They'd have to open up iOS 7 to get me back. I want to change the default apps, I want to be able to download files from the browser. I want access to the file system so I can drag and drop files around, etc drop songs into the Notifications and Ringtones Folders. And allow it so MP3's can be used as ringtones.

Phuu so I guess it will be IOS 15 then if so ;)

Seriously this are my points as well to consider switching back.

But....it wouldn't be, that is what i was saying, Apple have kept around 326 ppi, and with a battery at ~ 1526mAh (that is the 5S battery), that would drain with about 2 hours screen on time. But if they improve the battery, to average/good life with 4.7" screen, 1080p, improve some other stuff, in iPh6, I would consider it, money isn't as important atm, so lock down doesn't matter.

So in reply, iPh6, possibly, depends on how bout iOS and android are going. Keep an open mind. :)

Umm. The iPhone 5 battery is 1750mA and the battery in the 5S seems to be 200-300mA bigger.

Battery is unlikely to be any larger, because the 5S is the exact same form factor as the 5. It simply isn't physically possible to wedge a bigger battery into it (unless they have some new battery tech?) The screen resolution won't change in the 5S, so any increase in battery life will come from the A6X chip.

No. They HAVE increased the battery capacity.

read the battery part.

3.8V 1430mAh (iPhone 5)

vs

3.8V 1560mAh (unconfirmed 5S leak)

vs

3.8V 2600mAh (stock SGS4, mine is unused)
3.8V 7500mAh (ZeroLemon SGS4)

Whoopee-doo.

Also, there are several ways to improve battery life on the smartphone (hardware-wise):

1) Make it physically bigger, keep everything else the same so you can fit a larger battery;
2) Keep the phone size the same, but shrink internal components so you can fit a larger battery;
3) Use low-power variants of existing chips and move SoCs and other key chips onto smaller process nodes, while keeping the phone size and battery identical;
4) New, more power-dense battery tech, so you can fit more capacity into the same size or have the same capacity in a smaller size.

#4 isn't happening any time soon, so we're getting a mix of 1 2 and 3.

So many times this.

Currently only the default Clock app can use MP3s (non-ringtone) as alarm sound.

zero lemon is thicker. that and the 1080p diplay plus 5" needs a bigger battery.

I never said it's a thin battery, having that said it makes my SGS4 infinitely easier to hold than any iPhone.

final edit: How about you cut to the chase.

This thread is all about your persuading the rest of us browsing this subforum to switch back to Apple, when it releases the next iPhone revision.

No dice, kid.

Excuse me? where the **** do you think I made my mind up already? just go through my posts, I'm not trying to persuade anybody here.

No.... it isn't. "Non-removable Li-Po 1440 mAh battery " GSM Arena. Plus the ~1500 is already confirmed via a leak of construction of the 5S.

The crazy thing is Apple could easily -- easily -- add some of the features we want.

They just choose not to on some unfounded belief that people won't get it. It's a darn shame.

My primary beefs with iOS are with the software, not the hardware. I'm currently using a S4 and it's great in many ways but it has its issues both on hardware and software. I think it's a bit too big but there aren't any real flagship devices in smaller sizes for Android right now. Plus Android is very messy and excessive on the customization front rather than providing sensible defaults out of the box.

Ideally the iPhone could be about 4.3" but the software really is where more things need to happen. The poor interplay between different apps as well as the terrible lack of proper file handling got on my nerves. Likewise the disconnect between notifications and apps (clearing notification doesn't clear it from the app). Lots of little, obvious things that turn into a sea of aggravation.

Truthfully.. I love Google and OSX/Apple.

If IOS had more google apps + easy Jailbreak (only for tether on my unlimited plan) I would be back on an Iphone.

My S4 has a nice screen & I NEED tether & google apps.

Why do US carriers need to restrict tethering? I can tether and set up a WiFi hotspot without incurring additional charges and it counts towards my data plan.

Not a clue... greedy aholes is my guess.

I dont even use tether all that much, but it is something i Need to have.

I think you hit the nail on the head right there. iOS lacks some major components that would make it such a better OS.

1) Sharing of information between apps
2) Better file handling (options for defaults & choices in general)
3) Actionable notifications

A bigger screen, an ios7 jailbreak and those 3 things may be enough for me to give the next iphone a serious look. I love my s4 and all the wizardry I've been able to do with android but at times I do miss the cohesiveness and polish of ios. But then again, I pick up my iphone 5 with the latest ios7 beta and just yearn for more.

Psshh

EDIT: I guess Bloomberg is sort of pointing to the story, more than actually reporting it themselves. Makes it far less likely.

Original post:

Bloomberg has been a very reliable source of Apple information in the past (correct me if I'm wrong).

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Apple-to-bump-the-iPhone-5S-screen-to-4.3-inches_id45401

Earlier today, citing the Commercial Times, Bloomberg reported that Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S may be delayed because of a design change, and this one is pretty major – the screen on the upcoming flagship has, purportedly, been upped to a 4.3-incher.

I remain skeptical but if this is true, this is surely a reaction to the trending large screens.

Just like iOS 7, this is great for dedicated iPhone users. For the rest of us, if this turns out to be true at all, all we can say is, welcome to the future, Apple.

That's still tiny compared to the flagship Androids. Flagship Androids had that kind of screen size in 2010. Now that's only for the low end "mini" models.

It's just getting embarrassing at this point...

Can't disagree -- I've always said, if the iPhone's screen and most of its specs were released by any other manufacturer, it'd be considered a mid-ranger.

Yet still, this is a good direction for Apple and for iPhone devotees. It's a happy medium where they will benefit from the larger screen, but also be able to appease their mythical fears (like impossibilities of using it one handed or impossibilities of fitting into pockets, etc).

So you evaluate a phone by screen size only? Fantastic.

While should provide a way to have a sort of repository all apps can access i don't think they should give us a filesystem.

If the 4.3" screen turns out to be true, I'm far more curious about how apps will scale to that size. Will it scale perfectly?

And if so, that would mean Apple could've made a larger iPhone anytime they wanted (it's just math, right?).

Anyway, I'm happy to see Apple take these new directions with iOS 7 and the screen (if true). Again, not enough to sway me away from Android, but it's good for them.

Right - it couldn't POSSIBLY be that anyone actually prefers a smaller screen....
