So, here we go again with yet another complaint regarding the release date interfering with some who might have to wait a few short days to place an order to get yet another apple phone on contract. Goodness sakes people, don't you have a life outside of a cell phone, and can wait a little longer ? Just listen to yourself ranting about this. Look in the mirror and repeat what you just wrote. It's sad.

Don't worry, you will get the phone, just a bit longer.

This doesn't effect me, but you do know that last year, the iPhone sold out online in like 4 hours, and in stores in like a day, right? Many customers had to wait several months to get their iPhones afterwards.

----------

Were previous iPhones ACTUALLY backed up on orders for weeks and months? Like with evidence?

I walked Into my att store 3 days after the i5 launch, picked one up and left.

Yes, the last iPhone was backed up for months.

I understand Apple will probably unveil the iPhone 6 on September 9th.

The iPhone 5 was unveiled on September 12, 2012 and released on September 21, 2012. Many, many, many people are still under their 2-year commitment from the iPhone 5 or 5s.

It wouldn't make any sense for Apple to release the iPhone 6 before September 21st. The launch day sales would be terrible and the media would bash the product. It would also give people time to determine whether or not they really want it instead of buying on release day anyways.

Can someone please clear this up with me? It just wouldn't make much sense. Also, if apple were to allow pre-orders like the iPhone 5 before September 21st, would i still be eligible for the upgrade if it isn't released until after the 21st? Thanks.

I do understand what you're getting at but you do understand Apple uses this method all the time and it works. The 4s was released in October of 2011... The 5s was September of 2013 and it did record numbers. iPhone 6 sales will not be hurt

It has already been discussed countless times in this forum and the answer is the same year after year. If you are within a month the carriers will push your upgrade date up so those who are not eligible until late September should have nothing to worry about.

Today I checked my upgrade eligibility and it says I'm eligible for an upgrade at full discount. I ordered my iPhone 5 within the first 2 minutes of the pre-sale start.

Yes, my sister and mother ordered their iPhone 5 at around 4-5pm of the day of the pre-sale and they got their's until November, while mine got home the day it came out.

Many folks will be eligible for a new phone before September 21, and many of the folks queuing outside Apple store will be buying the phone at full retail price, at least in Europe.
I guess the launch date will be September 19 or 20, so during the week-end

Unless people have the iPhone 4/4S, or some older android device, they're likely still under a 2-year commitment plan and will have to pay $800+ for a iPhone 6... $800 or $200, apple is still likely earning the around the same profit... why not go for the $200 where MANY, MANY, MANY more people will be willing to buy it?

I couldn't careless [sic] when I get the iPhone 6 (or if i'll even buy one), i'm just trying to be rational here while people keep thinking the iPhone 6 is going to be released earlier than expected.

It may be "rational," but it's not logical, especially when there's so much precedent to go on. You go on and on with your theories and speculative data, and that's all well and good, but what most are getting at is that because there is no precedent for such actions, it's highly unlikely that your scenario will unfold, but time will tell.

It's almost guaranteed the initial shipments will be gone by the end of the first day. If someone wants an iPhone within a few days of launch chances are they're going to wait for an iPhone. If people can't upgrade until a few days later then it helps give Apple time to restock the stores. I think it may actually work out better for Apple - stagger the demand a little bit over the first week or so.

All that being said, I would imagine most carriers will allow early upgrades if they haven't already.

Yes, I'd assume a at leasts a couple of months to ship. One of my lines is eligible for an upgrade now, while the other is not eligible until October 5th, which doesn't make much sense. Both lines had the iPhone 5 on launch day (September 21st) with full discount upgrade.

Apple is a business. They want to make money, profits. One way to do that is to release a product when the most amount of people are eligible to.

Your theory has already been shattered. iPhones used to be launched as early as June.

iPhone June 29, 2007
iPhone 3G July 11, 2008
iPhone 3GS June 19, 2009
iPhone 4 Jun 24, 2010 this is almost a full month before a two year cycle with the 3G
iPhone 4S October 14, 2011
iPhone 5 September 21, 2012
iPhne 5S September 20. 2013 this is almost a full month before a two year cycle with the 4S

Online, yes. However, retail stocking has been pretty good the past couple of generations. I think the only iPhone that sold out on day 1 at retail stores in my area was the Gold iPhone 5s. The Space Gray and Silver 5s could still be found in-store Saturday to Monday although you might not have your choice of capacity.

I think retail stocking is going to depend on where you are located. I never had issues when I was living in Iowa. In New England the damn things were sold out well into the new year.

Makes a lot of sense that, where there is a higher population, there is also a higher demand.

Do people call vzw before they start posting? I have called them 2 separate times and both times the answer was the same... They told me they will upgrade me 7 days early (without even speaking to a manager) and with manager approval up to 14 days early. Do you really think verizon would risk loosing you as a customer by not letting upgrade 2 days early?

They know how crazy apply fans are and that a lot of people would drop them in a second.

Anyways, like said before. Chill out, you will be able to order on the 19th.

Really? Some people might like to wait for life to bring what's in store, but others prefer to take matters into own hands and change things if possible, even though this is something small is still the same concept. So, sad? I don't think so. Some people are not conformists and that is not sad at all. We are just different. ;)

I live in a highly populated location (Los Angeles area) but there are also 2 Apple Stores within walking distance of me and a total of 5 Apple Stores within a 10-mile radius not to mention all the AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Best Buy, Target, Radio Shack, etc. I think from 4S onwards, getting an iPhone with your desired carrier on release weekend was possible although you might not get the exact configuration (color and capacity-wise) you want.

I ordered my 5S via Verizon's website and got it a few days later. And it was the Gold one, on top of that. No long wait at all

I honestly don't think Apple has the consumer's upgrade eligibilities on their minds when they are looking to launch product.

If anything, people are still going to buy no matter what whether it is an upgrade or buying outright which I am going to do.

Either way Apple is going to still make a lot of money with or without catering to the needs of those waiting to upgrade.

Agreed.

I think you explained your situation quite well lol.

I haven't lived in LA since the iPhone launched, but I miss it. Some of the best food you will find in the country!

What time did you place your order? Was it midnight?

That's funny. There will be record sales. I'm sure Apple wants to get it out moreso a select number of days befor ethe end of the quarter rather than later so that a few people can upgrade earlier.

I ordered mine on Friday September 20, 2013 at around 2:00am. Basically as soon as you were able to place an order for the 5S. Ordered my phone via Verizon and it was delivered to me on Wednesday September 25, around noon. It was delivered right as I was getting ready to leave for work. The entire ordering process took only a few minutes to complete. If Apple comes out swinging with the i6, I'm gonna simply do the same thing again.

My representative told me 7 days was the max after speaking with the manager, or at least that's what he said. But like I said before, I'll try again on Sept 9th, when we know for sure when the pre orders will start.

No. If people wanted the phone, they'd get it anyway.
I think you can do an upgrade 2 days early anyway.

I'm on AT&T and I checked not long ago and i'm already up for a full upgrade, I got my iPhone 5 on Sept 21, 2012 and last time I checked it said I could upgrade on 9/21/14, now it's been updated and my date has been moved up.

Every year everyone freaks out and in the end things always get worked out.

How about for those of us switching carriers? Here's my situation. My Sprint contract terminates on 09/15/14, two years after I ordered the iPhone 5 (09/14/12). I would've thought my contract started on activation date (09/21/12) but I guess that's not the case. My point is, I don't want to effectively cancel my old contract if the 6 should go up for pre-order before the 15th. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks
