That penalty kick in the last minute by Greece just turned the tables completely. Now:
Uruguay vs Colombia
Greece vs Costa Rica

well at least one thing is sure now: a south american team will be in the semi final:
the winner from Brazil vs Chile will meet the winner from Uruguay vs colombia in the quarter final.

;)

Ivory Coast only have themselves to blame. So many chances to bury the game but their forwards think they’re all Ronaldo/Messi

Also Kalou continues to maintain his reputation as one of the worst forwards i've ever seen in my book.

Only Brazil's Fred makes him look better. But then again Brazil's Fred makes Sunday League forwards look like Messi.

I can't believe Italy lost to Uruguay - well maybe I can. Luis Suarez is back to his cannibalizing ways. Regardless, Italy was horrible this tournament. Prandelli did the right thing by stepping down, he was massively out-coached every game.

The penalty shot given to Samaras was weak, but that's the level of officiating we are seeing at this tourney. I didn't like Ivory Coast taking out Gervinho at the end, he was one of their best players. Ten more minutes to seal the deal.

Suarez

World Cup 2014 Brazil

No one watching Nigeria vs. Argentina? A lot expect Nigeria to win. 3:2 so far for Argentina.

World Cup 2014 Brazil

Why would people expect Nigeria to win?

They say they're playing really well. A lot of counterattacks and they've also missed a couple of good chances to score. But the game just ended. Argentina won by one goal.

I'm really looking forward to tonight's games. At least on paper all teams can still make the next round. Hoping for a tie in the Germany vs USA game.

Twas a very gd game and the Nigeria striker looked a man on a mission. Argentina fortunate and prove that they don't have a chance of winning the tournament.

Yes I don't think Argentina will be one of the teams fighting for the Cup in the final round.

Well, they have some kind of Messiah, so never say never.

Wondering too about who'd think Nigeria would most likely beat them. But whatever.

just in:
suarez was suspended for 9 international games, starting immediately, and 4 months of any FIFA-related activity, including club games.
he will be back to football in october, thus missing both premier league and champions league games.
apparently the block extends to administrative aspects, so liverpool may not be able to sell him. he can't even get into any stadiums in this four months. not sure if it implies he will have to forego summer training with the team as well.

To be fair, imo, it's really not that different than punching someone in the face when adrenaline's rushing, or a kick with spikes up front (and fully intending to hurt on purpose while I'd argue that those metal spikes used at times surely hurt much more than biting too). It's just the uncivilized appearence that makes this accident(s) stand out more.

Not saying the punishment isn't justified - not at all! - but when following football on a regular basis you see lots of more severe injuries that happened on purpose without minimal if any consequences - so this is more Fifa show, as usual, than anything in my opinion.

some already did some math and figured out that those 4 months mean 9 PL, 3 Cl and 2 Cup games for liverpool. Club sure are going to be pissed with him.

with the 9 international games very likely means missing games at the copa as well, since friendlies don't count.

I read a quote from him after his last 'incident' where he said he laid awake at night wondering what his kids would think of him. I wonder how well he will sleep in the next four months now that his kids are older?

It is humiliating. He behaved in a surprisingly childish way. I bet none of his kids go around biting other kids.

while agree that other behavior can be technically more dangerous, i do think this goes well beyond the pale of what can be tolerated.
it IS more uncivilized than -for example- fist fight (for example), and it can only be framed as an action aimed at hurting an adversary, while some other behaviors can be a little more subtle and/or disguised as game incidents.

besides, if someone were to walk to another player and straight punch them in the face (and this being their THIRD time something like that occurred) i believe you would see some equally harsh punishment.

i think a clean 1 year ban from all activities would have been fair.
one full season to go to a therapist and get treatment.
