Would you buy the rumored new Studio Display?

That’s not quite correct. The MBPro miniLED has been spectacular for me in that regard and I’m one who detests blooming. But most, including the now-discontinued Pro XDR, don’t have sufficient numbers of zones to make me do anything other than shudder when photo editing. That’s why I don’t have one. I could afford it if I could justify it and I cannot justify paying anywhere near that price for something that would annoy me regularly.

I’m relatively certain the new Studio XDR will probably be a blooming superior monitor to the Pro XDR in that respect. But I’ll never again buy a 27” monitor for my main setup.

Aside: finally downloaded BetterDisplay. We will see if a third party is able to solve my Apple display issues…
 
@TheBigApple2006 same, as someone that often notices the fans on the ASD in a quiet room. They added more vent holes on the new model so I wouldn’t be surprised there are bigger, lower frequency fans. They probably still obnoxiously run all the time though :/

Same, love my 27" ASD from 2022 - no fan noise.
Alongside it is a 2011 Thunderbolt 27" display which works well together with a Mac Studio!

Nope. I'm sticking with 4K's.

A cheap DP connected AOC 27" U2790B (with surprisingly high color accuracy) and even older LG MD4KA-B 21.5" still get the job done for me.

If I hadn't bought my ASD a year ago, I would certainly be considering the new ASD, but not the XDR. My other display is an 11 year old Thunderbolt now used as the secondary. One reason for keeping the Thunderbolt is the array of USB-A ports on the back.

The increase in resolution of the ASD over the Thunderbolt was worthwhile.

I guess you don't need to sample colors accurately all the time.

Any amount of blooming is regrettable for that reason alone. But I'm glad you like what you have.

At one point I read something that convinced me that the studio display was actually the best for Photoshop, or at least better than the old pro XDR.

I'm glad people enjoy what they have. I'm curious how good that new BenQ 5K monitor is.

If you wanted to sample a color, how would you differentiate the desired color from the bloom you may see?

I suppose you could do it carefully with zooming and/or your sample size.

Actually, I think it's the tinnitus I developed from the Intel-era MBPs in clamshell mode that keeps me from hearing the ASD fans. So it's all good. haha

I’m currently using my 2019 15” Intel MBP with Vega GPU with my ASD until my M5 arrives in a couple weeks. I have the monitor charging the MBP in clamshell mode. I’ll let the battery drain and then plug back into the ASD to check if I can hear the fans while recharging. Honestly haven’t ever heard the fans.

I see Marques Brownlee's review of the XDR has dropped and he does a side by side comparison of the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display XDR in a dark room to show the massive improvement in the lack of blooming on the new display. It now really does look to match the MBP screen.
