Oppo has confirmed a February 20 global launch for its Find N5, which the company claims is the world's thinnest device in the foldable phone category. The phone is expected to be re-branded as the OnePlus Open 2 in the US.

The Chinese vendor has been teasing the device in the last few weeks, touting its waterproofing and nearly invisible display crease, and highlighting its thinness by comparing it to Apple devices like the iPad Pro, which is Apple's thinnest device to date.

Oppo has shared a trailer of the Find N5, calling it "Slim, yet powerful." Reports suggest the Find N5 is around 4mm thick. That beats the Honor Magic V3, which up until now was considered the thinnest foldable, which is 4.35mm thick when unfolded.

The video also reveals some additional features, including a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, an alert slider, and a cut-down camera bump. The ad shows the device in Cosmic Black and Misty White colors, but not the Twilight Purple color that is expected to be exclusive to the Chinese market.

The smartphone market is currently fascinated with thinness. Samsung recently teased its super-thin Galaxy S25 Edge, following reports that Apple is planning to launch a so-called iPhone 17 Air in September. The rumored device, which will replace the Plus model in its flagship lineup, is expected to be Apple's thinnest iPhone to date.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the iPhone 17 Air will be 5.5mm thick at its thinnest point, which likely means that it will have a 5.5mm chassis with a thicker rear camera bump area.

The thinnest iPhone we've seen so far was the iPhone 6, which measured in at 6.9mm. iPhones got thicker with the iPhone X and beyond, as Apple increased thickness to provide more space for the battery, camera lenses, Face ID hardware, and more.

Are you sure about that?

The promo carefully avoids seeing the front of it. I would assume because they are hiding something
It's an update of the N3 which has one. The chances of it not having a front screen are non-existent. GsmArena shows clear pics of it with a front screen.

More likely the ad focuses on the key selling points (thin, huge inner screen, etc).

iPhone user and iOS fan since 2007.

In 2024 things changed a lot and iOS lost it's smoothness and became an overloaded, laggy OS with destroyed Photo app etc. while Android 15 became an ultra fast and clean OS.

No innovation for iPhone hardware and the huge size as well as heavy weight made me move to Android flip phone until Apple will catch up with the incredible technology coming from Asia.
60HZ and no mini or foldable phone is just sad.

I'm definitely not in the market for one, but I'll make sure to check this out for curiosity's sake. I'll always be intrigued by advancements in technology, whether it has personal value or not.

4mm, meaning even when folded it is still thinner than iPhone Pro!

They will now need to ditch the USB-C!

I’m not in a rush for a foldable iPhone. Maybe when it’s here I will want one. Those of you with foldables, how do you like them?

Regarding this article’s mention of the smartphone industry seems to be preoccupied with thinness. Thin is cool but I’d rather have an extra couple millimeters and better battery life. Otherwise I’ll be attaching a MagSafe battery to the phone, defeating the benefits of thinness.

Peace, everyone.

Wondering if Johnny Ive found a job in Oppo 😎
Oppo was always just as quality focused as Apple given their past premium audio line they abandoned for maximum phone production. I still have several of those state of the art devices, and years later they command unusual high values. Now other than thickness the differences that Oppo is going with are different directions of appealing to more distinct customers which is going to sell more phones against design, The timing of both launches is not a coincidence. ;)
