I’m looking forward to it, given that I charge my phone at night on my bedside cabinet. Setting it and forgetting it is definitely convenient for me, especially when the room is dark.

I for one love wireless charging. With the note 8 it's fast charging just like wired. I have the convertible one from Samsung and it works as a stand. I find the convenience to be worth it. And guess what if you hate it than don't use it. If the extra weight really is a deal breaker than the iPhone 7 is still a good phone.

To me, wireless charging makes a lot of sense for places where you’re likely to pick up and put down your phone a lot, like at my desk at work.

At my nightstand, though, it’s a bit of a waste of money. I put my phone down exactly once at night and then pick it up exactly once in the morning. Not really an area where I’m desperate for added convenience.

I agree, a lot of people use the example of not having to fumble with cords when going to bed in the dark, but isn’t that what the flashlight on the phone is for? And since you can adjust the level of the light in iOS 10/11, you can set it low so as not to disturb any partners who may already be asleep.

To me the more convenient places for them are desks, using the kind of chargers that prop the phone up instead of laying flat. I would say I am excited more for wireless charging outside the home, like restaurants and airports, where I can charge my phone without having to carry around a cable and the added security of charging without also creating a possible data connection like USB does.

riiiiight.......now the contradiction starts....

You are so correct....yuor not bashing wireless charging at all....
Funny how when confronted with facts you start to change your tune....

EXTREMELY MINOR CONVENIENCE! yet one that you will wait for the Apple wireless charger for months just to have it....

You over exaggerate and contradict yourself so many times it comical now.
Lmao you really should look up the term ‘contradict’. You don’t know what it means.

Im intelligent enough to know the compromising resultant necessities for bringing wireless charging to the device, and intelligent enough to know that it offers only minor convenience. I can’t help those who think otherwise.

Moreover, I’m only cementing the fact that it only offers extremely minor convenience specifically because I’m willing to wait many months for the Apple wireless charging mat. You really need to rethink your ideas here. If I thought it was highly useful I would obviously not wait for the charger....common sense....

Depends on how light a sleeper your other half is!

While I'm mainly excited about wireless making it easy to charge while out, you have no idea how many times I launched my 6 off my bedside table while plugged in. I gradually damaged the lightning port as a result. Having the Anker charger there instead is great.

The iPhones support two different forms of wireless charging. One IS Qi charging and the other is a longer range wireless charging as well. You guys act as if wireless charging is new because Apple finally adopted a standard that's been around for years. Seriously guys....don't get an elcheapo mat and you won't have any problems with charging times. You'll still be able to use it while charging. Make sure it has at least three charging coils and it'll charge fast as well. Some of the cheap ones only have one cool and that leads to very slow charging times and that leads to the problem some of you are talking about, long charging times and having a hard time with positioning.
Got a lead on some good user reviews?

So the charger I found on Amazon is ok, charges at a rate of 1% per min with Bluetooth and WiFi on. Not too impressive, but depends on the charger. I am sure others are better, I ordered another brand for my office so will see how that does next week.

I know samsung makes one, but I feel weird using it on an apple product lol. Might try Belkin next.

I got an Aukey wireless charger from Amazon for like $10. Its nice if you have no where to be and you don't care if your phone takes 4 hours to charge, but other than that I don't see the point. It took 15 minutes to go from 88->89% yesterday. While, my 12W iPad charger went from 89%->94% in 15 minutes. (I had the wireless charger plugged into the 12W brick as well).

Its just too slow and the convenience factor does not make up for the 2 seconds of plugging it in.

I did. All night and it charged a few % and quit. Did it three times. Phone was positioned correctly. My charger may not be working correctly. I’ll return it and get a different one. Appreciate the feedback.

My Belkin brought my 8+ from 70% to 100% in less than 90 minutes, which consider darn good. Something must be wrong with yours. I think it is pretty fast even though I sleep while charging.

Damn I bought the same one

Use it and enjoy.

I hope you are returning that charger...15 mins to go 1% is ridiclous. Pay for what you get sometimes...decent ones are $20+.

Well its normally $20, but there was a promo that if you buy other auk accessories as well you get 50% off the charger. I'm hoping AirPower will be a faster charger and will see what thats like when it comes out. Even if it charges 3% in 15 minutes, lightning is still faster and more convenient. I have never seen the value of wireless charging. I have docks around the house and I just dock my phone to the lightning cable. Takes just as much time as placing it on a mat.

That's the problem. Don't cheap out on a wireless charging mat. Now since I don't own an iPhone 8 and currently a Note 8 and based on my old experience with the Note 4 I can say don't cheap out. Buying a Samsung one might be overkill since I don't believe the fast charging mats will help iPhones but I would probably say it's a safe bet but the belkin one I saw at bestbuy that said it was built for iPhone or whatever will probably be fine.

The wireless charging with the Note 8 is quite fast as wired fast charging but with the Note 4 it was slower.

Thanks for the information. But those high quality ones are still going to be slower than good old fashion lightning, and with me having a 29W brick with my MBA, I can utilize faster charger than just a 12W brick. I'm waiting for the wireless charging of the future, truly wireless. Current wireless charging just seems gimmicky to me.

I'm looking forward to using wireless charging in the car while using the Aux input for the car stereo.
I'm currently using the 3.5mm input with a lightning to 3.5mm adapter but I can't charge it at the same time.

Yes, there's a USB input option but for reasons I'd rather not get into, I don't like it.

This will let me charge it with wireless while listening to the audio output.

Meh not really gimmicky IMHO. Apparently with the iPhone it's not as fast as Samsung which as fast as wired imho. I like that I can just place it on a mat and take it off and back without messing with any wires.

And I can do the same exact thing with my lightning docks throughout the house. I put it on the dock and done, no wires to mess with.

The problem is your inserting the phone into something... Meh for me the idea of just laying it on a mat when I'm half asleep is worth it for me. Do note wireless charging with a S8 or Note 8 is just as fast as wired so I don't lose much in terms of speed. With an iPhone Idk might use it or probably choose a wire.

Decided to try another charger...found a good deal on this Samsung Convertible fast charge pad/stand. Very nice design, and comes with a USB-C cable and adapter. So far better charging than the previous model I had.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good Qi Charging cradle for the car?

I'm already using Bluetooth for audio... so not needing a charging cable would make me extra happy! :)
