Woah if they did reject the app, they'll be screwing us customers. They should approve it so customers have a choice to choose what works for them. Since Tim Cook already suggested the Google Maps web app as an alternative, I think there shldn't be any hiccups.

Apple have proven they are quite at ease screwing their customers over maps so it really wouldn't surprise me to see Google maps rejected.

For the last few years my reasons for jailbreaking have gradually diminished, Apple maps actually added a reason though, I'm sure there will be some tweak to change the default maps, just like there's tweaks to change the default browser.

I do think things have changed quite a bit after the black eye and Tim's subsequent apology, if Apple were to reject Google Maps they should also reject the Nokia Maps application. The outcry about Apple Maps made it hard for Apple to stick to their guns and kick competing apps from the platform, Google just decided to let Apple burn for a bit before adding their app, but we'll see... Apple rejecting Google Maps or not will be the deciding factor for my overall relationship with the company.

I started to think of this as an option because of IOS6... for the first time ever.

Glasgow is now included in Flyover mode.

Superb. :D

Do you like need to clear the cache of the Maps app to see any changes or something?

Haven't seen any changes recently, so I was wondering if I needed to do something to make it appear....

Google Maps will be approved because Apple can't stomach another massive bad publicity hit--they got enough bad publicity the first time around and have (perhaps) grown a little bit wiser.

Google will probably time the submission just around the holiday buying season. Imagine what would happen to Apple's holiday buying season if Apple rejected Google's Maps?

Whoever started this thread is a moron. The only thing Apple Maps DOESNT have, that google does, is local transit support.

Apple maps is awesome. Flyover is so new, and although the cities no longer look like the aftermatch of WW3, they serve no real purpose for the general maps user. Dont get me wrong, i love exploring philadelphia via fly-over, however it is of no help to be able to see a 3d rendering of a city.

Turn by turn directions in Apple Maps is AMAZING. That feature alone is worth it... they are super precise and 1Million times better than ANY GPS system i have ever used.

I've used maps a few times in the car and its been very good.
I live in Whaley Bridge Derbyshire UK.
The map of the area was very poor zoomed in on release, I flagged it its been fixed and I live in the country side.
Apple maps, a house that had solar panels fitted 6 months ago, has solar panels.
Google, part of a new housing estate completed over 2 years ago is still under construction, apple it's finished and the grass is green in the gardens.

My view of apple maps has changed to a positive....

Makes you sound rather silly and bone-headed, when you join a thread and haven't read anything that comes before?

To recap: If Apple Maps is so perfect, how come Tim Cook himself had to issue and personally sign an abject apology for how bad it is? And then had to personally suggest that everyone use other maps until it gets better? Did you read how much flak Cook got for acknowledging how bad Maps is? Cook knew he'd get loads of criticism (and all the comparisons to Steve Jobs) but Maps is so very, very bad, he had to issue the apology.

And Apple Maps is one of the main reasons that Forstall was forced to quit!

And then, all the turmoil and bad publicity led to a very bad stock collapse!

Local transit integration has been seamless, it recommended a free app called transit, now in apple maps, when I do a route and set it to public transport it goes straight into the app perfectly. Plus the app is 1000000x better than googles as google does not have the correct buses for my area

That has been my experience too :)

The satellite view wasn't great to start with but that serves no purpose to me anyway.

Turn by turn is BRILLIANT!

I have an iPhone 4. We're I to upgrade the iOS 6 I would not get turn by turn with voice - that's blocked by Apple as part of its obsolete-your-hardware policy. But I would lose native Google maps. This is what is known as a lose-lose situation.

Heard the new imminent Google Maps app have turn-by-turn navigation as well. The question is whether it'll work on older devices such as the 3GS and the 4.

But I think the quality will be good.

How do you select public transit in Apple Maps?
The recommended free app is named "Transit"?

Edit: found it, thanks.
