How big of a performance increase would the 2.8GHz model see over the 2.66GHz model (all default configurations) while playing a game (such as Grand Theft Auto IV)?

Is it even worth the extra $300?

but for the extra $300 you are also getting twice the L2 cache and twice the VRAM. that is what will make the difference. the 140mhz is pretty negligible.

i just love the fact that my pre WWDC 2.66 mbp is better than this new one. this is the only time that i can ever think of that i was happy i didnt wait.

If I was buying a new MBP I would have been mad if I had waited and then found that they were gone form the refurb store within an hour form the store coming back up.

Why do people still believe the new 2.66Ghz is the old one with an integrated battery and a lower L2 cache?

The new 2.66Ghz is the old 2.4Ghz with the same L2, same graphics (256mb) and a minor speed bump in the processor.

The old 2.66GHz has been given a speed bump to 2.8GHz and a new internal battery and SD card slot. It still retains the same graphics cards (512mb) and the same L2

It seems that people are looking at the new specs the wrong way round. Its not that the specs have been reduced. They've been bumped up a bit with a few extra bits and pieces and a price drop.

Im actually fine with the price I paid. I bought my 2.53GHz in October when they were released, then had it upgraded to the 2.66GHZ in april after it developed a fault. Its a price you pay for buying early and im ok with it. Plus I loath internal batteries! I have two replacement ones that Im more than happy with and an expresscard for all the memory cards I use. I still have the higher L2 cache, the two graphics cards with 256mb and 512mb of memory.

I think this release has been good for everyone. New buyers can feel that they are getting a good deal and those that already have them have no reason to feel as though they have been stiffed.

The difference in price between the processors is $60 at most.

So then cutting the price by $500 and only lowering the CPU $60 is a really good deal for the consumer. ;)

IDK why people keep comparing the old 2.66ghz to the new 2.66ghz they are not the same class of machine. Compare the old 2.4ghz to the new 2.66 and the old 2.66 to the new 2.8.

Its also worth noting that the P8800 is a 25W proc compared to the 35W that the T9550 was. So at high loads, the P8800 is a more efficient processor and would have better battery life than a T9550 would.

depends on what you do. but for me who does a lot of audio editing and processing it make a pretty big difference.

yes audio related stuff does matters since audio lag but for engineer which is just crunching numbers the difference will be a few seconds. Also for everything else like graphic or normal web surfing you would not be able to tell the difference.

OMG, 2.66 now with 3MB cache? WTF? WTF! Quietly downgrading processor... I don't remember Apple mentioning "Hey, btw, we've downgraded the CPU!"

The difference is not negligible. L2 cache is damn important; unless all you do is browse internet and watch films...

LMFAO do you even know what it does?
