Yes please, after 125 people still complain Google maps are gone when the webapp is good for about everything you could need.

I bet if Apple adds the original Maps app in 6.1 people would still find reasons to complain.

It's no where near good enough. Street view is clunky, it has no way to drop a pin, it has no compass and no contacts integration.

Not to mention that it doesn't update quickly and isn't the default map for third party apps.

iPhone works well in the US. it's made in the US. You should get one of the great, innovative phones made in England. It'll work better over there.

That's bull. It should work well in every country it's sold in.

Not that it works great in the US either. I ask Siri for weather at my current location, she gives me the weather for St. Louis, Georgia even though I'm in St. Louis, Missouri. I can ask her specifically for weather in St. Louis, Missouri and I still get weather for St. Louis, Georgia. What makes that even worse is that there is no such city or town called St. Louis in Georgia. Google it, Wikipedia it, iOS 6 map it - there is no St. Louis in the state of Georgia. Siri is not just giving me weather for the wrong location, she's giving me weather for a nonexistent location. God only knows what virtual body orifice she's pulling the weather from.

And I've given up on asking her for the Cardinals score. Despite quantifying it with "St. Louis" and "Baseball" I still get scores for the Stanford Cardinals college football team. It's like the city of St. Louis doesn't even exist in Siri.

Not only is Apple Maps a joke in all corners of the world, Siri is quickly becoming a joke too. iOS 6 is a disaster. I really wish I hadn't upgraded.

You're 100% right. The St. Louis bug should've been fixed weeks or months ago (not sure if it existed prior to iOS 6 or not.) It's a glaring issue affecting a major metro area. I can't believe the phone even says "Here's the forecast for St. Louis, MO" and it's clear that the data is for a different location.

How Siri even knows St. Louis, GA exists is beyond me. I've lived in Georgia for 5 years and I never even knew we had a St. Louis in this state until this Siri issue popped up.

Sure, but do you think Google didn't have enough notice from Apple? Do you really think they lack the resources to fire off a replacement app? Do you think perhaps they don't really care and are letting you all suffer? In the end, let's see how quickly they respond or even if they do. That's on them not anyone else.

Of course they have the resources but if they are trying to come out with something close to their Android version, let's just say that's an incredibly complex app by smart phone standards. I would imagine they are trying to make it the best App possible because if they do, it will be a big PR victory and will get massive coverage in the tech media.

The best thing is at this stage there is no way Apple can block a Google Maps app from the App store and Google knows it.

Besides, I don't think it's in their best interests to let anyone "suffer". Google need people using their services, their business model requires it and overnight they've just lost millions of users. They'll be wanting these people back.

Making this App will allow them to do that AND show Apple up at the same time. I don't think they could resist that challenge.

Apparently they've had an app ready for a long time but in the hold up is they are hooking it into google earth

Woot! Almost the one month anniversary of being completely Google free!!! Thank you Apple!!!!! Now if only Apple could help us keep our private info off of Google's searches; I'd contact my Senator and Congressman, but they've all been bought off by Google years ago.....

This site, and most others, use Google ads... I doubt you're nearly as 'Google free' as you think you are.

Of course, it's not like Apple isn't tracking your every movement and click for their own ads...

The best strategy for Google is hold on to the Google map app and let IOS users suffer. They won't put the map apps up until IOS map become competitive. There are two side of Google. One side is the advertising side and they want revenue now. The other side is Android. For the sake of Android phones sales, they want to hold off the map in IOS as long as possible. There is no reason for them to help Apple make their user happy. If Google really care about user, why wouldn't they bring their IOS map the same level of function as Android? The price of Google map is all the location based apps in IOS and Apple is not willing to give it up. Apple is the villain in the map decision, so Google could milk the pr issue as long as they can.

In a few months, Apple map will be much more useful and we probably will start seeing some 3rd party transit app available. By Iphone 6 time, the map will not be an issue. Google map will be on IOS again with the same level of function as Android phone. There is no real reason to hold back any function anymore since Apple map will probably has those function (may not be as good but probably good enough for 90% of users)

You really think Apple Maps can catch up with Google within a year? Impossible. Streetview alone would take years. The iphone will remain inferior for a decade. Apple's only option to curb that is to allow users to choose google maps as their main mapping utility, similar to how they can change search engines.

No, Apple map does not need to match Google map function by function. They just need to be functional i.e. address are correct and turn by turn navigation is accurate. Streetview is a good to have buy not mandatory for most of the users. And if someone leave IOS device because of street view, they would have left already. Google street view is available in the web google map app already. So there is a solution for someone who want to stay in IOS.

The map issue is not a apple map vs google map. Once Apple kick Google map out of IOS, it become IOS vs Android choice. If someone cannot live without Android map app, they would have moved to Android device by now or simply not upgrade to IOS 6. If someone can live with the alternate map solution in IOS 6 (e.g. Google web version, mapquest, etc. etc.), they would stay. Remember Passport require an accurate map app to be usable. Once Apple fixed the Map accuracy problem, passport become the hook that lock user into IOS ecosystem.

Map is an important part of mobile device experience but not the only one. Apple is forcing the user to choose. And judging from Iphone 5 sales number, majority of folks who want Iphone 5 will get one and lack of google map be damned. Google will picked the right time to bring Google map to IOS. They don't want to help Apple now but they will be back in a hurry if Apple start putting together a decent map solution. The revenue side of Google will want IOS revenue like any other app developer. And they want to collect all the user information that they can get their hand on to further their search algorithm also. Apple users are much more willing to spend money than Android user as a group, so it is to Google search side benefit to stay onto IOS.

I still say that after 6 months, Apple map will be decent enough and there are enough alternative solution that IOS user will forget they need google map (If Google map is not back by then). For those who cannot wait, they will leave but they may come back when all is well again..

The longer google waits, the more people will get used to apple maps. Heck, I'm already wondering why I should bother installing another maps app. You can be sure that google is going as fast as it can.

No. People are complaining because key functionality has been removed from their expensive phones without any way to restore it or upgrade back to 5.1. If the old maps app were restored, people would be happy.

This^^^
And again, remember that the Map App API and MapKit are used by other Apps and they bootstrap off of the data- good, bad, indifferent. That can compound the mistakes in the current Map App.

In 6 months they will still be around the same place as they are now - don't kid yourself, it will take years before Apple Maps reaches a consistent quality experience... they said it themselves: "we're just getting started". And judging from what the have accomplished, Apple aren't really getting anywhere at all. They do not seem to have scrambled to fix blatant errors (as hinted) but rather adding 3D junk instead. The bling needs to be in place before the maps apparently.

Using maps and just showing my current location it always wants to place me on a road. Whether I'm walking or on a train it moves my actual location to a road sometimes completely away from where I should be. With all the missing map data in Japan it's very reasonable that I am actually on a side street or walkway etc but maps puts me on a road.

How can I stop it second guessing my location and just show my actual location?

Conversely, the longer Google waits, the more likely I am to buy a Samsung.

if Apple keep their existing data sources, there is no way they will fix their maps in 6 months or a year.

Only way to do it in that time is to completely start over with accurate data. This is what i'll think we'll see happen.

heh heh, if you believe what you said, I have a bridge to sell you. That is not how corporate American work. The map team just humiliated their CEO and forced him to issue an apology because of their screw up. And you think they won't do everything possible to fix their problem????

A lot of these errors look to be a problem of matching data source and location (e.g. POI on wrong part of town). The fix of the problem is systematic in nature (to put all source of data in a common starting point) and not one POI at a time. Stay tune, they fix some of the easy one and the harder one will be on deck..

Whats wrong with Google?

Google maps will always be better in android. So if that is the killer feature for someone, the is no reason not to buy a Samsung. A google maps app won't make a better experience than on an android.

Also, why haven't those people left already? Google maps on the iPhone was horribly gimped. And it was never going to be as good as on googles own competitor platform.
