since we have the same model i'll mention two things I did of note; one is that I used disk utility to re-partition (non-destructively) the drive into the normal partition and a 30GB "free space" partition to extend the life of the SSD. That way even if I fill it to the brim, it's not really filled up (and those extra cells can be used as spares in the long run). I also bought the "Transcend 330 lite 128GB" storage adapter that custom fits the SD card slot on the 13" 2015 macbook pro for 74$ (less than the price of the upgraded 512GB ssd, relatively), and that fits perfect esp. since I never really use the slot. I have all my music available, but not taking space on the precious SSD. It's kinda silly to have such a fast drive then fill it with data that will never change (and so you've found my OCD issue, lol)

happy computing -os

I bought a Jetdrive when I first got a 128gb rMBP, great little device and does take burden from the SSD for things that just don't benefit from speed. Still use it on my 256gb.

I have decided to swap the mac.

Wise decision. I had to replace my Macbook Air 2 times before it was perfect. First time the screen were dark-grey at the bottom, the second time a key on the keyboard was stuck. As far as I read, the final inspection on the Macbook Pros is better than the MBAs. My new MBP which I have received last week was perfect right the first time.

New rMBP turned up today, fitted with the A029 Panel. Overall very happy with it which is a relief! The display is a lot better than the A02A panel I had last time... The screen is brighter and the whites seem very neutral, warmer than my old uMBP, and cooler than my GF's rMBP, which also has a A02A panel. Brightness across the panel is even, and so are colours thankfully. I left a checkered image on the screen for 25-30 mins and as far as I can tell no IR :D

There are few annoyances - a couple of dark vertical bands which are only visible on darker greys (I guess the back lighting is a bit uneven) and a couple of cosmetic blemishes straight out the box... Still I think I can live with that, seeing as I've already lost a weeks worth of work with the return process!

First of all, congrats to your new rMBP. ;) Can you make some photos of the minor problems? I would be interested in that. I am a little annoyed about the horizontal viewing angels while editing photos.

Turns out the dark streaks might have been ghosting... Very strange because they lasted about a day. Maybe shouldn't have left the test image on so long! I'm happy at least because they're gone... I'll just have to make sure I'm a little careful not leaving anything static too long. Definitely not worth swapping it again. The white point on the LG panel I have is better than most I've seen, this especially noticeable in the whites and greys. I spend most of my time in InDesign or Photoshop, the last panel was very warm and quite annoying!

Cosmetically there are 2 small scratches and small flecks here and there. Not really worried about that in the long run, I'm sure there will be a lot more in the future!

If I add +200 to the white point (~6700 over 6500 stock) and adjust colors with "expert" settings using that apple logo thing and adjustment sliders, it looks quite nice and the colors has lovely pop and saturation. 2.2 gamma as well.

You calibrated it to your tastes so what's the problem, are you hoping for a different screen that won't be calibrated as nicely? And if you calibrate that screen what do you think the difference will be in real world usage?

Does your screen type have an elevated number of failures?

A029 is renowned for being the "poorer" screen (Usually, some are good).

Return and replace until happy.

Hey Guys so after going through hell with Apple Care since the past 5 months and having being stuck with uneven tinted screens especially screens of the 2014 model. I decided to mail Tim Cook about it and to my surprise I got Apple Executive Relations on board..... To cut the story short they are going to provide me with 2015 13inch RMBP since I reside in a country where there is no apple store, the machine will be shipped from singapore.

Coming on to this thread and my horrific history with my previous screens of the 2014 model A020. I am scared what if I land up with a screen that has problems, I guess reading these threads has just made me overly paranoid, sometimes it's better to be in the dark.

But I can't help but wonder that if something is wrong I cant even return the machine since it's shipped from another country and I had to go through hell to get this replacement in the first place. I wrote a 7438 word complaint letter

Reading this thread am I supposed to hope for the A02A screen or the A029?
Which is the good one out of the lot?
I still cant believe it so many of these screens are still defective, looking at users posting pictures out here and apple doesn't do anything about it.

I just pray this time I land up with a good screen.

My model is the 256gb ssd one so which screen does that come with anyway?

Welcome to this thread (which incidentally 99.9% of us are satisfied with either the replacement we received or got a good screen first time). The screen you ideally want is the A02A. Though this isn't even going to guarantee you a good screen, statistically people with A02A are very happy and most people who received an A029 returned it.

That's not to say though that you can get a good A029 and a bad A02A because that has happened on this thread.

So long story short you're ideally after the A02A.

Hey! Thanks so much for your prompt reply.
It's so much easier if you're ignorant about it.
I think this thread has created a mental block, like now if I get a A029 screen and even if its good i'll think it is bad because of the comments regarding it.

I'm kinda scared now if I get the A029 screen I will just have to accept it as this time literally I cant do anything about it. It took me 5 months to get this one replacement so I dont expect another one at all.

Again I'm aware that only users with problems come and report here and I'm sure there are people who have those "perfect" screens.

Also on this thread I saw in most of the pictures with the faulty screens happen to be the UK models

I know one thing for sure the screens that ship with your computer are better than the ones you get if you had to replace the screen component... correct me if i'm wrong!

Like I said I have seen a fair few good A029s so it does happen.

I remember reading on a similar thread on I believe Apple Discussions that say if you had an A029 screen and it got replaced by Apple with an A02A screen, the Mac is still calibrated for the A029 and won't look right, which I can see that being a thing.

Let's just pray that the screen is uniform and doesnt suffer from any problems. I'll just have anxiety for another month until it arrives now :/.

Well, That can't be true as I'm sure Apple calibrates the computer everytime they replace a screen.

Honestly if you are someone who is picky about displays (which you are, as am I) then I don't think you're going to be satisfied with either type. I have had 5 of the 2015 13" MBPs and tried both screen types A029 and A02A. My current machine is an A02A and I hate it so it doesn't guarantee anything. But I'm sure 99% of people would be fine with it. It's just if you know what you're looking for it is really yellow, compared to any other display. The A029 are generally brighter (as in literally not in a colour sense), but I have found them to be much more uneven in the yellow tint. The A02A is much more uniform but the ones I have owned are uniformly yellow. I'd say be happy that you have been given a free upgrade to a 2015 model and accept a less than perfect screen, it's still great resolution wise. Or if the screen is non-negotiable sell it when you receive it and cut your losses.

That's BS. Most people are happy with both displays because they have less professional demands, less technical skills and, thus, do not even notice these small glitches. Your views are biased because of the people that meet here at macrumors. I've got the "bad" screen A029 and I'm happy with it. And that was the first rMBP I've ordered. I'm doing a lot of professional photo editing and the screen is fine, which means it has no yellow tint, is even and has no backlight bleeding. So please, don't make people worry or paranoid. There are more perfectly fine displays out there than you think.

I'm glad to hear that, I think that coming on these threads have just gotten excessively paranoid now even if I wasn't looking or aware of any issue I would be looking for them due to this. I just hope I get a good screen whatever the model might be

Statistically, the data available in this thread and in this forum do not provide a reasonable basis for any conclusion at all about these screens.

I went through 5 rMBP 2015. Two A029, three A02A.

The A029 is really brighter than the A02A. I got both side by side.

To be honnest, the best I had was an A029 : excellent backlight uniformity, very good color uniformity, no IR. The only issue was the battery wasn't glued properly.

The worst I had was an A02A. Awful backlight bleed, yellow tint on the left...

The actual is a bit yellow (except in the top right area), but it's acceptable to me. And honnestly, after four exchanges, I gave up !

I absolutely did not say every single A029 is a bad screen (I even mentioned this in my reply). I said after reading all posts on here that that (Coming from maybe 25 people?) the A029 tends to be the poorer screen of the 2. With virtually no complaints with the A02A (Odd one or 2)

I am glad you're happy with your A029, I was not and so were a number of others. That is all I was basing my original response on.

I have the new 15 in rMBP. How do I find out which screen I have? Thanks in advance.

This has been widely mentioned before....

So here we go again: Go to System Preferences, then Display, click on Color and then on Open Profile.

I wanted to ask is a minimum back light bleed normal? Like it's only visible in a pitch dark room at 100% brightness .does any one with the 2015 model not have backlight??

Any IPS screen is going to have noticeable bleed in a dark room with the display turned up to 100% - that is normal.
