i have a pair of sony sport earbuds that i use on the bike.... so far so good.... although i did have a different style of sony's that may have started acting up due to sweat????? i do make sure to buy cheaper earbuds for that purpose since i do seem to have to replace them more often (and i use them with the little clip on shuffle...)

Hmmm.. this worries me... I think I'll use an older pair of ear buds for work out so that I don't ruin my good ones

All the people saying not to work out with the iPhone are nuts in my opinion. I go to the gym 3 hours a day 6 days a week and the real appeal of the iPhone for me was to not have to worry about leaving my phone in a locker while I am working out; now I can take a call if I have to. The real point of the iPhone was to consolodate devices, so wouldnt getting a shuffle just crap on that idea? As far as the moisture goes i suggest these http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=DB77FAB5&nplm=TN543LL/A They sound great, do not move AT ALL while running, and water has gotten directly on them and they still work fine.

All of the people saying to work out with the iPhone are nuts in my opinion. When I go to the gym my phone stays switched off. I am there to work out, not to hold conference calls. If a call is important, the caller will call again later. If it isn't, then I have missed nothing.

There are few sights sadder than seeing somebody in the middle of the gym talking excitedly into his phone, gesticulating wildly, oblivious of everything and everyone else and just plain getting in the way.

Same problem as OP here! I went through set after set and finally gave up and bought some Nike waterproof headphone but they suck and don't have the volume button/mic/next song button.

Sony recently released a new line of earbuds with the inline button/mic thing and I bought them for $40 and they have held up through about 4 months in Iraq while working out. The only thing is I lost the ability to adjust the volume with the inline button but other than that the ability to switch songs is still there and thats all that matters to me.

So basically, apple forgot about the people who sweat lots, because now I'm on my third set of headphones! I work out evryday with my headphones and the sweat gets on the clicker/mic and all the sudden, I can't even skip songs or stop the music. After a while the songs will stop plying and skipping randomly and it's so annoying. I decided to put a small piece of tape over it so that sweat doesn't get inside the mic. I hate the fact that I had to go to the apple store and change them 2 times. Anyone else having that problem?
Happened to my shuffle headphones too, it's like they have a mind of their own lol but I'd never bring my iPhone the gym to risky. And my shuffle is dead , so I'm back to a 1st gen nano for the gym :D

How about the motorola stereo Bluetooth headset? That's waterproof and if what devs are saying about ios 4.1, it'll support the control buttons to skip songs and receive phone calls.

Sweat and iPhone microphone

I have an iPhone 3GS that i workout with. I use budfits to keep the buds in my ear. Because of this the microphone in the head set is further up and comes in contact with my sweaty head. When this happens iTunes stops momentarily or skip to the next song. It's annoying. Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, just about everyone in this thread has. :p Get your free replacements from Apple.

I have same problem with standard earplugs that comes with the iPhone 5 (4 as well). I'm a runner and I sweat a lot since the I can run a marathon 4 hours. The point is I've gone through 3 earplugs as well. My ear plug is actually not working now and I'm going to drop by the apple store to see if they can swap it for me.

Are they what Apple calls Ear Pods? I ask because they are supposed to have greater protection from sweat and moisture as compared to the previous model.

Yes, it is the iPhone ear pods. It is the mic/volume control is screws up. The salt from the sweat really does a job on it.
