I emailed a few "high ups" at Apple. Calmly explaining my issue. Who do you guys recommend I email? What's the policy that Apple has for this? After how many replacements do they do something different? At this moment I am in doubt there is a 2.8Ghz i7 Anti-Glare that WORKS out there...

What can they do differently? You have been given two new machines with zero hassle. The only thing they could do differently is give you a different machine than the one you bought. He'll, you scratched your screen by putting too much pressure on the lid, and they still gave you a new one no hassle. Try that with any other company.

This. Cannot. be. happening.
The HD clunks like a 10 year old Maxtor. This is just getting ridiculous. wow.
What's a manufacturer of your particular HDD? I had WD blue 500gb and 640gb, both were clicking pretty loudly. Actually, it's normal for some HDD models and I wouldn't exchange a notebook because of that.

Anyway, I can't see myself using such expensive MBP with crappy stock HDD. I would rather go with proper 7200rpm (like 500Gb Momentus XT) for speed or 5400rpm (like 1Tb WD) for storage if high performance SSD is out of budget.

Yes I know I can buy a new drive but I PAID for the 500GB Drive which SHOULD work in this computer. Do you expect to purchase a 3000$ computer and go out take it apart(which I do not want to do) and install a new HD? This computer should work perfectly.

The HD is the Hitachi HS5xx... something I don't remember.

Anyways, I talked to an Senior Advisor At Apple, 4 ranks above the first rank in phone service and he's arranging something with the SoHo Apple store so that they check the computer for defects before they give it to me.

What's wrong with clicking? It's normal for some HDDs. If your particular MBP uses HDD that parks heads with louder clicking sound then it's not malfunction. It's silly to exchange otherwise perfect laptop only because you don't like feature of its preinstalled HDD. Why? Because it's a major bottleneck and deserves nothing but a replacement with a fast one.

As for me, I don't expect to purchase a 3000$ computer without putting at least 240Gb Sandforce SSD inside.

No it's not normal behavior because the device stalls and gives me the rainbow Apple.

Well I just don't have that kind of money, the only SSD I own is a 64GB Patriot one. I saved just moved enough for this computer and the apple care. You're very lucky you can buy that.

After a 2 Hour phone call with Apple Support this is what I receive
"Hello,

I spoke to a Manager today and they said all you have to do is come in with the Macbook Pro and ask for a manager and explain that you want to checkout the machine before leaving the store.
"

1. He did not make any attempts to call me, he told he would call me last night, and I had to email this guy first.
2. This is what I have been doing for the past week.
3. I am being dismissed and this is not what i expect from Apple.
I sent a "nice" reply email back to this.

I am currently on my 5th 15" i7 glossy replacement since first ordering the computer on September 21, 2010. The issues have ranged from them arriving with dents and dead pixels. I finally have a 15" i7 2.8 glossy that is aesthetically acceptable, but suffers from kernel panics and the constant random blue screen logout issue, which is unbelievably annoying. Needless to say, I feel for you and wonder if Apple can truly deliver a fully-functioning new BTO MacBook Pro.

The clunking could be the motion sensor of the HD trying to park it or could be the power-managment.

If it happens even if you don't move the MBP even slightly then try: http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm/

If that doesn't help then have it checked.

Finally I find someone with an issue like me! If you can, contact me via email. We can talk and see what works. My friend has a 15" 2.66 which is constantly KPing. This generation of Macbook Pros are VERY flawed. I've had a Late 2008 15" 2.8C2D and I can surely say that was the WORST computer I have ever owned. This new one is a close second.

Jackapple, contact me please.

It is NOT an SMS issue.

I have not received a reply to my email and I feel like im being dismissed and will not get a fix for my issue. I can't wait until the new MacBook Pros come out so that I can get a replacement of one of those...

If that's really a defect, then good luck. I hope you'll get a problem free machine. You may ask about discount as well.

they offered me a free case with the repair of my computer because i made a "fuss" about not having a computer to use for two weeks in a row.

What's the difference between the first machine's hinge and the second machine's hinge? Don't all MacBook Pros use the same hinge?

Not at all. Go to the Apple store, and compare the MacBook Pro Hinges. The late 2008 ones were REALLY bad, but these are better. Some of them are worse than others. Go into your local Apple store and compare the hinges. You'll see they're different. MBP #2 had hinges similar to the new MacBook Air.

Its all manufacturing tolerances. A minuscule amount of difference will make a big difference in how tight the hinge is. Yes, the late 2008 hinge is pretty bad. Its always nice having the laptop close itself while you are using it

So I returned it. It's gone. I'm now typing from a low end MacBook Air 11.6".

As I was returning it I received a call from Apple Corporate and they are going to call me at 1 Tomorrow to discuss the issue at length. Hopefully I can get some compensation or reward for my long issue. I got the MacBook Pro returned without Restocking fee. I'm pretty satisfied for now, until a new MacBook Pro comes out and then I'll sell the air and buy the new MBP. This story is coming to an end tomorrow.
