This is where I believe Apple is going with navigation...100% 3D with their C3 Technologies view versus the building view that currently shows up in 3D cities.

More natural and would explain why they are removing almost all cars from the streets to make the navigation as clear as possible.

They're removing the cars? How do you know?

...possibly because there are no cars on the roads.

This is usually a parking lot of traffic and never empty. You can see some on overhead view from the satelite shots, but rarely in flyover.

That would be sweet. Maybe we will see this as soon as iOS7?

Would be cool, for sure; but they have a long way to go with Flyover. As it stands now, anytime you approached an overpass, it would appear as though the road goes to a 90 degree angle and turns into a "wall".

I'm not going to get excited about Apple Maps again until I can actually put any new features to the test myself. I learned that lesson from Forstall's last on-stage demo (which, as it turned out, was probably his last demo with Apple).

It is sort of annoying that they censure some buildings in flyover. It is just few, but I hope they won't start mass censuring in the future. So far I've seen only SAAB HQ in Linköping (Yes, the company that sold C3 Technologies to Apple), and a police building in Stockholm.
It would be awesome to see a Pentagon uncensured in the future, if there would be Washington at all.

And your point is?

Bosphorus is not a 3D city. That is a common graphic display of a manmade structure being shown with a 3D terrain overlay...the same thing happens with Google Maps in similar situations.

By the way...don't try to drive to Bosphorus with Google Maps or you might end up a little wet. Where are the thousands of threads complaining about this?

You think there should be thousands of threads complaining about the fact that you might get wet if you drive into the Bosphorus?

Uhhhh...it was a joke. Most people (outside of Europe) would not know that Bosphorus is a strait, river, body of water...since Google does not lable like we normally do in the US as "The Bosphorus" or "Bosphorus Strait."

Istanbul is where Europe and Asia meet. I reckon there are as many people in Asia who know that as there are in Europe.

Still, if you say that was a joke fair enough. Sounded like you thought Bosphorus was a city though, which I have to say makes more sense than your "joke".

Ummmm....look what was typed into the address bar....

What is shown is exactly what you searched for. It points to the center of the trait.

Try to search for Gulf of Mexico

What country should I use when typing that in?;)

That was the joke...I typed it in AS a city...part of Turkey.

It came up correctly, but shows how Google can actually be TOO smart....it should have corrected it to either "The Bosphorus" or "Bosphorus Strait" as well as placed the mark over the name of the straight and not some random, untagged spot.

I've been there and know what it is, but most people outside of Europe would not and would be confused by the way it is shown in my screenshot.

But now it's official!

But seriously, yeah, Beta.

If this was the final version, you would have every right to be disappointed

Apple maps is a disaster beta or not. Just because its a beta it doesn't mean that the OP doesn't have the right to call it a disaster.

It is true apple is working hard even still a disaster is a disaster, beta or not

I just checked, and it does place the tag over the name of the straight. But I'm not sure what your point is. You seem to be saying google maps is flawed because if people randomly enter the Bosphorus as a location it directs them to the Bosphorus, when it should know that the people entering the Bosphorus might try to drive there and get wet?

What exactly is the problem with google maps bringing up exactly what you type in? If you type Thames, England it brings you to the mouth of the Thames. If you type Tiber, Italy it brings you to the mouth of the Tiber. If ou type Bosphorus, Turkey, it brings you to the middle of the Bosphorous.

Seems to be spot on to me. If people outside of Europe haven't heard of it, why would they be searching for it? Surely they'd look for Istanbul?

Here is an example of a no-brainer explanation where to turn and how it looks with 1 picture. The route can also be marked if you write in address and navigate there, but I was lazy and done it in a paint lol.
Now show me the way Street view does it better. Don't tell me that with the satellite image it would be the same thing, 3D view looks more natural than Satellite view and you remember it better, unless you travel helicopter.
P.S.: It isn't my home, and I chose a random address.

Now we know somebody's home.

It could just be my area, but near me Apple maps is better than Google maps, especially with turn by turn navigation. I've also noticed that Apple Maps has been much more responsive than Google Maps as of recently. My only criticism is that I wish Apple would work on adding public transportation directions. However, I've been using premium Apps for a while, and they seem to be much better than what Google offers, with clearer directions in most places. The new google maps App is a bit annoying, and somewhat inconsistent with the quality it offers, not to mention it gives me a headache =/

People are still complaining about this? Nobody is forcing you to use Apple Maps, personally i don't see the big deal, Google Maps has been out, no need to keep complaining.

I am not a heavy maps users, but whenever I needed it, I was happy with it. The only big thing missing is the info about nearby train and bus stations. This is still done better in Google Maps. I believe Apple will bring more improvements with iOS 7.

Except that Apple forces us to use it since we can't change the default mapping program.

Want Siri to find you something? Forced to use Apple Maps. Want to use Find My Phone / Friends? Apple Maps. Want to set location based reminders? Apple Maps.

All features I used to use regularly, but still can't since Apple prefers my home address (and entire community) a good ways away from where it actually is.

Navigation is only 1 of the many things maps are used for.... there are still plenty of my 3rd party apps that were equally rendered useless (notably real estate and fitness tracking apps).
