I wouldn’t put it past Apple to slightly tweak AirPods 2 to make them incompatible with the charging case driving another round of revenue.

I feel like the updated AirPods (Gen1 + charging case) might be released some time next week if this rumor turns out to be true. AirPods are unavailable everywhere I looked and they have a shipping/pickup date of February 22-25 when ordering online.

Will I be able to turn in my last years Airpods for a credit toward the new ones at Apple store? I want the black color and anti slip coating sounds like a plus.

I might have to spring for another pair of the current AirPods if my battery degrades any further. I’m only getting 2 hours on a charge and having some connection issues. I don’t think my pair can last until September.

I can’t wait to replace my launch day AirPods. With the AirPods 2. Currently my battery case is not holding a charge like it did when it was new. Trouble connecting at times. I also would never buy white AirPods again. Black if they got them. All this and I can’t wait to give Apple $159 for another pair. Best Bluetooth headset I’ve owned.

they make wireless charging cases for the current airpods case.. they are all over amazon for under 30$. Apple has been getting beat to market by 3rd party makers.

Same for me. My AirPods are 25 months old, and they're getting long in the tooth. I can't make it through a long run without a charge, which means bringing the charging case. And the beauty of the Apple Watch + AirPods combination is supposed to be not carrying anything.

If they are less than 2 years old, and you are in the EU, they should replace them under warranty. 2 hours out of the advertised 5 hours mean that they are down to 40% of their original capacity.

If its anything like the first AirPods, you'll be lucky to get them by 2020.

You had better be up and ready to push the buy button the instant they are available. I remember last time I was leaving in Thailand and got them a couple days before the hype hit and then they were sold out for a very ling time. People will order more than one and scalp them.

As much as I hate the current Apple's current product line up and have been so disappointed with Tim's leadership, this is the one product i have been impressed with.

Honestly, I'm eager to see what improvements they have. I hope it's not rose gold or easier access for useless siri to give us horrible search results.

I hope we can expect better sound quality!

I always carry the case as I like to put them in when I’m not using them in case I loose them. However now I have to carry around a pair of the wired earbuds. Just in case they don’t charge or stop working. It’s not happened yet but it might with the way they are going.

This rumor certainly sounds more Apple-like. Release the charging case now so current Airpod owners buy it up and hold the Airpods 2 for a few months to not cannibalize charging case sales.
Even more that Apple waits as long as possible to release version 2. Would be about 2 1/2 years if in the fall.

What are the health monitoring features for the AirPod 2 supposed to be? I’ve read heart rate, which yeah I guess, but is kinda covered by the Watch. Is there a monitoring benefit, beyond deeper accuracy by combining two signals, to having two data points on this?

If I was a guesser, and I guess I am, I’d guess the health monitoring would be more related to body temperature measurements. Which could be interesting. I’d also wager on a battery constrained device like AirPods you can’t measure as much as you can via a, contextually battery rich, Watch. Therefore, my guess is it’ll just be one monitoring feature: body temps.

Will I be able to turn in my last years Airpods for a credit toward the new ones at Apple store?.

I doubt that will be an option, especially with used earbuds, I don’t see Apple accepting that for a trade-in. The Apple Watch as an example, would be completely different, simply because of the reusability factor.

I'd prefer the other way around, but it makes more sense to launch AirPower first and since AirPods are still selling like hotcakes there is no rush for version 2.

They are still missing out on AirPod sales. At least I don't think I'm the only one who never bought the gen 1 AirPods and also won't by them until the gen 2 ones come out.

It's amazing how so many people think my tws-i7 earbuds are AirPods.
Sure there's a difference in quality between an $169 AirPods and $16 earbuds but when you loose one there's a lot less agony.

My only concern is safety with something that sits in my ears and is close to my brain. I guess same could be said about airpods but I feel Apple is probably taking more safety precautions.

How do they sound?

Maybe buy them from JL for a two year warranty ? Just in case they don’t get that far.

I’d like some myself and if I decide not to wait, I’d get them from there. At least two years would be at least like £1.50 per week which isn’t so bad.

OnLeaks' Steve Hemmerstoffer today tweeted that the AirPods wireless charging case will be ready to launch sometime soon, but the actual AirPods 2 with "Hey, Siri" funtionality may be delayed to the fall.

AirPods-2.0.jpg
OnLeaks itself casts some doubt on this rumor, by stating up front that the news was gained from a "new and yet unconfirmed," but seemingly reliable source. Hemmerstoffer appears to be most certain about the wireless charging case launching soon and being shipped with the first-generation AirPods.

Most rumors about AirPods 2 have pointed toward an early 2019 launch for the new wireless earphones, so definitely take this new report with a grain of salt. Just this morning, a sketchy report from Greek tech news site iphonehellas.gr claimed the new iPads, AirPods 2, and AirPower are all set to launch on March 29. Yesterday, DigiTimes reiterated previous rumors that stated Apple will release AirPods 2 in the first half of the year.

When they do launch, OnLeaks says the AirPods 2 will come in new colors, and yesterday rumor site MySmartPrice claimed that the new headphones will come in black and white. Beyond AirPods 2 and their new "Hey, Siri" functionality, Apple is believed to already be working on the third-generation AirPods, which are rumored to have some form of water resistance.

Hemmerstoffer and OnLeaks have a previous track record of sourcing information from Apple's supply chain, as well as the supply chains of other smartphone manufacturers. For example, Hemmerstoffer shared renders of the 2018 iPad Pro with accurate depictions of the tablet's redesign one month before the device was revealed by Apple.

The idea of a charging case for AirPods is a great one. So great, in fact, that somebody's already had it. You want one of these, boogie on over to Amazon and search for "AirPods Wireless Charging Case." What will come up is this page: https://www.amazon.com/Apple-AirPods-Wireless-Charging-Case/dp/B07G8KXJXL. Cost: thirty bucks (I have one, works as advertised).

I'm not an audiophile but they sound about the same or a bit less than Apple's wired earbuds. Can hear some bass but it has limited frequency range.
Get about 1.5 hrs of continuous playtime per bud, even longer on pause. I use one at a time at work so I can listen to music while being able to hear the phone and employees. Physical button pauses music when pressed, double tap does other things. Case will charge one or two at a time several times.
Don't like when the battery is low. Blinks led on earbud like bling and audibly says low battery. Wish those could be disabled cause you can see the level on the status bar.
Dropped them and sometimes they pop open but easily snap shut. Been using them daily since December and holding up okay except for their USB cable that stopped working and had to use another cable.
I'll buy more when they wear out.
