My 2014 retina had to be replaced under warranty after 2 screen replacements (delaminating), failed hard drive, and a failed fan which caused a faulty logic board and battery.

The common denominator here is me. Maybe I'm the problem!

My 2007 MacBook Pro still runs like a charm with an SSD in it...
The same delaminating issue is starting to happen with my Early 2015 MBP and I have to say, I'm very disappointed. I have a Surface Pro 3 and its trouble free, along with my HP Elitebook 8460p and an Acer Aspire. The MacBook works fine otherwise, but considering the retina line launched in 2012 and they have been manufacturing notebooks with it at scale, its kinda surprising that, up to 2015, this was still happening; I actually bought mine in late 2015. Now, I will have to lug this through airports to take it back to the store to see if they can sort it out.

Not sure a Mac is at the top of my list in the future, seems they are bit too delicate and prone to issues.

Not sure if I am over-reacting. I bought a brand new Macbook Pro 15" with touchbar early January this year. So far I have been plagued with a host of issues - all random.
While I have got used to Apps crashing and suddenly losing internet connectivity and keyboard keys getting stuck, the worst was when I had to travel for work.
On the trip, the Macbook wouldn't boot up. No warning - just one fine day. Checked online and saw quite a few others have had similar problems

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7776594?start=0&tstart=0

I tried all kinds of support options listed then spoke to Apple support for several hours. Finally had to go to the store. They also tried variious tricks and finally sent it out for repair. checked if they can give me a loaner - But seems they don't do that. No swapping out the laptop either. So no computer for almost a week! I

I got it back with a replaced logic board. It worked fine for 2 months (of course with crashing apps, random slowness etc) . Yesterday it stopped charging - I went to the store - they tried a couple of other chargers, but didn't work.
Same thing - they said they have to send it out for repair.
So I have a laptop which I almost paid $3000 (with Apple Care) and its the most un-reliable Mac on earth.
I requested the store to at least swap the computer out this time. I explained to them, that if they even replace the logic board like they did the last time, i still wouldn't feel confident about the laptop. It might work for a month or two and then suddenly stop working probably when I need it the most.
The Genius bar guy says - well it worked fine for two months! wow.. what an answer Apple!!...never thought I'd hear something like this from you!!!
He checked with the store manager and some colleagues but all of them said this has to be sent for repair - and no replacement possible. So I am back to not having a laptop for about another week.

I have had several Macbooks over the years = a 2004 Powerbook, 2007 Macbook, 2009 Macbook, 2011 Macbook. Barring one incident of a battery change, I never had to take any of them to the store for repairs. I am now thinking of quitting Macs and going with Windows...probably a Surface Book. At least your expectations are lower and you don't feel cheated!!

I don't think you're over reacting. I'm sorry you're going through all this trouble with your MacBook Pro. I got a fully loaded 2016 MacBook Pro 15" with no issues. I only had graphic issues until the upgraded Mac OS. Crashed once in iMovie in 8 months. Pretty Stable. What I don't understand is if they swapped your logic board, what's left to cause the issue? Every component is on the board except the battery. Do you think it's possible its a software issue or a virus? I hope whatever the issue is it gets resolved. In a unrelated issue, I got a new 2017 iMac for work and it died in 1 week. Bad power supply. I was shocked. Let us know what happens

This is your second issue in all these years and might be switching to Windows, I think that's over reacting.
I don't want Apple to lose it's edge. Not that I am an expert but what I am beginning to feel is earlier Apple was years ahead than the rest. I feel other manufacturers are very close to catching up in terms of design and quality. Windows as an OS has it's advantages too and is getting less "buggy" compared to earlier versions.

Sure. I'll update on this forum.

I don't think others are even close concerning hardware and OS, just an example, no-one has trackpads as good as Apple's, no-one has the deep OS integration as Apple, for instance, I am on the second floor, my iPhone is one level lower yet when there's an incoming call I can pick it up from my Mac.
Software Update in Windows is crap and it's not been solved in W10 either.
Settings are all over the place.
Windows backdoors are wide open.
Do I need to go on....
Those are just a few examples, plenty more.

Worst Mac I have ever owned was the polycarbonate MacBook :D Got that thing was terrible (still miles better above other similar-priced laptops on the market).

Been using Windows for quite a while now. The last time I caught a virus that caused irreparable damage, was Windows ME in the summer of 2001. It was a win32 virus from a Word document my dad received as an attachment through Outlook Express.

macOS and no other platform is immune to attacks and Windows 10's software as a service strategy is reducing the attack service of Windows with each feature update.

Just last week, reports of a backdoor on the Mac called Fruitfly made the news. No operating system is perfect.

The other points you made valid though, great hardware design, integration. I don't see settings as all over the place, its actually a cleaner, more thoughtful design.

Wasn't really about malware/viruses, more like someone can get (much) easier acces to your files in windows, as far as I know no-one has been able to control/acces to the OS remotely in OS X/macOS.

Settings in W10 is worse than W7, they are in 2 places.

Windows 10 and macOS are both safe and secure operating systems, both have vulnerabilities mostly exposed by the users. Microsoft is clearly moving more settings to the new UI, equally nor can Microsoft rapidly flip a switch given the massive corporate footprint the OS has. One also has to question if your living in settings, once set up I rarely visit settings in either OS.

Major problem with Windows is it's complex and offers the average user far too much control, hence why so many systems go haywire. If you understand the OS or don't meddle with it Windows rarely presents issue, there's good reason why the term PEBKAC originated...

Again, assumptions, in most Pwn2own contests, macOS is usually the first one to go down. The weakest link being Safari and thats just proof concept of how easy it is to get into the system.

Windows PC's are extremely secure if you follow the basic rules, keep your computer updated and install the latest feature updates. Also, features like Secure Boot and BitLocker Drive Encryption make it a hard nut to crack. Encryption is also better on Windows 10. While macOS will only encrypt your Home Folder, Windows 10 does this system wide.

Windows 10 is currently in transition. The classic Control Panel and is likely to removed within the next few releases. Its no different from when initial releases of OS X had the Classic environment. Also, when I am search for a setting I would like to change, I don't necessarily have to open the app itself, I just use natural language from Search. Click Start > type, change background. Its most likely to hit the most common result.

There are several things wrong in this post, first I said remotely, AFAIK there is no known case that someone broke into OS X/macOS REMOTELY.

You are also wrong about encryption, Filevault encrypts the whole disk, not only your Home folder.

Apple also has SIP.

Your correct, nor will you break into an up to date W10 system, equally all OS are vulnerable to experts.

MacBook Hacked in Seconds in Pwn2Own Contest - The Mac ...

According to ZDNet, Mr. Miller was able to breach the Mac's security with a remote attack that only required the MacBook user to click a specific link in the Safari

Ok, without consent/interaction of the user, I should have added that bit, thought that would be clear to you or others.
Oh please, we are not using computers from 1987. The recent wannacry attacks used social engineering, a basic email attachment. The most used app on any computer is the web browser, unless you are cyber security expert, anyone could fall for that without knowing it. There are dozens more, just do a Google search for OS X Remote attacks.

"Worst Mac I have owned - Macbook Pro 2016 with TouchBar"

Same here.
Had to return mine.
Can't live with this level of junk at those prices.
500 bucks, maybe, but at almost 3 THOUSAND dollars......heck no.
At least for me.

Lol.....I got the Lenovo X1 Carbon.
Fantastic machine.
Love that thing.
Superb batter, amazing mouse, incredibly light and batter that last all day.
Except the "Y" key only seems to work intermittently. :)

This I agree with but as I said before , it wasn't my point, you can get much easier acces to a Windows PC than a Mac without anyone sitting behind the Computer.

Just for your information, you were wrong about about whole disk encryption and SIP.

They could've been talking about Lenovo's brownie-making option. Usually it's connected via USB, but who doesn't love a computer with a built-in snack mixer.

Your point didn't make any sense, you were proven wrong and you don't like it. Lets agree to that. If Windows computers were that easy to crack, 1.5 billion devices, many of which are used in government, businesses, education and homes would have been compromised. Think logically please.

And that has been the case, are you living in a cave.

But, it's my word against yours, no big deal.:)

Uh, were you in a parallel universe or on a different planet when Wannacry hit last May???

Effecting un-patched older systems, not W10, might just want to wake up yourself. Both W10 & macOS are safe and secure operating systems, equally not impervious to attack by those with knowledge...

Q-6
The comment I replied to was not limited to a Win10 only universe. Windows 7 & 8 were vulnerable until a post-Wannacry patch was released. Windows 7 & 8 are still being supported by MS.

And if patched no issue, however many organisations hold off due to concerns with SW compatibility, net result vulnerability. Most vulnerable aspect of any OS is the user and their decisions.
