This is why the OP's original subject makes alot of sense, he has issues in his life yet his priority is with apple laptops because its an obsession!!

I totally understand how you feel about apple laptops. I still fish for a good condition powerbook g4 that I can snag for a 2nd machine that I really dont need every day...

I guess maybe a part of this obsession is because my friends and family all know me as being "into computers" I now have a 2 year old computer. My friends are getting better computers than me and I feel inclined to have the best out there.

It's an obsession that a good, hard slap upside the head would cure. Or more easily, some freaking perspective. If you define your life based on what apple products you have/want/buy, then you're a pretty pathetic human being. Travel, read, volunteer...or just unglue your lips from Apple's @ss for a little while. Some of you people make me ashamed of my computer choice. Especially the OP.

I'm trying to fix my obsession as well but everytime I'm on the computer I spend all that time looking at ebay for great deals on powerbook/macbook pro.

Also I think that alot of us who are on this macrumor forum has some sort of obsession with apple.

I'm done upgrading and will not upgrade when the new mbp will hit and while I occasionally do look on ebay at the older powerbook g4 (dont know why but I want a good conditioned one on the cheap to carry it around preferably a 12" pb 1.5ghz model) and living pretty much at this forum, I'm going to at least keep my current 17" mbp until it wont perform the way I'd like it to (trying to keep it at least 4 years) before upgrading.

Welcome ...

Some of the posts have been tough but then your friends tell you what you need to hear, not always what you want to hear. And it is nice to have a place where you can vent and hear other thoughts and opinions. I love reading the posts, I have to say I've learned a lot in here that has effected purchases I make.

We're all MacJunkies, but don't do something irresponsible just to keep up with friends. You may not be addicted, but that will start a trend of behavior hard to break as you get older. Read some of these posts asking everyone if they buy often or keep their macs until they die: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/498212/
The comments are interesting because with these products you can hang on to them indefinitely. There's a sense of pride for those who are still using old Macs... Reminds me of the badges Mercedes Benz would give Diesel owners to place on the grills of their cars. I think it was for every 50,000 miles or something you would get a badge. Here, using older stuff is a status symbol too.

So, think about it and don't do anything quickly. You already know how much time you should be spending in MacRumors, you already know it may not be wise to buy right now. I believe you know what's best for you to do.
