tries to order 256 natural titanium, yes it’ll be sold out. maybe switch to a different color? you will most likely use a case anyways.

I had 4 approaches working in parallel:
1, iPhone via App Store connected via cellular provider
2, iPad via App Store connected to WiFi
3, Mac via FireFox on www.apple.com connected to LAN
4, Mac via Safari on www.apple.com connected to iCloud Private Relay

The 4th option came back at 2 after and I was able to complete two orders, one for each of my “Get ready for preorder” configured phones, which I completed without issue in about 30 seconds. The other 3 options were stuck on “Almost there” until at least 18 after, which is when Natural Titanium configurations started slipping. I stopped watching at that point.

Don’t you think that people like you are part of the problem ? …. 4 devices on the go ….. if everyone globally did this the result speaks for itself 😃…..

Literally dumbfounded with how bad the whole experience was. Spending ages on ‘almost there’ - preorder info failing to load - trade in service not available - experiencing issues - everything about the whole thing was an utter shambles.

Had to settle for a delivery 2nd to 9th of October and I wish I had preordered elsewhere, Apple seriously dropped the ball here.

Should be ashamed.

And now you have been suspended, talk about when it rains it pours...

Didn't get in on the app at all until almost 9am. I was able to get in on my work desktop at around 8:24am but by that time dates had slipped into October.

Luckily, I have over 8 stores near me and they all had plenty of availability for in-store pickup, which I opted for. It really was super stressful launch and I have been doing this yearly since the iPhone 4. The worst so far IMO.

No idea what you mean. It was this chaotic and terrible last year as well. You were just on the wrong side of the pre-ordering fence this time.

It was terrible! I was not able to get into the Apple site until 13:17pm and by then delivery dates had pushed into October! Ended up ordering with Carphone warehouse which stated delivery for 22nd for a 512gb PM.. only to then receive an email after ordering saying now due October 3rd 😡

Fair point. 😃

It’s possible, but I wasn’t ordering from four devices or constantly refreshing from them.

From an engineering perspective, their caching servers should be handling everything up until the transaction begins so the load each “Almost there” device adds should be near zero (and absolutely zero on the transaction servers.)

Resources would become most constrained as Apple processes authorizations (which also has a dependency on credit providers), but any preorders which were pre-authorized (like mine or anybody else who did the “Get ready for Pre-order” step) bypass that.

And for context, I’m not pulling all this completely out of thin air. 😉 I’ve worked at comparably sized companies that handle this type of scenario and have built solutions to address them. To my knowledge, Apple actually faces the hardest implementation since they choose to make *global* preorders available at the same second worldwide. Most other companies have the luxury of a phased rollout (eg “sales begin at 8am for your country”), but Apple is accepting orders from everyone on the planet simultaneously. You can partition and scale horizontally all you like, but that’s still a nasty scenario, especially when you start to factor in bot detection and mitigation, DDOS attacks (which they never talk about but I suspect they experience), etc. 😅

I’m surprised I got all 4 of my family phones pre ordered for delivery day. Not easy juggling 4 phones at once with all those errors lol.

My response was tongue in cheek 😃…. Reality is that you don’t add to the problem (that much) …… Everything is carved up depending on which store you are logged into to place your order. Overall it actually runs very well IMHO and in the big wide world the few people that can’t place their order the minute they want to is not an issue in the grand scheme of things.

Is it terrible that you couldn’t order for 17 minutes ?

It was so rough. Normally I have my battlestation - 2 iPad Pros, phone with Apple Store, and MacBook Pro with 2 browsers ready to go. I had to order from an overseas flight and the wifi was 0.09 down, 0.32 up, and 2457 ping. I screenshotted it because I'll be attempting to get a refund for that $29 wifi service.

Since I only had my phone and awful wifi, I didn't get an order in until :35-ish. It was such a mess. Oct 9-16. Disappointed. It's rare I can't get a launch day device when I go for it. :/

If you want it on launch day, go to an Apple store - they will have some in stock.

I was really tempted but I'm doing the Citizen's Bank financing + trade-in so I'm not sure I can swap it out. :/ I wonder if I can cancel and reorder for pickup that morning if I see 6am stock?

IUP - got it.

You would have to cancel and place another order for store pickup and trade in on launch day.

My order didn't work - it ended up sitting in my bag. I found it when I woke up in the morning with a date of November. Thankfully, I had reserved a phone as a backup.

i got one error and thats it and got in store pick up on the 22nd 512gb pro max natural titanium

In my opinion Apple do this deliberately, making pre-order difficult for many people because in doing so it will show Apple who are the hard core fans because they will stick with it. Every year for the past god knows how many years, when the latest iphone is ready to be released Apple's website goes down and when it is supposedly working MR members come to this forum to express their frustration and disgust at having another very poor pre-order experience. It is very clear to me Apple have not learnt by their mistakes and have no intention of improving the pre-order process. Why? because this forum is awash with threads and posts of people posting their frustration and disgust at the pre-order process and the same thing happens year in, year out. Any competent business would recognise the problems and go about correcting them but not Apple, they persistently want their customers to have a bad pre-order experience.

And you know why Apple will not improve things? because they probably are aware of users complaints but they want to see if the person will still go ahead with the order or cancel it and not bother, instead staying with their current iphone.

Been ordering every iPhone online since the 4S.

This year was the worst I’ve experienced. First world problems for sure. Since Apple went to this new pre-pre order construct I’ve never had any issues. Normally goes super quick. Not this year…something went down and it took 25 minutes to order at which point availability slipped to Oct 4th.

But this is proof others were able to order just fine. So it had to be a regional issues and not wide spread.

I know 3 other people besides myself who pre-ordered that day. Although we were the lucky ones and were able to order for release day, we all agreed it was a pretty poor experience.

Hoping everyone who had issues can get their iPhone sooner than originally expected.

Defiantly regional issues. In Miami it was brutal. From the 10 people I know who were pre ordering same time only I managed to get a launch day 15PM for next Friday. Picking up Apple Store @ 5:30 pm.
