replacement arrived.

A018 screen if it makes any difference, and it appears warm still but not comparably tobacco tinged.

PiU8t4S.jpg

No image retention in running the 10 minute check board test, looks warmer on the right too it's not real IRL. Same with that weird purple look on my 6+ on left side running vertically, not the case IRL. exposure off with iPad, its just to get a sense of color temperature. it looks SIGNIFICANTLY less washed out too skimming through stock wallpapers.

The keyboard, unless its placebo, feels punchier and clickier too, I appreciate that!

and samsung SSD as well.

Only on hour one of using the machine, but this might be a keeper :D

Nice. :)

its definitely got a bit of a red look to it, especially compared my cool blue iPad to it in the darkness, but its no less intense in terms of the tint showing through when comparing, and I think its A LOT less jarring and more stunning than my other one was. Even looking at the Mavericks installer window from the bootable drive, it looked far less meh and more pristine for lack of a better explanation.

Definitely not placebo. My current machine has way better key travel than the refurb I returned.

Apple's QC is pretty bad these days.

yeah i didn't think so either, I've known apple to be crap and a gamble. I've known this for all too long and its painful as a "fan."

Loving this screen honestly. better outdoors too (hammock surfing right now :D its FRIDAY/weekend !!!)

Fairly certain this is a Samsung too (but doesn't really matter, my eyes love this panel and so glad I didn't have to swap this thing out a psychotic amount of times on paper):
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18273789/

also, appears refurb store is out of stock of the 2.6/8/256 model I got ($1149 one).

FWIW, completely unrelated, this one shipped from California other one was PA.

:D

also unrelated: refurb stamp date on the side of the box was january 22 or something, this one is february 12

I did.

The retina on my 15in went out and I had to have it replaced and it was replaced by a more yellowish screen made by LG.

Both screens are fine and some may even prefer the yellow LG screen, but since I was so used to the less yellow Samsung screen, I had to get it replaced again because it was really bothering me.

And you lucked out with the 2nd replacement?

direct comparison since the other screenshots are on the other page and you have to flip between them:

Left A020, Right A018. YMM-very much-V

screen lottery, 2015 edition (of the mid-2014 model, which I hear persists on early 2015 as well). sigh..

at least I'm done with my search, knock on wood.

this screen is just an absolute delight.

Satisfied as heck, I lucked out  I am really picky with my devices screen cause I'm staring at it all day.

Dunno how apple manages to continue using crap screens on premo products, going largely unnoticed by most

I'll probably hold onto this machine longer than my 2011 Air which I had for 3.5 years almost

same thing with my air, lucked out first time and got a screen I could deal with but its non retina and TN nature got old over time. The LG version I saw in stores always looked washed to me too, immediately. Regardless of which manufacturer is in my device (which I believe to be Samsung, reminds me more of my Air than the washed out previous one did with LG stuff I've seen but doesn't matter) the difference is staggering. Using Color LCD profile and it looks REALLY nice, good anyways because calibrated is good too but not representative of what most people see web content wise, etc. who don't calibrate/dont know how to.

Same boat

I feel your pain OP. Glad you are happy with your screen finally. I am on my 3rd 2015 rMBP 13". My first 2 had noticeable pink screen tint, my current (3rd) one is much less obvious than the prior ones, but there is a bit of uneven uniformity on the left side of the screen as the photo shows. There was only one perfectly white 13" Pro at my store out of all the 13" on display (edit- at the table I was at). I also note that the 2nd unit I tried had a very loud / clickety keyboard and shallower travel compared to the first one and my current one. I still have a genius bar appointment for tomorrow morning but may cancel it. I think I'm way too OCD about finding the perfect screen, I'm sure they will tell me they don't see any issue with mine. Sadly will probably just settle for mediocrity and move on. :(

.... Looking at your first rMBP it looked more accurate stock then your new one. You're iPhone looks very blue.

You can "calibrate" all you like, but unless you're using instrumentation it's going to be off. Brightness and Contrast (Black Level and White Level) can be calibrated by eye. But grayscale, and color really needs to be done with an instrument+software.

More often then not when someone sees a screen calibrated to sRGB they think it looks warm, till you get used to it. Then you're able to see how horrible most screens are, and how people prefer that "vivid" looks.

Calibrating your display (anything for that matter) requires you putting it to a standard, whatever that standard is. You're personal preference is not really a "standard", and is technically wrong. With that said it is your computer and you set it how ever you wish. But don't say something is defective when you really have no way of knowing unless you purchase a colorimeter or spectrophotometer,

It looked like crap to me and was irritating.

This one doesn't.

Sure you can calibrate but again most people don't so web content isn't "accurate" in that sense. And this one looks way more pleasing to me. Also warmer screen doesn't necessarily mean more accurate or better colors. It could if the panel is nice and it's just a bit off but that one was weird.

It's personal preference though if you like dingy you like dingy. Even the colors were washed

I do apologize if I am hijacking this thread. I too am experiencing uniformity issues. I purchased my first 2015 RMBP about two weeks ago from Best Buy and it had a flawless screen (bright whites and no yellow tint whatsoever) however I exchanged it for a replacement as the machine creaked whenever I put both hands on the surface or when I had it sitting on my lap. The second unit had a yellow tint toward the bottom of the screen and I went back and exchanged it for a third unit yesterday. My third unit does not really have a yellow tint per say however the left side is slightly dimmer/warmer compared to the right side and bothers the heck out of me when I am web surfing or typing a document. According to the COLOR LCD profile, I have a 0000A02A screen which I assume is made by Samsung? I don't know if my particular Best Buy store has a bad batch or something and I've considered going to another location in town to get it exchanged however they are currently out of stock of 2015 RMBP's. What do you guys think I should do? I heard that if you exchange high value items at Best Buy too many times they will ban you from returns/exchanges for 90 days. Thanks!

I'm not sure three exchanges would flag you necessarily, I'd assume it would have to be more-- these are mass manufactured devices.

Never heard of A02a, that one's a mystery to me. I think A020/A018 are the more commonly spotted ones.

Not hijacking at all, either :D

if you need proper color calibration you should be plugging it into an external monitor
you should also own a colorimeter

Here is what I got from the color profile:

Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 0000A02A
Serial Number: 00000000
Manufacture Date: CF3C1980

I should have stuck with my first unit :( Also forgot to mention that when I went and exchanged it yesterday, the customer service rep initially refused to exchange as he nor the store's Apple rep was unable to see the yellow tint. If I do exchange it at Best Buy again I will probably have to go to another store as they will probably recognize me lol.

Edit: My current RMBP looks like jlp2979's pic above.

I think I'd rather have a white screen and uneven tint than even and REALLY yellow

but, if on the fence, put another on a credit card and return the lesser of the two?

I was kinda frightened shipping back my first one before getting the replacement, just in case it was somehow worse.

phew, so glad to be done with this crap. probably not going to upgrade forever now since i know how annoying it is to get a good one historically

Kind of hard to see due to the light reflection off of your screen but yeah I think I see what you're talking about toward the left side. Up to you. I also look at documents and white screens often so uneven screen would annoy me. It's your hard earned money, you should be satisfied with your purchase.

I ended up exchanging mine again today at Apple store and genius was super cool about it. My current (4th one) is by far the best I've gotten and the keyboard is nice and quiet so it's a keeper.

As for Best Buy and exchanges, if you do go back ask the the cashier prior to doing the exchange if an additional exchange will put you on that 90 day list. I exchanged 5 iPads a couple years ago for screen issues and I was fine, so chances are you will be too.

Here's a photo of my current screen. My model number in color profile is A029 btw.

I see. It looks like there is a yellow tint on the right side of your screen. Is it less pronounced in real life?

No yellow tint in real life my photos just turned out like that for some reason. That's why it's so hard to judge others' displays based on photos. If yours looks bad to your eyes then you should try to exchange it until you get one that looks good based on what you see.

I see. Great! I think I will get an exchange (will be my fourth one) at the other Best Buy in town once they have them in stock.

Thanks again for the help guys!

My current RMBP also wobbles as well. It is almost as if the rubber feet isn't making contact with my table. :(

Hey I have been experiencing similar issues.

I first had the amazing A018 screen but my computer would creak so I got the screen replaced and ended up with 3 A020 screens following. The first was uneven so I got it replaced then after that I ended up with a screen which was a little warm but the service center scratched it so I got it replaced again and then finally the screen I have now. I haven't compared it with another screen but the google bar and typically the #f1f1f1 color seems to be yellowish grey, the color changes with the angle of the display, except for that the screen seems to be fine.

I tried calibrating it with the inbuilt calibrator but no help!

That yellowish greyness is driving me nuts!!!!
Except for that the screen seems to be fine.
Any Suggestions?

I don't have genius bars but only authorized service centers and the Apple Care in my country is rude and they don't understand anything.

I had this issue on my second unit. :(

Turns out the newer 2015 RMBP's have a 0000A02A screen.

The screen color will shift just a bit when you view it at an angle but the degree could be abnormal in your case, I don't know. Could you bring it into a service center without setting up a repair and see what they say? Otherwise I'd just re-contact AppleCare, as unpleasant as that may be in your area.
