Get a job.. If my parents bought me an iPad, that would have been the last and only thing I would ever get.

last time i checked McDonnell's doesnt care

I think McDonalds doesn't care if you don't have documentations and come here illegally (a.k.a government doesn't know you're here)

If you're actually on F1 student visa, that means the government knows you're in this country and your whereabouts (addresses are tracked via International Student offices in respective Colleges/Institutions). When I was in F1 visa I don't even want to gamble my status here by trying to apply for jobs outside my campus.

Not only you're jeopardizing your student status, but if you get deported you probably won't get any more US tourist/work visa forever.

I love how so many people act like it's so easy to maintain a job in college.

If you're working enough in college to afford an iPhone 4 and iPad you're probably not getting the most out of your education. I couldn't even afford my textbooks or rent with an on-campus job.

That being said, however, OP you shouldn't lie to your parents and you definitely should not split a phone bill with friends because that will be a mess. Just wait to get it as a gift. If they gave you an iPad I'm sure they'd be open to getting you an iPhone when the time is right.

Why don't you just tell your parents about the FAN discount, say you made a mistake getting the iPad, return it or sell it (on craigslist) and buy an iPhone? Having both together is just way to much redundancy anyways.

the last thing my parents gave me was $100 cash on my 18th birthday.. that was 5 years ago..

you should be happy with what you got son

get a job.. I started working at 15 and I don't want my parents buying me ****.. wtf is your problem

What do you really know? If you know how to add more hours to my week please tell me because I spend the vast majority of my time in class or studying.

I know I took from 15-21 hours my all my college career and never worked less than 20 hours a week, a good part of the time I worked full time. Not much got done those years but work and school, but it is amazing what you can do when you have to pay for it yourself.

and in case you are wondering graduated with a 4.0

This is really stupid and childish topic to discuss, but I just wanna know what you all guys would do in my situation.
When the iPad came out, my parents told me to either choose iPhone or iPad for my college gift and I opted for the iPad because iPhone 3GS didn't really appealed a lot to me and it had really high phone bills.

However, as one may expected, now I ALSO want the iPhone 4.
What can I do with this human desire haha
I will cut to the chase now. I need to lie to my parents to get the iPhone 4 now. Gladly, I found out about the FAN discount recently, so my phone bill is going to stay almost the same(high $40s). If I can get some friends to join the family plan, I can make my bills a little bit cheaper. My parents don't know about the existence of FAN discount, so there is just no way that they will figure out at all.

What would you do in this situation?
The main reason that I want iPhone 4 is because I am sick of carrying my phone and iPod touch at the same time..
If you wouldn't get caught, will you lie to get the iPhone 4
Does iPhone 4 worth that much?

I know some people might bash me that the iPhone 4 is ''just the phone'' but Iam sure that my iPhone will be more than ''just the phone''
Haha thanks for reading my long and stupid story.

:)

Oh by the way, some people might tell me to get a part time job and pay off myself, but I'm an
international student in the US so I'm not eligible to work in the US. My parents aren't even living in the US which makes them even harder to figure out if I'm lying about my phone bills or not. Am I bad kid? :(

You should get used to going without. You may be able to sponge of your parents now. But given the intelligence level you're demonstrating, your future is going to be cash strapped.

Lie, cheat and do whatever you have to do to get what you want...

Wait are you a politician? Hell with this type of attitude you could run for President here soon. Better yet, I would put in a request for some of that free Obama money... I hear he's gonna take care of everyone.

I hear this forum is great for political argument...

As I said earlier in this thread:
You are in college so that you can maximize your learning experience. The reason why you are paying a premium over other forms of extended education is because it gives you the opportunity to engage in challenging research, meet and work with some of the brightest minds in the industry, and to develop and expand your network. If you are just going to spend the bare minimum amount of time to get by in classes and then spend the rest of your time working for money then you would be better off expanding your education through different means as you aren't making the most of your college one.

If all you got out of it was "I got a 4.0" then you haven't gotten much out of college at all.

Being a Parent, i wouldnt buy it for you anyways. You made your choice and what do you mean you have to carry your iPod AND your phone? Im sure you have a phone that plays music. Sell something and buy it yourself.

Have you missed the excessive outsourcing that companies here are doing? I'm sure the percentage of international students that study here and leave is minute compared to the percentage of jobs lost to outsourcing.

its pretty silly to be angry over whether they stay to work or not. besides, if they do, you'd hear more people complaining about foreigners stealing US jobs.

And you can thank politicians from a certain side of the aisle that tax the hell out of corporations and essentially force them to outsource their jobs.

@Vegastouch

Amen, doesn't deserve for even considering lying.

More jobs were outsourced when a certain "fiscally conservative" party controlled the White House and Congress. This corporate tax nonsense is nauseatingly dishonest.

Is he an international student going to school in the US? If so, he can get a part time job.

I was on F1 visa until recently. As far as I know, F1 students can only get part time jobs employed by his/her campus. I worked as teaching assistant and campus dining hall myself but those are definitely not enough to pay for iPhone+AT&T services heh... I had to do several other things and manage my money properly. I think I posted my initial response back on page 2.

Really.... Because I actually believe when a certain "socially aware" party took control of the house and senate, and began to shove "eco-friendly taxes" down large business' throats it became too expensive for them to continue to produce here in America.

Honestly, 2 weeks of working minimum wage part time gives you enough money to buy one... I'd say just work for it if the rents wont fork it over.
