Who said the pro would be just a larger iPad? I just finished describing what a pro "could" be. An iPad 4 is perfectly up to the tasks I could ask it to do. The lighter weight and more power is just a minor benefit to me. I've got my iphone for ultimate portability. Give me a device that will do what my desktop and laptop can do combined with the UI of iPad and do it in a way I haven't done before, I'm in.

I only read the attached keyboard bit. It will need a lot more than that to be more productive. I agree with the bolder statement above. I have a MacBook Air and imagine what a fully functional tablet (an iPad with the soul of a MacBook) could do. I'd buy it too. :D

The only benefit to having an iPad Pro would be if it ran OSX. If they were to go this route they run the risk of making the same faults of the Microsoft Surface tablet. Where one runs apps from the App Store and the other runs Apps from the Mac App Store, but neither are interchangeable. This will cause much confusion with the majority of their target market and would cause a decrease in sales.

Also how so you even hold a 13 inch tablet? It would have to have a built in kickstand despite how silly that looks from a design perspective. Doesn't seem like something Ive would do.

Nope, I feel like it'd be too big. I kind of want something that's able to fit in my bag, so the iPad Air is perfect.

Yes, I'll buy 2 of them providing they'll offer more RAM.
Actually, I will buy 1 regardless... ;)

Does MacBook run iPad apps and have a touch screen?
What a stupid question that was...

Uh, weren't we discussing how well an ipad pro could replace a laptop?

I would not buy a pro model. I mostly use my iPad for internet and email and the Air is good enough for that. Not to mention, the pro model is bound to cost more, and for more money you might as well buy an MBA in my opinion.

This. The top of the line iPad is almost $1000. That's MBA territory. And with OS X, USB and TB ports, it provides much more functionality. It's not touch screen, but a 13" iPad is not exactly a small handheld.

I would, but 13" seems kinda big. I would actually prefer something closer to the iPad Air dimensions (11" with smaller bezel?) but with better specs (can be thicker). Hoping for a quad-core A7X or A8X, 4GB ram, 64GB storage standard for around $899. 128GB and 256GB options. USB port with support for common peripherals used by creatives. A wider screen aspect ratio (not necessarily 16:9 but maybe something in-between) actually works better for doing work, especially if you have a multitasking optimized version of iOS where you could run an app beside another app, along with better file management. A digitizer that supports pressure and tilt sensitivity from a stylus would also be welcome on an iPad that would be presumably focused at creatives. A killer-app like Aperture or Lightroom would make this an insta-buy for me.

They should call it the iPad Maxi. Put a removable keyboard with it and call it an iPad Maxi with Wings. ;)

My iPad Air is primarily for browsing the web on the sofa. So in that respect, no, an iPad Pro would be too big and unnecessary for me.

I use my iPad Air (& used each other iPad, back to the first gen) for the same.... but somehow arrived at the OPPOSITE conclusion.

My other computer is a 27" iMac. I love it. Since the purchase of my first iPad it has slowly been used less & less though... the only thing it really has going for it is the much larger screen. I used to bring my iPad with me EVERYWHERE, but now I bring the family mini w/ me instead. The Air never leaves the house. I enjoy internetting on it, reading about fifteen comic titles per month, light casual gaming & more recently consuming tv shows.
Each of these are possible and enjoyable on mini, but MUCH more satisfying on Air. I imagine the same will be true with another iteration larger. I trust Apple will use the extra space for battery.... I don't think they need anything else new, so conceivably it could become even thinner & probably barely weigh more than Air. I'm pretty jazzed.

Definitely yes ESPECIALLY if it ran an OSX Lite as a minimum and can switch to iOS... That would be really sweet. That or they better make at least all the cross platform iWork apps exact!

Keyboards? There will be more than enough third party options.. But if Apple can make it more 'sexy' then I'd love to see that (And I know they can)... Perhaps replace my aging MacBook Air.

After an iPad 3 and iPad 4 I went with an iPad rMini, so in terms of size I'm going even smaller.

That being the case, I don't see the appeal of a massive, probably heavy and certainly unwieldy tablet.

I would not take the plunge on any sort iPad pro. I like others actually went the other way and picked up the iPad rMini. Smaller is better, in my case.

I don't feel the iPad is a laptop or desktop computer replacement for me, but rather an adjunct, its supplements the the laptops usefulness. I like to read, do some emails and surfing. I can do all of that on my rMBP, but its a but easier on the iPad.

I can log into my companies network, access servers, great or modify large spreadsheets or documents on my iPad but clearly the laptop is better suited for such tasks.

My point an iPad pro doesn't provide the same type of ability, power and flexibility a desktop (or laptop) can and thus makes it a poor choice.

As per the recent front page article, there's even more speculation as to whether we'll see a bigger iPad soon or not. Of course, I don't think Apple would JUST release a bigger iPad--including a Smart Cover the likes of the Surface's is plausible. That aside though, I feel that I'd have a harder time justifying buying a larger iPad rather than a smaller iPad, if I were coming from the 10" iPad. The mini's appeal isn't hard to figure out. Just like the 10" iPad's appeal is obvious, too. But with the iPad Pro, we start to get into laptop replacement territory. Your thoughts?

It needs to have an OS that allows windows and other productivity features.

The iPad Air made me buy an iMac, so no.

I can't consider an iPad a true desktop replacement until we have a real file system on iOS. My iPad Air is a great on-the-go mobile device but it can't quite fill all my computing needs full-time quite yet.

No interest in an iPad Pro personally, but choice is good for those who want a bigger iPad.

Still have no idea how people use an iPad as their one and only though, what an absolute pain it must be for all but the very lightest of work and productivity.

You can almost sense the future heartache in this thread. Expectations are being set as we speak. The bar is set high. The release will surely be nothing but defective yellow screens and Safari crashes. Not enough RAM etc.. Can't wait. lol

"IT WEIGHS OVER ONE POUND?!" :p

The Air is borderline too big as it is. There's no comfortable physical way to hold a 13" iPad. There would have to be 0 border and even then it would be awkward to hold.

If an iPad Pro is to come, I don't think it will be a 13" tablet, but a 10.6" tablet with the same aspect ratio as the iPhone 5s. If it is, and it has a Surface-style TypeCover2 and support for a mouse, I'd buy it. I like everything about my Surface RT except for the lack of apps, and the occasional lag. So I still rely on my iPad 4... with a great selection of apps and unparalleled performance (running 6.1.3, 12-14 hours of battery life).

I really like the ability to use the tablet as a tablet and then as a netbook. Because of the 16:9 AR of the Surface, the TypeCover keyboard is the same width as the keyboard on my 15.4" MBP. Typing is just as comfortable on it as my MBP.

The first company to put it all together is going to get my money the next time around.
