Streaming the game down onto the phone... sounds a lot like OnLive, if it works as well. In which case, I'm totally for it.

am i the only one who noticed he got an alliance character on the same realm as his hordes?

this could all be a sad joke :D notice the lags and how unnatural it feels, maybe it's a pre-recorded video. And the game actually feels like being played on a windows pocket pc rather than taking the full capability of the iphone.

yea, obviously this isnt meant to be a replacement for your laptop.... there is no way this thing could handle a raid.... it would probably struggle to handle you vs 1 creep. the purpose would be checking the AH, doing trades, and other small things on the go..... definitely not any combat

In the real world we're going to have a bunch of iPhone and iPod Touch users playing this crack-like game walking out in public like zombies. They'll not look where they're walking and cause mass havoc and carnage. Congress will have to pass a law banning the wandering around with an Apple device while playing Warcraft. ;)

I don't think there is anyway that could be faked. I hope thats submitted to the App Store sometime soon. I have never played WOW but that looks really cool :D

yeah but who cares about WoW. this just shows millions of possibilities.

I think you have a point. This is a lot bigger than being just about "a" game. If this is true, I think Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have something to worry about in terms of mobile online gaming. With a mobile network, this truely cuts the PC/Console tether (sp?) to online gaming.

Makes me glad I bought Apple stock $67

You can't really play the game like that though. I used to play w0w a lot and between a 5 button mouse and full size keyboard, both my hands were pretty busy the entire time, especially at higher levels. Although this is cool and a good display of capability, it's pretty useless in the end, IMO. If I were to play again, I wouldn't be able to handle that. I had many, many hotkeys and between the lack of functional controls and screen resolution, I used to play on a 40" 1920x1080p screen, I wouldn't be able to keep sanity.

That has got to be the greatest idea I have ever heard. Honestly, being totally serious, and if it is cheap, this may actually draw me into gaming again. I used to LOVE gaming (certain games anyway) and if this company does a good job and gets all the good games, there'll be a high chance I will sign up and start gaming again.

I would imagine you'd need one helluva server, though....

The whole streaming idea is just terrible. It looks good in "theory" but it's totally lame in use. I should know I work for one of the mentioned companies ;-)

It sucks in reality, it's just a video playing in the middle of your screen.

What the WoW makers should have done, was stopped being so freaking lazy and actually used the OpenGL that's included to write world of warcraft for the iphone. It would have been extremely fast. WoW is a very old game, and would have easily ran 3D on the iphone's GPU.

Cool stuff. Might be worth a spin, even though I've managed to avoid WoW up to now!

I can't get the video to work - has it been taken down?

NO NO NO NO!!!!
WOW is getting too powerful. It is soon going to be able to control the world through subliminal messages. Sorry, I once wasted two years of my life on mmorpg, and hate these games to the maximum. Stupid. Good news for WOW players though, this would be an awesome advancement in iPhone gaming!

Exactly like me. I have spent way too much time to play wow and now it could be available on my lovely iPhone again:rolleyes:. That would tempt me to go back to it again.
Seriously as someone said, I dont see 5, 10 man raids because you can see even now that iPhone hardware is to weak to deal with it. And what about UI (user interface); it need to be really bigger and more accessible than now or forget about BG's (battle grounds) etc.
What they could do to bring more UI buttons on is of course enable game macro's or make big accesable buttons based on opacity so they could be visable with 30% or make them dissapear all together and play once you remember where they are (thats how hard core players play wow these days anyway:D).
But concept is great.

I can't even believe how long I will be able to play. On a battery for my MBP 2.8GHz, I get maybe 40 minutes of play. My touch will be shot in 5 minutes I bet.

No offence but your battery is screwed quite badly then... I get 1.5 - 2 hours when playing cod 4...

i havent been able to watch the video as it says its private or something... annoying. but you can have a alliance and horde charecter on the same server as long as its not PvP i think, or only RPG server i cant remember, but i remember having done it once ages ago.

On normal rule set servers, players are currently able to roll Horde AND Alliance on the same server if they choose to do so. You can't speak directly to, mail, or have direct commerce with the opposing faction. You can't directly move assets from your Alliance toon to a Horde character you've rolled on the same server. As for combat, unless it's a PvP rule-set realm, basically, the only time you are able to attack or be attacked is if you're dueling, or your PvP "flag" is on (manually switching it, automatically switching it when you attack certain NPC's, attacking a flagged player, or entering a battle ground or arena).

There's going to be some lag ... no doubt about that. As for it being unnatural? I don't think it would be practical to adventure with any of my toons on the iPhone client. Many characters have more complicated attack strategies than mashing one or two icon buttons. Further, healers, for example require the ability to observe their party's health - making their need for a bigger, more complex UI more vital.

This said, now crafting and auction house watching / searching ... that would be something useful to do between classes, or at the airport, wouldn't it?

It's very simple...Vollee's technology must have been considered as a source for copyright infringement, as they are capturing the video from a proprietary game, streaming it on another software platform and profiting themselves from that. Although it definitely looks interesting, the big gaming companies must have either:

1) bought Vollee to use the technology themselves;

2) sent a cease and desist notice to Vollee.

Yeah, now you won't eve have to be at home to play.

That's incredible. I don't play any big games (I like the Copter free - 12k score here :D) but it's amazing that they were able to get an online mmo running on a phone.

The iPhone isn't really that far a cry from a mini tablet/netbook when it's hacked up and loaded with apps..

WoW is like enjoying a Mars bar each week when compared to the heroin that is Eve Online. worryingly, WoW isn't best suited to running on such a small screen, the big battles just won't work very well when you don't have the pixels to show what's going on.
whereas something like Eve, where combat is only one of the many things that occupy your time, that would be the MMO that'd work perfectly on the iPhone
