My battery on my iPhone 4 seems to be going a tad but fast nowadays. Overall, iOS 4.2.1 hasn't been nice to my iPhone. Usually after I update my iOS, my iPhone is very snappy. Not so with this one. It takes a good 10 seconds to open camera app and typing stuff into Maps takes awhile too.

Battery worked fine before the new update. I have most notifications turned off, manual push on mail, and no wifi. Now it seems to be running down pretty quick.

Attached is my battery usage after the first charge after upgrading to 4.2.1.

My settings are: Brightness about 60% (just below the "e" in "Brightness"), auto-brightness on, Bluetooth off, WiFi on, Location services on, mobile data off for about 80% of the time, notifications off, no push services, no email accounts set up on the phone (I manually log into Gmail in the browser if I really feel the need to check email), and calander and contacts set for manual sync. I suspect that the big help for me is that I have the phone permanently set to 2G.

Usage was reading in iBooks, games and some WiFi and 2G data access. I made sure that there was absolutely no listening to music since this distorts the figures (making them look higher). The usage for calls and data is misleading because I forgot to reset the stats on the last charge so I think that my call time for the current period was probably zero (I don't use this thing much as a phone) and only about half of the data was used during the current period although there would have been lots more WiFi data that isn't listed of course.

My impression is that this is definitely better than I was getting with 4.0 where usually I got to about 9.5 hours of similar usage and I've even bumped up the brightness a bit since then, maybe from about 50% to my new 60% setting.

Does anyone use their alarm? Saturday I went to sleep with no alarm on at 100% battery, I woke up at 75%. Last night I went to sleep at 100% with the alarm set and my phone was dead this morning.

This has been happening to me as well. I have an iPhone 4 and before updating to 4.2, I had the best battery life. I was so happy with the performance. Now I notice that the battery is losing power at a higher rate and the truth is that my phone has the same exact settings as it had during 4.1. I am really not sure why this is the case.

I haven't looked at previous pages of this thread but has anyone tried a hard restore or just a restore from backup?? Any luck with either of these??

I wanted to bump this up cause I was wondering if anyone could post some more battery stats. I wanted to compare. Idk if I'm just noticing it more now but it seems like the battery runs low quite a bit even with little to no use. Stats anyone??

Alarm ON - battery dead .

Iphone 3G - 4.2.1 JB

I'm running a little battery endurance test at the moment. I use my phone almost similarly every day, and that is with some browsing and facebook, about 30-60min phone calls in average, a little gaming and usage of some apps that use location services like Maps, Navigon and some weather apps. I also have one Gmail account set up on my iPhone 4 (running 4.2.1). Brightness is set to about 35% with auto adjust. Here are my results until now.

Settings: 60min fetch, 3G, WiFi
5% left after 6h 35min usage and 1d 23h stand-by

Settings: Push (both mails and calendar), 3G, WiFi
2% left after 6h 16min usage and 1d 14h stand-by

Right now I'm testing how it performs with 3G switched off, and it seems like it makes a big difference. Right now I'm on 51% after 3h 45min usage and 1d 20h stand-by, and that is still with push and WiFi on.

I can't really figure out, if I should be happy or disappointed with these results. I mean it's not funny to have an iPhone when you're not on the 3G network. Mine often jumps off the 3G network and degrades to EDGE or GPRS even though I'm in the middle of Copenhagen, Denmark, and should have lots of 3G coverage everywhere downtown. I really don't know what to do about this, cause as the numbers show, that is a big factor in my battery performance.

Also noticed a big change in battery life. At least 20% change. On 4.1 I ended up a night at %75 now its like %40 ?? Crazy! Yes my phone is jail-broke but it also was in 4.1

ohhh well!

I haven't run any tests, but all I can tell you is that after the 4.2.1 update, my iphone 4 has a much better battery life. For example, my iPhone today was connected to a Wifi network, 3G was also on, and after 12 hours on battery, I still have 89% battery left. I can go two days without charging my iPhone. That is a great battery life for a smartphone.

My iPhone 4 with 4.2.1 seems like battery is worse but not monitoring it closely enough to say 100%.

4.2.1 JB 3G battery life calibration

I drained my battery to 2 percent yesterday and full recharge after it.
Today 100 percent after 4 hours standby and 25 min use.

I have noticed a decrease pretty much every time I wake my phone and play around on it. It's always going down percentages, and with the wifi on it goes down considerably even when idle, which never use to be the case. I could leave the wifi on and let the phone sit there for hours without any real significant battery loss.

I've turned off some notifications, half brightness with no auto bright, and hourly push mail. I'm at 62% now.

Usage: 4 hours, 43 minutes
Standby: 18 Hours, 44 minutes

Most of the usage is listening to music, and wifi was off for most of the time since last full charge.

Major drain issues

okay so for starters, im going on my second week as an iphone user, this is now my 2nd iphone. ive been to the apple store over 6 times in the last week and a half trying to figure out what the hell is going on with my phone. ive tried everything so far, disabling push and notifications for everything, setting brightness to 15 % disabling cellular data (only way to take my phone off 3g without it disconnecting from all other networks through my provider) location services are off, every thing closed down in multitasking immediately after use, wifi is always off, 1 hotmail account thats set to retrieve data manually, Ive even had them replace the battery on the first phone, and even updated to 4.2.1 still no luck. went back 2 days later and got a new iphone, this one is great on standby , playing music on lock for hours, but nothing more.

So last night i compared with a guy at work both starting with 100%, now also remember my phone is days old, his is months old. Now my phone started off with no multitasking apps open, location off, wifi off, facetime disabled, push and notification off, no bluetooth, and i had my data enabled so i could go through forums and check facebook.

his phone has wifi enabled, bluetooth enabled, 3g, and data, all push and notifications on, 4 email accounts set on retrieve every hour, brightness at 80% , facetime on, autolock set to never, gps and google maps always on

within the first hour i had sent 10 text messages, played 15 mins of angry birds checked facebook once and was already at 77% battery

within the first 4 hours he had been texting listening to audio, watching youtube, watching videos on facebook, browsing facebook, among 15 other sites, showing me different apps he has and turning them on and off ,playing all 3d games , pretty much qualifying himself as extreme heavy user of the iphone and he had finally gotten to 82 % after constant heavy use

by that time i had made 2 calls 3 txt messages 5 mins of angry birds, and about 7 mins of robot unicorn attack, and i was at 55 %, that of which i locked my phone again and left it

after 6 1/2 hours of the same heavy usage on his phone he finally makes it to about 66% when mine is now at 54% from being locked for 2 hours

I dont know what to do... apple wont replace my phone again and they cant figure it out, on this new phone ive even done a full restore, and only loaded 2 apps, from a 100% charge with 2 texts and 15 mins of app usage im at 79% and its logging usage when im not using it and everythings closed fully

Hey Reaperz, I understand your frustration, im pretty much the same with my iPhone 4, im onto my 2nd phone also and even though the standby time is a bit better, the percentage meter drops 1% almost every 3 minutes !

What I have decided to do is to switch off the percentage meter, im just gonna use my phone without having to worry about how much percentage it has dropped, as I know that when I get home im going to place it on charge anyway !
