I prefer a true case to a messenger, I would rather have enough room to carry everything I need.

The other day I was wearing a pink Lacoste polo shooting a SIIG at the range.

I assume you mean Sig. I've carried a Sig in a fanny pack for years, but I understand that is considered either somewhat fey or at least out of fashion. Regardless, it holds a full-size 9mm and spare mag nicely.

Back on topic, I used a Brenthaven messenger bag when I was transitioning from a 17" PB in a backpack to a 15" MBP, and sometimes had to carry both. It wasn't bad at all, but I prefer a backpack from an ergonomic standpoint. I never worried about how the bag looked, but then again it was black cordura, not really very showy.

I was shooting a Sig P226 (9) and a P229 (40). I personally would keep it in a holster on the inside of the waistband. But I digress, I have a black Brenthaven shoulder bag and it looks masculine. The reason why I like the shoulder bag is that I can wear it cross shoulder when I travel. With a backpack, someone can be pick pocket it without you even knowing.

I kid. It's a bag! Humans have used bags for I don't know . . . probably a long time. They're to carry stuff. Not gender-related.

This.

I had my first bag as a kid.

Got it a Hercules Sales, a war-surplus store in town, long gone now.

I guess you might call it a WWII ditty bag, fugly colour, but tough as nails.

To be honest, I've been - as matter of course - teasing all mates who carried the messenger bag for the last... oh god knows how long...

More as a jest than anything else.. If I got one, I'd cop it sweet...its only fair.

In any case, back-packs suit me more (they bloody better be :) )...

But as far as the OP is concerned, mate just carry the bloody thing.. don't worry about bastards like me... :)

Backpacks spread the weight over both shoulders if you have a lot to carry and you can slip them onto one shoulder if you haven't.

Manbags just make you look like a tryhard fashion victim and I don't see the practicality of having all that weight banging against your hip off a long strap as you walk. Some people believe in suffering for their art, however.

In short, just get whatever bag you want. I do what I want, so should you.

I rock a Louis Vuitton Petit Messager in the Terre color as a daily out bag (not for work) and love it, and so do all the ladies...look it up under E-shopping in the men's section, Men's Bags-->Messengers and Totes-->Damier Geant Canvas:

I wouldn't mind that bag if it didn't have Luis Vuitton Paris in such big letters. I prefer things to be a little more discreet, that's why I have the epi wallet instead of the monogram.

My wife was looking at the Brooklyn MM in Damier Ebene Canvas herself to carry her MBA and iPad2.

My camera bag is my backpack so I can't wear two backpacks even if I hang one on each shoulder. So when I am traveling, the camera backpack is on both shoulders with the shoulder bag cross shoulder.

I've been using a Wee Bee since 2003

Brilliant thing that has seen me through 2 laptops, university, a repeat visit to college, holidays in mainland Europe and Africa. Backpacks are too big for me. I like to be able to just swing it round and pull out whatever's necessary so I'm probably always going to stick to Crumpler's messenger bags now.
Not keen on those designer bags, I've no desire to be that metro!

I used one for school until recently when I replaced it with a rucksack because it had holes developing in it.

Personally, I wouldn't use a messenger bag, because I find them uncomfortable compared to a backpack.
Some people prefer messenger bags, and that's why choice exists :)

Wow, its funny what is considered a messenger bag, I have one but the pictures on here are nothing like mine.

It's the toughest bag I have ever had, and I got it specifically because i was sick of my backpacks breaking and only lasting a year. It's pretty big though, definitely not as small as some of the ones I've seen on here. And its made out of a waterproof canvas, so it's not as feminine as leather.

The only bags I would consider less masculine are those that looks closer to a purse than a bag.

sure i would

have several form timbuk2 and like mentioned above, they can take a beating. Mine have lasted many years. One is 10+ years old and still looks new.

i use the incase canvas back.

i have incase nylon massanger bag but not vrery often. there more fasionable than backpacks, no homo , lol, but backpacks are just more secure and dont flop around like massanger bags.
