents it to broadcasters. Using FM transmitters on your ipod is actually illegal here, like having a pirate radio station. I should imagine the UK is not the only place this applies. For this reason, they would have to keep it locked for it to be allowed on sale here.

Its not anymore for low range devices like the iTrip etc. The law changed in 2006.

I agree with you.

I've wanted the little square on the home button to glow as a status indicator since day one.

It should be a pulsing white light, just like what's on macbooks

I would take the glowing home button over the glowing apple anyday...

The glowing apple logo has already been done. If you search goolge or YouTube there is a video of it I seen it a while back I'm not to sure if it was a first gen or the 3g.

It was a first gen because the Apple logo is actually cut out of the aluminum back. On the 3G, it's some sort of foil stamped onto the plastic.

I can think of a few different ways they would implement the glowing logo.

Maybe it only lights up when the phone is ringing (as an added form of notification, or when you are actively on a call. It could also only load during power-on or when there are messages/notifications.

I really doubt they'd just blindly implement something in the least logistic way possible.
