lol, if YOU cant handle both, then that really sucks for YOU.

I maintain a 3.9 GPA, deans list honor, semester after semester, while working 35+ hours a week.

I'm getting more out of my education than most people, and I am paying for school as well as my apt, car, phone, cable, computers, etc etc etc, on my own. (as i am sure many other responsible college students are doing)

Exactly. While I've graduated from college already, I maintained a job, worked my way up to VP in a student organization, found time to volunteer, study and maintain friends. Do people actually go to college and just go to class?

It is not difficult and you find a way especially when you don't come from a family who can't afford to pay for all of life's luxuries.

I think Matt has clearly outlined his schedule in previous posts.

He is in campus from 8am-6pm everyday and working on his class projects over the weekend. I don't think there is enough time for him to work 35 hours+ per week like you.
Unless he is willing to sleep at 2am everyday and wake up at 7am the next day to get to class at 8 in the morning. I hear less than 8 hours sleep is terrible.

I think if your parents can support you, you shouldn't subject yourself for that kind of lifestyle. Clearly his parents can support him and I don't blame him for not wanting to sleep 5 hours everyday.

PS: Different people + different major of studies + different rigor in each colleges + different learning styles = Probably shouldn't mock other people of what they can/willing to do during their studies

In case you missed what I was responding to, it was this:

"If you're working enough in college to afford an iPhone 4 and iPad you're probably not getting the most out of your education. "

So, yes, I will mock what he can/can't do since he is making a generalized statement that is insulting to many of us that CAN do exactly what he is talking about.

I work 7am-4pm, go to class, 5pm-11:15pm, do homework late at night and on weekends. I haven't had more than 6 hours of sleep since middle school. (Honestly, people that do more than 1 thing with their life can't honestly get 8 hours of sleep every night.)

Anyone in HS that played a sport didn't even get 8 hours.. practice at 6am, school 730-3, practice/games till 6,7,8,9pm or later, then homework - and repeat.

Who cares about Matt (sorry Matt)

Matt's only "guilty" of making a comparison to himself and now people are latching onto him/that discussion instead of commenting or responding to the OP and his scenario.

Not defending Matt - but the thread is now just a back and forth of something "off topic"

I think you should tell your parents what you are doing, and how you've found a way to subsidize it. As long as they don't have to pay more than they are already paying for phone service, I cannot see why they'd find your idea unreasonable.

If you were asking for extra money, and lying to get it, I would think differently.

Would you lie to your parents to get an iPhone? The threshold for a lie is very low for for some and high for others. The answer to this question is determined by the integrity of the person. The phone is just an attempt to justify selfish behavior.

If you have to ask, then you probably already know it's NOT the right thing to do to lie to your parents for an iPhone, otherwise, you would've already done so. You're already getting more than a lot of people can dream of, going to college in other country, and got an iPad from your parents. Don't be greedy and live up to the decision that you've made, chose the iPad over the iPhone.

So you are offended because it is my personal opinion that getting a job in college for the sole purpose of purchasing an iPad or iPhone 4 or whatever is misguided? I never said I don't approve of people who work to pay for things by themselves like rent, cable, food, etc. I just don't think it makes sense to tell someone to get a job to pay for an iPhone if you don't know their situation, and I love how my personal situation has inflamed so many of you when the only person you should be mad at is my college for providing me with the scholarships and financial aid so that I can just focus on studying and working on projects.

Honestly, I think you all have some serious issues you need to work out in yourselves before you post about other people. You're miserable and unfortunately for you, I work hard and am happy with the way things are going so please stop proving stuff to us because NO ONE is impressed.

I apologize if anyone thought I was trying to impress with my posts as well because I was just trying to show how quite often college students I know are far too busy going to class and doing extracurriculars to even think about a job.

This is correct.

MATT-
I'd hate to be a downer here, but film school is a waste of time! I did it (but still had time to work so I don't know what kind of program you're on) and learned very quickly it's not about what you know - it's about who you know. I'm sure you have learned that by now. You'd be better off getting some life experience and working a little while going to school.

I've done multiple unpaid internships over the summers and have some very valuable contacts. I'd still like to get a degree and my business minor is really important to me.

Lying is a big fail!

If you're an international student in the US. No point in you trying to get a US AT&T contract, as I'm sure that you have to be a US citizen anyway...

But either way, save up, and don't be childish by defrauding your parents out of their hard earned money.

"for the sole purpose of purchasing an iPad or iPhone 4 or whatever is misguided?" - most of us have jobs to live - we also happen to be able to buy things we want (IE: iphone 4) -

You saying that people aren't getting the most out of their education because they work is an insult. Just because your work ethic cant support work and education, doesn't mean everyone else is the same.

"You're miserable" - I am actually completely happy with the balance I have struck. I work a job as a student that almost every one of my classmates are jealous of. I already work in the field that I am studying for, I live on my own, and I still am doing exceedingly well in school. Pretty sure there isn't anything better that I could do. But, yea, you're right. I'M miserable. Poor me, with my great job, and my iphone, ipad and laptops that i bought with my own money, and my awful deans list letters. man.. how do i get up every morning?

Btw.. nobody is trying to "impress" you. We are simply stating facts that completely negate your asinine assumptions about other students.

Then again, you go to USC and are most likely spoiled as hell.

That was mildly amusing twenty years ago. Grow up.

4.0 GPA and 1 of 44 kids that made it in the graphic design program at ASU (out of 250)... yeah, I'm a retard. My family doesn't have the $ to send me to USC (or even ASU... good thing I've got my scholarships), nor would I ever have any interest in going there.

USC is need-blind in their admissions and have great financial support for accepted students. Sounds like someone just couldn't cut it at USC, and that's not anything to be ashamed about, seriously. It just becomes pathetic when you start to justify it to everyone else by spouting off stats and trite insults.

It's this kind of attitude that is the reason why I absolutely despise most people who go to USC. The whole "I'm better than you" ******** is ridiculous.

Well, we are for the most part.

I never said that having a job in college to support yourself was a bad thing. I said that advising a college student to get a job just to afford an iPhone 4 is not sound advice. That's just my opinion.

And yes, you are miserable (probably because you couldn't get into USC if you tried given your unsound logic and people skills). Just look at the tone of my posts and others versus yours. You are miserable.

My work ethic is very good brother. As I have said many many times and others have asked those attacking me to READ, my schedule in college doesn't permit me to have a job. I wish I could work, but I don't have the physical time. USC gave me the best awards package out of any school I applied (actually no, Northwestern gave me a full ride) so I went to USC to pursue what I love and spend all my time building my career in college without getting a job and stressing more than my situation requires just to go on MacRumors one day and tell everyone how amazing I am that I worked so hard and have all my laptops and iPhones so I can get on MacRumors and tell as many virtual friends as possible how great I am.

I take what I said before back, most people are clearly very jealous of USC and enjoy making fun of its students (including those like me that are on academic scholarship and financial aid who are very far from spoiled).

It's not my fault you didn't get in, and it's definitely not my fault that I'm smarter and more polite than you. Don't attack me when you literally fabricated a spoiled persona out of me just for your entertainment.

I think you need to get another job to occupy your miserable time. ;)

Fight On!

Well, we are for the most part.

Badandy knows what he is talking about, unlike most of the clowns sitting around trying to prove their worth through material objects. Sad sacks of ****.

I had to rofl reading this. If you are going to lie mark sure ts something that needs to be lied about and not a tech toy. Firm believer in what goes around comes around and so save doing bad stuff for when it really has to be done. Or get some form of trade job. Mow lawns or something. Heck for what they charge around here three yards and it would almost be paying for your phone bill. And i cant remember the last time i asked the hs/college kid that wants to mow my lawn for even an id.

My girlfriend did the same thing while going to one of the best schools in her field. Never had to lie or cheat to get to where she is in life or the things she wants. Not everyone can do it, but the OP shouldn't make excuses for doing something pretty despicable to his parents. The people defending his behavior should be ashamed, as well.

The OP's life must be so hard trying to carry a phone and an iPod Touch at the same time.
