Your in college, you were rich, now POORER. Your NOT poor, you may think your poor, your NOT living on the streets, you own a "Blackbook intel core duo 2.0 ghz/2gb/80gb".

You want to take disability money and buy a new laptop, if I was your father, I would put you out of MY misery. Get a job, save up, don't use your father's disability money, even if he gives it to you. If he gives it to you, I can see where your mentality comes from, and where the problems spring from.

I sound rude, for a reason. Apparently no one has ever shown you real life yet. You have not lived in reality by what you just posted. Owning a Blackbook, ANY blackbook, and saying your poor, is NOT reality.

look dude, I do not want to be rude anything, because even with your selfishness, you're still a human, you just need major help in getting your priorities straight.

But honestly man, this just made me not want to be an apple addict anymore.

I know us Mac Fanboys are a strong pact and have a strong devotion, but this really made me reconsider my love for apple.

I personally have suffered from this apple addiction to a big extent.

My average in school has Plummeted ever since I became interested in Macs. I struggle to get on honour roll. I ended up with a mark in the 60's for the first time, because I stopped doing my Math homework, and I got a 70 (terrible for me) in Science, both were two subjects that I was good at, and all because I would be obsessing over getting a mac, or just reading about them. I am starting to lose my wild personality and am becoming shy because I'm on the computer and Mac Forums all the time. I put every cent I save/earn into apple products and accessories, my friends and siblings think I ACTUALLY need some serious help. I knew it was becoming bad when people I BARELY knew at school would call me MacMan. I've been asked 9394934 times to edit video's for people. My teachers have even made fun of me:eek:, I once was used as an example in History for the stock market depression in the 1930s. The teacher said that I would have a day of mourning if my Apple stock prices were to drop like stock prices did during the Great Depression. My Comm Tech teacher has even told supply teachers that I was in-charge of helping people in my Comm Tech(We have iMacs) with their problems while he was away.
I used to be that CRAZY INSANE Well-Rounded kid, but that's all starting to fade because of this addiction.
It's insane, and I seriously need to whine myself off of apple and so do you!

You have priorities, and a New MacBook is not one of them.

Straighten up, or you might end up losing something that's much better than any Mac or Apple Product, Family.

Wow...if I was in your situation, I would drop this bad habit and focus on your family's situation. I don't mean to be rude, but your obsessive rant has inclined me to say so.

Sorry, don't take it personal =)

Sure when you first buy the laptop it will be fast, but soon it wont be. So be happy with what you have now, if it works just fine why get rid of it.

save up your money, in 10 years will you really be happy looking back? if so, then buy.

Also, there are people out there way worse off than you. I go to school with people who have to use the schools computer lab because they dont even have their own computer, how would you live if you were in their situation? Life isnt just about the things you want.

If your still able to function and live life normally, then your addiction is fine. but if it interferes with other stuff, maybe its outta hand? I think we all can attest to spending hours reading forums and getting information, its our interest and we want to know more. If you enjoy it, then theres not much negative about it.

Sorry to be all psychological and analytical but I think alot of you posters need to lay off the poster a bit. Obviously the poster realizes the situation of his family. Now whether it is right or wrong for him to buy the mac is really his decision in and of itself. To me it sounds like you may be spending the 4-5 hours on end as a defense mechanism. Spending time on the computer and learning about macs may allow you an escape from the real world and the pain that is felt in thinking about where your family was and the lifestyle you once lived, to where you are today. Every single person in this forum has a defense mechanism that is not health, but as we realize our behaviors we are able to overcome them. If your addiction to macrumors and mac products interferes with your personal hygiene, school, work, and social relationships then it is considered an addiction. There are counselors at your school that can help you deal with the addiction and the lifestyle change that you have faced. Seeking help does not make you weak or any less of a person.

But hey just my two cents, I could be completely wrong...

Very true, and well said. we all live our own lives, and make our own decisions who are others to say what to do, we havent walked in his shoes.

I guess in any big purchase decision - they should make sure they are happy with what they are buying and its what they want.

Yeah, who are we to judge, but then again, some people need a reality check.

Others can take the "Don't want to say anything, everything is okay" route, but some people need help before they hurt themselves or others.

Not to be a hater, but I really dont think thats enough reason to upgrade your computer given your current financial situation... Just because your willing to go without food in order to get a new macbook, doesn't mean your family should. Give your dad back the disability check so he can buy food for the rest of your family.

Lol ok since you guys are getting it all wrong...heres whats really happening......

My mom and dad are divorced

my mom lives alone and dad lives alone..both WERE on welfare...I come to college....and then my dad gets disabilty...he got 20k my mom got 18k and I got 6k.....

Normally I would say that it would be a useful, even responsible/wise investment but given that you already have a very recent laptop, I think you would ultimately be disappointed as you wouldn't get a lightning leap experience.

My advice is to keep doing your research, but just sit on your money for a little longer. The laptops speedbump at least every six months or so (as you know) so the longer you wait the faster it will get.

One thing I really do recommend - especially in your tighter budget case - is getting non-Apple RAM if you want to soup it up to the maximum specs. I did this with my MacBook Pro and it only cost me around a QUARTER of the cost that the official Apple RAM would have done.

If I wanted to psychoanalyse you, the whole "get a new colour" thing rings a few alarm bells for me. If the only valid reason for your colour choice is to have something "different", it suggests your purchase may be somewhat motivated just by the desire to buy - like a kind of panic because you have been money-starved and suddenly there is cash on the table - so I think this is an even more important reason to hold off for a bit.

I liked this post.... I would never ever upgrade using apple ram, newegg all the way.. but thanks. It might be just a desire to buy, but at the same time...this computer feels really slow to me.

You can sell yours for around $600ish, then add a little money, and i cant believe it, get a Dell.

I've been saving 3 years for my MBP, and im in whats considered a wealthy family (6 Figure Salary)

Get a cheap Windows laptop, aslong as its faster than your MB, it will be fine, and get you through college.

If your that stuck up (Tbh) to not go with hard times and go back to windows, then struggle on with your MB, besides, you need a laptop that can just do what you need it to, as if you do badly in Uni, then your life is gonna be alot harder than it already is.

I figure I can get 500 out of my laptop....using the student discount 1200-500 is only a 700 dollar investment. Also...I am way to stuck up to go back to windows thank you very much. I actually have never owned a windows as my parents own macs. So I've been using mac my whole life as my personal computers. Just because it says MR newbie doesnt mean Im a newbie to Macs! lol

Yeah I agree with you on this...I am not poor. You are definitely right. I think alot of you guys are being judgemental and not really knowing the whole situation. The money I received from my dad is mine. The state gave it to me because I'm his son. Also. He stopped comming to see me in 5th grade...and I have seen him twice since then...he was a very neglectful father. Not to mention he did bad stuff to my mom. Anyway, if this were my mom disability check....thats another story. shes wonderful and has been the best mother in the world

...I think I get it now...

OK, i guess (at least to me) you made it seem like a little tighter situation than it actually is (especially saying you would rather go without food than sell your MB). If you, or your mom, don't need the money for food/shelter/etc and it is really extra cash, than upgrade. When I was in college I couldn't afford to upgrade after 2 years, but you better believe that if I got 6k that I didn't have to spend on tuition/studying abroad I definitely would have... Just don't go and upgrade 30 times like that other dude in this thread.

Umm istara, I think you need to check your understanding of pschoanalysis...Which was created by Freud. Now I may be just a graduate student in psychology but I don't believe Freud would say its about getting a new color. As I mentioned in my post Freud would suggest a defense mechanism may be at play here. Freud would ask if their were any fixations, over gratifications, or under gratifications in his childhood that would make him feel that he NEEDS to purchase a new computer when it was not needed. He would want to know if the original poster is using his addiction to apple products and apple forums to fill the void of a parent that wasn't there during his childhood. Anyways, just thought I would point out this...

Oh haha yeah. That was exaggeration and I could see how in the context of the paragraph, me saying Id rather go without food makes it seem really bad haha.

dude if your not talking **** then you should really stay away from buying a laptop right now.. its not whats importent in life.
its not even funny

I browse these forums once a day for 15 or 30 minutes a day, and would consider myself an Apple fan. I keep up on technology news from several sites, and wait for new technologies and products to develop and be released before buying something.

However, I would hardly consider myself an addict. The last time I bought an Apple computer was 2004. If I'm not planning on buying soon, the new stuff in the pipeline doesn't get me hot and bothered.

All this being said I thought that 90% of this post was for the purpose of attracting attention, and should be disregarded. Using your parents disability pay for a fancy gadget to replace a not-yet-old fancy gadget is an incredibly stupid idea. Not only does it show the order of your priorities, but shows that you have no problem with wasting other peoples' money, which is the WRONG mentality to go through life with.

This is why the OP's original subject makes alot of sense, he has issues in his life yet his priority is with apple laptops because its an obsession!!

I totally understand how you feel about apple laptops. I still fish for a good condition powerbook g4 that I can snag for a 2nd machine that I really dont need every day...

It's an obsession that a good, hard slap upside the head would cure. Or more easily, some freaking perspective. If you define your life based on what apple products you have/want/buy, then you're a pretty pathetic human being. Travel, read, volunteer...or just unglue your lips from Apple's @ss for a little while. Some of you people make me ashamed of my computer choice. Especially the OP.

lol at apple addiction :D

i only carry round with me one laptop, and one ipod. i don't need no more. but then i don't have addictive personality.

;):p
