But Apple is returning much more accurate results.

Your misreading your quoted article. "Fuel for the fire indeed", youre misquotings are just doing that : fueling anger rather than proper discussions. Are you doing this on purpose ? That's against forum rules.

Anyway, yes, the article states Apple is going for accuracy, but it also states that Google returned more results that were accurate than Apple did. I quoted that part earlier. Are you conveniently ignoring this ?

If it does find some reasonable, it is mostly telling you the truth: it didn't find it. It is not giving you some place in the other side of the world.

Except in many examples where it did just that, read the original piece again :

Oups uh ?

----------

I'm sorry, but I'm pretty impressed with the HopStop app...and a bunch of Montreal specific transit apps came up as options when I picked a random trip from a hospital outside of town to a downtown location.

Multiple bus/train options or I could have asked for either specifically...and it shows Caroline's burned from the walk, energy saved, great graphics...awesome app.

I didn't say there wasn't transit apps for Montreal, I said they don't tell you a bus is late by 5 minutes, they can't know, unless they're the RTL/STM and even those agencies don't provide that much transit details.

So Google had transit for Montreal down, now I'm either stuck using another app to plan routes using transit or just doing it the old fashion way. Inconvenient. Too bad the reason I own a smartphone is pure convenience, otherwise I'd own a dumbphone that would be much cheaper.

But don't you think a third party app will come along in the near future that may be better?

Again, HopStop shows me the info for Montreal and yes, IMO, is better than what Google provided.

I think like other apps such as restaurant finders or the like, third party transit apps will evolve quickly and favorites will emerge from the regular users in that particular city so that travelers going to that city can either download the app in advance or it will move to the top of the list.

HopStop was at the top of the list and was recommended by a few users on here, so I tried it...haven't had to download another one yet. I'm sure a few will merge into a few key transit apps that will cover whole countries or regions.

Oh I think its MUCH bigger than the (overblown) antenna problem. At least with that the solution was simply to move your hand or accept a free bumper. I wish the solution to maps was that simple.

The google web app loads slow and the map apps I tried fall far short of googles (free) offering. This is one of Apple's biggest blunders, more than MobileMe and ping.

Not sure I agree. Everyone uses a phone to make calls. Not everyone requires maps. In addition, I find in NY the apps map to be very acceptable

I use my phone for other than phone-calls, I would say texting, surfing and navigating has surpassed my phone usage long ago. If You think a phone should be a phone why did you buy the iPhone? It's the one features it does the worst.

In NY? Yeah right - half of the subway stations are missing and it sends you on a wild detour half of the times.

Yes, but 3rd party apps are less convenient. Now I have to have an app for walking directions, then for transit, then another for restaurants, then another...

Get where this is going ? Less convenience is not something that should be celebrated.

Anyway, I don't know what you and other posters still grasping at straws to tell users there are no problems are doing. What's your goal ? Tim Cook admitted Maps weren't up to snuff, Apple modified their marketing material to reflect that, it's over. The "complainers" have "won" their apology.

Why does this myth keep perpetuating? iPhone makes fantastic phone calls, and always has. I find it rather hilarious. I guess the thousands of voice minutes I use each month are phantom because iPhone can't make phone calls very well. LOL.

Compared to a classic Nokia mobile phone, the iPhone doesn't even come close in call quality... and comparing to all the other things the iPhone does very well it's still the weakest function. Sorry if you feel offended by that...

I don't need to calm down. And I wasn't berating him for not adding a negative narrative either. All I said was -- just because someone isn't having issues with Apple Apps doesn't mean it isn't faulty with someone else.

This Apple Apps debacle has been highly stressful for a lot of us who were very dependent on Google Maps. I'm highly aggravated at the situation, so don't get huffy with me.

You shouldn't depend on anything Google! They have their hand in every bit of your business, and do the exact opposite of their so called motto 'do no evil'! I'm glad Apple ditched Google maps. Now I can attempt to live life 'Google-free'.... Although they still publish their drive by photos of my Grandma's house, while archiving every bit of our personal data they can..... If Google worked in the airport they'd be called the TSA! Sticking their hands down your pants with a dirty glove is about the only invasion of your privacy Google doesn't do, yet....... I'm sure the merger is coming soon. Who better to provide security than the company that 'knows you best': Google! Maybe Google can vote for us too! why suould we go to the polls, when Google can vote for us? Talk about Apple vs Big Brother; 28 years late.....

I'm not trying to defend maps as a whole...again, I tried HopStop and it gives me everything you listed with multiple route options...walk, train, bus, train/bus combo, taxi stands....Google didn't even have all of that...

We're talking about a third party app that that literally takes one extra step. And that extra step will allow users to possibly pick the best app for their most utilized transit needs.

You are clueless or just trolling. I've got several "classic" Nokia phones, and trust me, the voice quality is not even CLOSE to iPhone. The only thing those classics have is battery, but that's because they don't do anything!

I think rather you are. My iPhone has so much static when the speakerphone is used that the person on the other end can't hear me. And I've already exchanged the phone.

Up until 3GS the iPhone has severe side tone issues - and a Nokia 6500 delivered far better call quality (without dropping calls) than the iPhone 4. Wideband audio will be an improvement and it's something a classic phone can't do.

My speakerphone has no static. I think you have a defective device. None of the iPhone's I owned (each since the 3G) have experienced this, either.

I dont use it for subways. I have a dedicated app for that. I have taken two road trips over the last few days from Long Island. First trip was to southern jersey. The other was to UConn. Both times the map app worked perfectly. Turn by Turn was great. No issues what-so-ever.

Texting, and surfing have possibly surpassed the amount of times I make calls, but map use has not.

I'm immensely grateful that I didn't downgrade to iOS 6. Yes, I mean "downgrade". After being an Apple aficionado for 2.5 years, I must say that I might have to leave the Apple family; I guess it's not the same without SJ...

I'm getting very frustrated that Apple is disruptly pressuring me into upgrading to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4S and iPad 2, when I believe it's an immense downgrade!

Despite all the issues, I still love Apple and I hope they don't turn into Big Blue...

I am so sick of hearing this. I guess Apple did nothing wrong while SJ was alive. Lets not forget, he was once FIRED!!!!!!

Ping, iPhone 4, MobileMe...some other stuff that Apple produced under SJ.

Yes, I well aware of all those, although for some reason it just seems a lot worse now. I guess I'm just really upset with Apple and I'm sure we'll make up soon. :D

BTW, I had my iPhone 4 replaced 4 times and I still loved that phone despite all the issues. I still use my vintage Apple devices as well.

Not so sure I agree at all. Besides Maps, what is wrong with iOS6? My favorites....

I agree with all of this post.

Is this new? Apple maps improving ?

This is way overblown. Another antenna gate.

I had 10 stops on Saturday and 8 today. Gave maps a test here in SW Ohio. Zero issues and found a new shortcut I never noticed in 30 years of driving. The new interface is slick. A lot of problems I'm reading about are same stuff Google had problems with, people have lost their minds.

Apple will fix the location data the software is fine.

And for those complaining about GPS fix problems....seriously? Have you ever used a GPS ? No GPS works well in tall buildings cause you can't get LOS to the satellites.
