There’s not a thing that 3D Touch offers more quickly ‘of value’, as opposed to me doing it myself. I’d write it off as 99% gimmick if not for the feature allowing me to place the curser where I want for editing purposes. That aside, I’ve found it pointless and useless.
While it appears Face ID is here to stay, I would take Touch ID embedded in the screen in a heartbeat. Face ID has been average at best for me and that’s with use at good angles. So often I go to use my phone in bed or while it’s lying flat on my desk with no hope of getting in with the simple tap of a finger. Every single time I must pick up the phone to look at it, which is a pain in the a—. Add in the unnecessary swipe up and it’s become one of my less desired features. Kudos to those who love 3D Touch and Face ID. I’m glad you do. I’m simply not a fan or either.

Touch ID over gimmicks like Face ID and 3D Touch which is rumored to be removed in future devices. Federal level authentication uses fingerprint or Iris scanning or combination of for MFA.

That’s not exactly true about 3D Touch, actually as it’s been rumored to have a simulated version of 3D Touch for the 6.1 LCD iPhone, but we don’t know the fate of for the 5.8/6.5 iPhone X.

On screen Touch ID - no question.

Strange. You would rather have on screen touch ID with something that you have _no_ experience with, not knowing the drawbacks or any potential issues? (I.e, Accuracy rates, battery drain and screen protector misreadings) Let alone, it seems that other smart from manufacturers like Samsung have even been rumored to encounter manufacturing struggles with implementing a fingerprint sensor under the display. I Find it interesting that somebody would want something that they have no idea or any experience with to make a validated opinion on technology that’s not really leading anywhere currently with the more notable smart phone manufacturers, not that your opinion doesn’t matter, but not sure how you can say “No question”.

I use 3D Touch all the time. I know many think it's useless technology or not productive. But I find it to be useful in a sense how I can shortcut applications versus navigating through entire app. It also allows me to peek/pop for e-Mails/messages. It's convenient and provides quicker access. The only downside is not all third-party applications support 3D Touch.

Same. I’ve been on an SE for a few weeks since I sold my 8 Plus to upgrade. I miss the hell out of 3D touch, most notably on lock screen notifications.

I haven't had any issues with Touch id other then you can lay on a pillow. It won't recognize your face.

I don't understand how iPhone users don't enjoy 3d touch? I use it everyday from my lock screen
I’ve tried to get the hang of it. But just can’t. The only thing I use it for is to turn the flashlight on from the Lock screen that’s it tho

I would. Anything is better then Face ID, especially when laying in bed.

I’m almost 100% positive that they will remove 3D Touch because I’ve seen a lot of rumors stating that, and Apple has added long press to the non 3D Touch devices. Such as the SE, seems like to me they are working away from 3D Touch. And the new 6.1 inch won’t have it either.
I think it’s a feature reserved for top tier iPhone and iPads. If it’s on the Xs Plus this year, that will mean Apple isn’t moving away from the technology.

You mean like peek and pop? Which can't be done easily or quickly any other way.
I’m sorry, I guess ‘of value’ should have been added for clarification since peek and pop, while quick, adds zero value to my experience. I just went and did it to my most used apps. Nothing worthwhile from the feature to me.

I personally would love 3D Touch to stay. If for nothing else than the cursor while pressing into the keyboard. I use that SOOOOOO much.

Unless I'm mistaken, you're going off the recent patent right?

It makes no sense for Apple to say that FaceID > Touch ID, but in-screen TouchID > FaceID. They also patent stuff they don't implement into their devices, so it could very well be that.

At most, the best way to do this would be to have both options in the same device so users can use whichever they prefer, but that is very un-Apple like.

I’m giving it a more honest try since you’ve made mention of it. Sometimes I’m too quick to judgement. I used it on Spotify and Messages today. Thanks for the insight!

Your post is a great example of why 3D Touch is a useful feature, but many consumers have *no* idea what it does or what apps actually support 3D Touch capabilities. They simply never know to force touch the application to see what it will shortcut to navigate quicker. And as an Apple supporter, I can confidently say this is failed marketing on Apples behalf, which if they would have marketed 3D Touch more properly, more consumers would understand exactly how to use it and discover its capabilities through other applications through third-party developers.

I see 3D Touch being very useful, but also like Live Photos, it’s just another feature that many have no idea what it does or how to use it, unfortunately.

You are right there. 3D Touch is a fail on Apple’s part purely because they didn’t market it well enough, or at all really apart from at the keynote. Making new features easier for users to discover and use is something they used to be good at, I really don’t know what happened there. It could be implemented a lot better but they also could’ve simply showed a little video (similar to how they show how to use the trackpad gestures in Mac OS) when setting iOS up for the first time showing how to use it in every scenario. I can’t believe they didn’t do something like that and just expect users to know it’s there assuming they watched the keynote which the average joe doesn’t. I’m not surprised they don’t even know it exists, and even if they do it’s not implemented well enough even for a techie like me to know when to use it and what apps actually do use it without needing to figure it all out for myself.
