You can use your phone while it is wireless charging. But given that it is so easy to just pick it up and then put it back down on the chargerf again I am not sure why one would need to do that unless their phone was dead.

Here is a nice double wireless charger on Amazon. Should be able to charge your AW and iphone 8

Oh ok. Great. In my case I like to put my phone to charge charge at night and listen to stuff before I go to sleep. If I can lay it on the pad and still stream stuff then that would be perfect. Thank for the info!

Wireless charging is great. You can just lay it on the mat at night or at work. Also a lot of cars have them and your car just looks cleaner without all those wires. Now if we can have a car with wifi Apple Carplay and a wireless charging mat.

why not just use it at night? as thats ideally the best time to use wireless charging

I did. All night and it charged a few % and quit. Did it three times. Phone was positioned correctly. My charger may not be working correctly. I’ll return it and get a different one. Appreciate the feedback.

Thinks issue is getting the right one. Too many cheap options around that aren't great. Get a brand name one. It might be more money but worth it.

AW uses its own proprietary charging scheme. It won’t work with Qi chargers.
You’ll have to buy apple’s charging pad when it comes out to do that.

Watching any kind of video = massively deleted battery. Also, if you like any kind of comfort whatsoever, while you’re using your phone, while it’s charging. It’s why charging with a cable will always be the better option. Wireless charging offers extremely minor convenience.

I will be buying the Apple wireless charger mat, but at least I understand the relative convenience it offers, while also understanding the massive compromises to the device it required; thickness, weight, durability.

disagree wholeheartedly.....where is the massive inconvenience? You mention a very minor use case of streaming video while charging? So why can't you do that again? I have a Samsung fast wireless charger that stands my phones up. So why couldn't I stream video while it was charging? Same thing for streaming music.

Not sure what this statement means tbh...isn't that obvious?

Wireless charging is so easy to use. Just plop your phone on the charger. You don't need two hands to remove it or attach it. Then if you charge you phone overnight....so nice to grab your phone with one hand when you are half awake to see what that last notification was.

There area ton of different wireless chargers out there. Some flat and some will stand your phone up. It is nice to have options.

Where did you get this from? I mean its ok not to like something....but don't make stuff up.

Lmfao stream video while charging while it’s sitting on a charger on a desk or the like. Priceless. Us normal humans like to sit on a couch or lay in bed.

lol.....so why ding wireless charging as a feature when you are streaming video on your couch? Why not watch video on your TV? Why not project it onto your TV from your bed or couch?
Sounds like you have a very narrow use case.

They even have wireless charging mats built into some cars SUVs and trucks consoles too.
C'mon now catch up to technology.....

Then care to back up your statement with any facts?

Oh dear god.

You actually have a sickness if you believe that wireless charging is this end all be all useful tech. It offers extremely minor convenience. That’s the reality.

The vast majority of users plug their phone in with a cable and sit comfortably where they can use their phone while it is charging. If they are not going to use their phone they’ll lay it on the wireless charger if they have one, for the extremely minor convenience that gives them. If they are going to bed they’ll do the same.

As for the compromises:

The device has to have a glass back for wireless charging (it could have plastic but no one wants that garbage). Giving it a glass back means that the device is thicker and heavier due to the nature of the material. It’s also much less durable obviously. I’m not sure why I needed to give you this information, it’s known to virtually every human being.

so....you don't have any facts. You just state your opinion as facts and hope everyone lets you off the hook for your statements.

Nice way to exaggerate everything I have said...I guess when you don't have any facts to back up your pointless statements that is all you have left :)

massive compromises to the device it required; thickness, weight, durability.

Here are some facts for you...

iphone 7 plus size and weight
(6.63 Ounces) (3.07x6.23x0.29 in.)
iphone 8 plus
(7.13 Ounces) (3.07x6.24x0.30 in.)

Wow you are so right! That is MASSIVE! I mean look at the weigh difference alone! I mean half an ounce!!! Whoa better hit the gym to make up for having to carry around that extra half ounce.
then look at the extra thickness...whoa dude........01 inch! How will people survive?

t offers extremely minor convenience. That’s the reality.

No....it offers little for YOU

lol at wireless charging being extremely minor convenience. I wonder how your adjusted to a cordless phone.o_O

Wireless will get better (and more powerful) eventually...and more accessible so this is just a start. Soon restaurants will have them, and as mentioned vehicles already have them. I think airports have them too. Not having to carry a cable all the time or worry about it getting damages eventually as they usually do is a plus to me.

If people don’t like it yet that’s fine, but to have the option is great imo. And the glass back looks great :)

Exactly! They are even building furniture with wireless charging mats built into them. Some car makers are including wireless charging mats into car/truck consoles too.
Also if some are worried about the glass back then put a case on it. wireless charging still works with a case too :)

Haha you’re actually unaware of how drastic minor differences are in a tiny device. You keep living in your little happy world of wireless inductive charging while the rest of us go about with our intelligent understanding of its minor convenience, and obvious compromises.

Ohhh I never thought of not being able to use while charging. Good point!
Actually...
I guess it depends on how you want to use it. I mean you can set it in the charger and still listen to music with wireless headphones. You can still open up Instagram, Facebook, MacRumors, etc etc and use those. It's just not in your hand while you do it. Now I'm thinking about when I'm at my desk at work/home, so my question would be "can the wireless charger keep up with consumption while I'm flicking through Instagram and listening to music?"

I usually charge overnight but use in bed before I go to sleep. With my 7 the battery wouldn’t make it all day. I’m still playing with the option of the Plus depending how much the battery actually is.

LOL...are you actually reading this thread? I think you are in the minority here bud......
Come back and play when you have actual facts.

We are showing you a TREND of mainstream adoption of wireless features. You have your head stuck in the sand.....

I said I’ll be getting the Apple wireless charging mat. It offers minor convenience but I’m still going to get it. I have to get the Apple one because every other one looks so bad it’s groundbreaking. Unfortunately Apple’s doesn’t come out until probably spring 2018. Your mistake is thinking I’m bashing inductive charging and saying it’s absolutely worthless, it’s not...it’s just very minorly convenient

The iPhones support two different forms of wireless charging. One IS Qi charging and the other is a longer range wireless charging as well. You guys act as if wireless charging is new because Apple finally adopted a standard that's been around for years. Seriously guys....don't get an elcheapo mat and you won't have any problems with charging times. You'll still be able to use it while charging. Make sure it has at least three charging coils and it'll charge fast as well. Some of the cheap ones only have one coil and that leads to very slow charging times and that leads to the problem some of you are talking about, long charging times and having a hard time with positioning.

riiiiight.......now the contradiction starts....

You are so correct....yuor not bashing wireless charging at all....

EXTREMELY MINOR CONVENIENCE! yet one that you will wait for the Apple wireless charger for months just to have it....
Wireless charging offers extremely minor convenience.

You over exaggerate and contradict yourself so many times it comical now.

To me, wireless charging makes a lot of sense for places where you’re likely to pick up and put down your phone a lot, like at my desk at work.

At my nightstand, though, it’s a bit of a waste of money. I put my phone down exactly once at night and then pick it up exactly once in the morning. Not really an area where I’m desperate for added convenience.

For me, it's a cool idea that comes with too many tradeoffs. The primary one being that I can only use a certain number of cases with it. I typically use a wallet case so I don't have an extra thing to lose. But all wallet cases won't work with the chargers, or so I've heard. Yes, most people don't use wallet cases, but most people use cases that are too thick regardless. Hopefully wireless charging tech will continue to improve so this is possible.

Now, combine that tradeoff with the fact that it isn't really necessary in many situations. iPhone 8 Plus battery life continues to be good enough for a full 24 hours (for my medium-to-heavy usage). I have the USB-C fast charger at work since I use an iPad Pro there. So my phone is typically tethered to the wall for the first hour of the day while I catch up on emails, and then I'm good to go until the next day. And it's not a huge inconvenience to use my phone while it is plugged in.

In short, wireless charging is really cool and could be useful for some people, but I don't think the technology is going to shift the landscape dramatically at this time. Now once wireless charging/Carplay is the norm, that might change. Although, by the time that happens (if it ever will), we'll probably be using self-driving spacecraft.

Samsung included a free wireless charger when I ordered my Galaxy S6...way back in 2015.

Also works with my iPhone 8+ In 2017.
