No because Siri is too dumb to even compose a coherent message. It would probably say something like "Here is an internet search for that" or something.

LOL. Like why does Apple thinks using a voice command on my phone = having to look at something? I'm using Siri because my hands and eyes aren't available to do that! Just tell me! As much as I hate Amazon, Alexa is miles and miles ahead on this.

I’d be happy if after dictating a message a command could be said to send the message.
Also need a way to change the name from Siri.

I want Apple's AI offering to enable me to set up multi step shortcut automations by just speaking them. For example: "On Monday through Thursday only, turn my phone to low power mode, silent mode and open spotify, when I arrive at the gym before 3:30pm"

If it can create a shortcut automation like this, that would be amazing.

iOS 19: Relationship Boost: Let Siri periodically check in on friends with automated conversation.
iOS 20: Meeting in person? Get a summary of the conversations Siri has had for you!
Siri: "I have decided to send SiriPod over to your friend's house to run them down so now your life can be more efficient, and should be more joyful! Don't answer; I already know what you're thinking; you can save your energy. Here's a sandwich. I have written the eulogy for you and planned your next va-cay. I have used my AI to write your own funeral message to anyone who might be left when you go. You're welcome."

maybe but mostly she's a dunce. I'm worried she'll make me sound stupider than I already do

Hey Apple, how about simply trying to improve Siri first?

In any case - I already find this "feature" annoying in Teams - I turned it off, but it keeps turning itself back on every so often. If Apple enables it in Messages, I'll be doing the same there (including, I imagine, having to keep re-disabling it periodically).

You mean just have Siri send the message after you are done dictating? Do you have it set to automatically send messages? Its a setting in the Siri and Search settings.

This is going to be super codger-y, but is this really the society we want to become? Too lazy to even draft our own text messages—handful of words, abbreviated punctuation, practically no grammar requirements—to friends and loved ones?

Google incorporating Gemini in messages!

The last news article I read about Gemini is how it was generating racist images and Google had to shut down image generation until it fixes it.

Hey! We can’t be bothered to use enough brainpower to remember where we left our lunchbox without using an AirTag, what makes you think we would compose a 4-word text message?😁

Lol. Hopefully Siri won’t be still drunk while writing it.
Can not wait for the plethora of celebrities to blame AI for their cancelable-posts on X. It's going to become the new supplements excuse. "I unknowingly let AI write my post for me, and for that, I apologize."

Hard pass on this. To be honest I can't think of anything I want AI to do for me on my phone or any computer really. I'm sick of computers guessing what I want to do incorrectly. I'd just rather do it myself. Texting is already impersonal enough, adding AI composition to it just defeats the purpose. If you can't be bothered to type a message yourself then don't send it ffs.

I would use AI for business correspondence, since I'm illiterate at business double talk. "Per my previous email..." "Let's circle back..." Wut?!😣

I would never trust AI to write to people I like.🤗

Haha. That would be good for PR Teams. Just blame AI.

Asked Siri this on the watch, "What is the temperature feeling like outside right now?"
"Sorry, I can only answer 1 question at a time."

hm...
Correct answer should be showing the perceived temperature.
So, would I let Siri help to write anything? Sounds like a hard pass.

I tried that but I needed Siri to read it back what it just dictated, it’s been known to get it wrong. o_O

I wonder if Apple will retire the Siri name when they roll out generative AI. Siri is so embarrassingly bad and tainted as a technology brand name.
It's still a name that most people know. It would probably be easier to educate people about an overhauled, improved Siri than it would be to build that same level of recognition and cultural cache again from scratch.

But this is also the company that's stuck on jumbling the same handful of words for every product, so I trust they can still make some unfathomably bad naming decisions.
