There's no point in having the iphone without data in my opinion. You're better off getting a free razr or whatever instead of spending 199 or 299 or more for the iphone and not fully use it. That makes you a poser :D

I disagree.

What if I use my cell phone for texting, making calls, and I don't want to carry around an iPod at the same time?

I think there are ALOT of people who would purchase an iPhone for this purpose, but who won't pay the $30 or even $20 for the data plan.

What is the point of carrying around an iPod touch and a regular cell phone? Why not carry around an iPhone w/o the data?

Apple is missing the boat here big time, but I suspect it is AT&T who is blocking this.

I think you would sell more more iPhones w/o Data, than you would sell the mythical $99 iPhone Nano. It is the cost of the data plan that is stopping the next group of buyers, not the cost of the phone...

A poser?
I would most certainly use it w/o a data plan and let the 12 year olds call me a poser. :)

I voted yes, because I do use my iPhone without data. I am, however, fortunate enough to have WiFi available most of the time. If I didn't, my answer might change.

I would consider data if Rogers offered a better deal than their (now finished) 6GB/$30, or if that $30 plan included tethering, but until they get better pricing, I can live with WiFi.

They did recently introduce a decent value pack, but I'm smarting from the fact that they offer the same value pack to Blackberry users for $10/month less. I refuse to pay more for the same plan simply because I use an iPhone...

I would not get an iPhone without a data plan, but I can name 10 people I know for a fact would. They are sick of the POS generic Nokia and Samsung phone. One that I'm sure wants one is my father. He loves Apple, wants an iPhone, but is not all with the data plan idea and I don't blame him because he would not use it much at all. That's where I can see use in an iPhone Nano, same size, even same devise without the 3G radio, simply without the data plan = perfect solution.

So, I would always have a data plan on my iPhone, I know my dad and others would love a regular, nicely built Apple cell phone. It's not the upfront cost that deters them, it's the plan.

It is AT&T. You can easily get an iPhone without data on Rogers.

That's interesting. Are there other carriers in other countries that require the data, or is ATT the only one? Just curious...

I'm not sure why you would buy a smartphone and not use it as one....

I'd really like to use it as a PDA. I would only check my email occasionally. Wifi would be good enough. Personally, I check my email way too often anyways and don't need it popping up every 2 minutes while I'm out of the office

I personally wouldnt use it without data, the main reason i upgraded my iPod Touch to an iPhone was so I could get data everywhere

If there was no data plan at all I wouldnt have an iPhone

If I didnt want the data though, I would get the iPhone PAYG with 1 years free data, then just cancel this data plan after the year

Here in Sweden you don't need a data plan for the iPhone, the carrier dosen't force you.
And I actually don't have one I have wifi at home and I'm always infront of my laptop in school, so right now I don't need it however I might add it after summer when I more then likely will move and study somewhere else.
