I generally like the first day of school...light and easy with little to worry about. Class introductions, meet some new people and go back to the dorm for some frisbee or a nap. :)

Lets see it is my last semester of college. First day what sucked about it.

Getting up for 8am class,
Parking. First week sucks finding a parking spot because people show up for class. The models they use for selling permits are based on about the 3rd week of the semester

Freshmen who think they are hot stuff because they are in college and they are know it alls.

Having to figure out what the best route is to campus because of constitution on my planned route.

Being late to class on the first day

Falling asleep in class on the first day... Ok so sue me it is a math class I am taking for the minor.

Having to argue with the teacher I do have pre reqs for the class and explaining for the 20th time I change my major so a lot of the pre reqs where from my other major and the computer just not telling.

Trying now to count down the days until Dec 15th.

I woudn't let anyone drive on the road either with such an old document on it. :D
my first day of highschool is coming up soon...i am looking forward 2 it because it is the entrance 2 a whole other sector of my life. i cn't wait 2 use my macbook in class!!!(they'll be sooo jealouse)(its a prep school so no need 2 wry bout theft)

Are you taking a typing class by any chance? Also, just because it's a prep school, doesn't mean you don't have to worry about theft. I bet the amount of drugs dealt in my high school, along with theft of various expensive things, would rival that of any suburban high school. Heck, in my senior year alone, two kids were expelled. One for dealing in school (and not his first time), the other for having a cache of stolen TI-83's in his locker.

Having to talk to people you don't really want to...
Knowing there's another 10 months of it

Having to deal with less children and teens on a daily basis.

...Oh wait, you said worst.

Hey.
:)

So, I just got out of school, and I'm like half asleep. Well, one things for sure, I'm gonna get a good nights sleep tonight.

My principal gave us one of his long winded speeches. Today, it was about "no matter how much you're abused, your worth is never hindered" and showed it by crumpling up and stomping on a $20 bill. I asked him "what if you burn the dollar?" He wasn't amused. :D

The extra traffic caused by soccer mommies taking their brats to school.

It's so annoying, in my village they stop in the middle of the road and wait till school finishes, make them walk for christs sake, most of them live 2 minutes walk down the road....

My hate is seeing all the arrogant cocky sports-loving kids boasting about how drunk/laid they got (this is when your 14/15 btw) in France/Spain/Majorca, come on, it's Europe, no-one cares, your parents probably got the "Travel to <insert european country here> for £5" discount from The Sun.

How about from the teachers point of view?

-Smart@ss kids who can't do something as simple as listen to me read a syllabus. I'm not going to assign major homework the first day. All I need to do is get you to understand what we'll be doing, and then assign you 5 pages of reading. That's it, 5 pages. Some students think they can just disregard me during the first day.

-All the bleh stuff leading up to the first day. Although a majority of planning was done during the summer, this is the culmination. Getting to the building super early for faculty inservice meetings, and knowing that 5 days a week, I'll be up far earlier than a human being should be.

Remember students, if you show your general disdain for a teacher, there is a good chance it is reciprocal. Let's all try to get along, yes? Some days, I don't want to be there anymore than you do, so cooperation gets us both through the day!

I really wish I was joking about this, but at my school, the "salad" is a tiny plastic bowl with half a leaf of lettuce and a slice of tomato. You're supposed to buy it with the grape-sized apple and the spicy "chicken" sandwich, all for the low, low price of $2.

Hi everybody! I'm starting school tomorrow, and it made me curious: what's everyones least favorite thing about the first day of school. Of course I'm looking for answers from students, but parents and teachers are encouraged to answer as well. This is your time to vent.

I guess I'll start. (You can do it anyway you'd like, I'm just going to do it in list format)

-Waking up on the first day, I'm always zombified on the first day of school
-My principals annoying first day of school speech
-getting our new weekly planners, just makes you realize how long the school year is

ur school starts on a thurs? mine i next tues

Waking up, although i have trouble doing that all year :D
the teachers who assign actual homework the first night
Having to go to AP French and AP Gov
Knowing its the first day of a 180 plus day school year

I couldn't stand school. It was like a prison sentence for me! University is so much better and more relaxed :D (Sometimes) but I love how I only go for a few hours a day rather than your standard school day

Why not just let the kids read the syllabus themselves? They know how to read. I'm guessing, unless you teach 1st grade or something.

I guess I'm not in any place to tell you how to do your job or anything, but its just an observation.

I hate those things. It's basically the same for every class every year since 3rd grade, and we have to get them signed by our parents *for a grade.* Which is dumb. I'm old enough to drop out if I wanted. I don't need to be getting grades for my parents' signitures. >.<

Don't be overconfident...I went to one of the top prep schools in the country and there were a few too many laptops and iPods stolen while I was there.
we have a special place where we can put stuff like that when we arn't using it...and i have lojack

I think the most annyoing thing about grade school and my first tour through college was that fact I really didn't see the point to a lot of it. That made me not care. Unless I was able to see real life scenarios I could keep motivated.

When you look at your school schedule and think the year looks long, just wait for the work place when you see your next 45 years. Thats long, enjoy school while you can.

The worst thing about it in my opinion is that it takes forever to come back around once summer starts . I personally really enjoy school, not so much during finals and midterms, but otherwise it's fun.

I hated it all! But when I was in HS, picture your locker not working and having to carry all your crap with you through out the day... IT SUCKED! Hey Steve Jobs... how about an iSchool. They love their education programs after all. lol. :apple:

(its a prep school so no need 2 wry bout theft)

I was going to second the original statement, but it looks like I'm third.

Be careful. Theft does happen. The lojack recovery setup might help for a laptop, but how long would it take to get back? And in what condition?

I know it's been said a lot, but i'll say it at least once more. Be careful, it'd be a shame for it to be stolen. I think I'd cry if anyone took my lappy away from me. Question whether you really NEED to bring it, I know i don't need to bring mine. Although i would like to show it off sometimes...
