I bought this model from an Apple Store in Soho. I'm going to the UWS one because it's nearer to my school. The Apple Stores in NYC have this model listed on the MBP config paper, and theyre on display at the stores.
Is there ANY chance that they will replace it on the spot? Or would they repair this one?
I think I narrowed down what scratched it. It was most likely the metal incline between the keyboard and trackpad. I looked at that metal edge and there was a material on it which was most likely my anti glare coating. grrr....

Thats cool, here in Louisville, our Apple store does not carry those models. I seriously doubt they would do it on the spot especially because just replacing the display will not fix the problem, there is something wrong with the keyboard/trackpad area.

Worried about my one on order now... Is this a common thing? My old 2007 mbp doesn't have this problem, buts it's a lot less sharp than the unibody....

Do not worry, I have a 17" antiglare MacBook Pro (mid 2010) and have not seen this problem, though if you do plan on using a keyboard cover, I'd recommend something like this

Enjoy your MacBook Pro!

Im curious as to what they are going to say/do. Hopefully it all works out. Good luck and remember my previous post :D

Yeah me too! I noticed that in the top center of the trackpad you can feel more metal sticking up... they better replace it, I paid lot's of money for this machine...
Ill keep it in Mind.

When I first bought my MBP it had a scratch on the aluminum. I took it back within the 14 day return policy and they replaced it free of charge. Just let them know that you just noticed the scratch. The scratch might have been an manufacturing error. These machines are mass produced so it is easy to over look a flaw as subtle as that. Hurry and take it back!

A good way to tell would be to run a straight edge, preferrably plastic, from side to side, and front to back on the top plate to see if any keys, or metal edges are protruding upwards.

Thanks for the link. looking at buying one for sure. anybody use one and can vouch for how good it is?

says the initial cleaning fluid is alcohol but swear i've read not to use alcohol based fluids for cleaning AG screens...

I've got the appointment at 3:15 today. Are there any other incidences or this reported? The scratch is pretty much perfectly straight across the screen.

Just got back from the Apple Store. I got a friendly genius, who saw that I had taken good care of it with it's Speck Case, and that I had purchased it 4 days ago. He gladly gave me a new machine in store with no fuss. I'm typing from this Machine which appears to be a slightly different build quality, and by that I mean that it's a better more smoother build quality. The Hinges (common problem, that they're loose) are smooth and don't appear to differ from the last ones. The center elevation in the trackpad is leveled. It seems I had gotten a defective machine. The genius said he had seen this issue before and said that it usually happens when pressure is applied and that they "fixed it in later builds", which confused me because my MacBook Pro was the latest...

Well Happy Ending. I'm sure to keep the little styrofoam insert in it.

That's awesome! Glad it all worked out.

Well that's just great, my replacement MacBook pro has a very noticeable purple dead pixel. What do I do now?

According to the pixel policy, one pixel is not enough for a replacement. You could always give it a shot though, or return it if your within that time period and repurchase. Best of luck!

I'm gonna give it a shot. This is pretty unacceptable... It's a bright purple color too...

Exchange it. I went through a big hassle involving two exchanges when purchasing a new MBP recently. The Geniuses are usually pretty good about exchanging, especially if it's a recent purchase. If they're unable to help you out, send an email to the store and more than likely a manager will get in touch with you to see about fixing your problem. That's what I had to do, and despite the frustration, everyone I dealt with was very friendly and willing to help.

You can even ask to open and inspect a new machine before you leave the store just to make sure everything looks good.

This. Cannot. be. happening.
The HD clunks like a 10 year old Maxtor. This is just getting ridiculous. wow.
