I've been taught a lesson to reserve judgement until I try something out myself.

The maps are missing quite a few points of interest compared to Google, but I'm sure things will improve. They look great and they're definitely usable in their current form :)

I'll reserve full judgement until I've tried them out with some navigation.

I tested 4 locations all within .4 miles and 10 miles from my house. I know these routes like the back of my hand and alternate routes for some. It was accurate on all routes and I learned a new route that will get me to wings and beer faster!

Not saying the app is perfect but so far on first try it was better than oh say, passbook.

Then why the heck did they not continue with google maps until apple maps was done? Its either Retarded or Arrogant (likely both).

Because Apple maps can never be fully complete until it's in use by millions of people. I'm sure Apple is taking data straight off your iPhone to improve the maps database.

Yes you can expect it! To replace the existing solution, it has to be on par at the very least.

You can still use Google maps... Just open Safari and use it in the browser. I personally don't think the maps is that bad. It's been working pretty well for me.

Heh, Google Maps didn't have turn-by-turn in iOS 5, though.

And iOS 6 doesn't support public transportation (yet... hopefully it will at some point). I use mass transit more than I drive, so meh to the turn by turn, especially since I can read a map and figure out when I need to turn all by myself when I'm driving. I do not have every BART, MUNI, Ac Transit, and Ferry, stop, connection and time schedule memorized however.

You can't expect the maps app to be perfect as it takes time to perfect things like this. Look at how long Google Maps has been around compared to Apple's Maps... I do agree it needs work, but I do prefer the graphic of Apple's maps. Looks much sleeker to me. It's still ways away from being perfect though. Give it time.

Wait, we can't expect for the most valuable company in existance to put out a decent working product for the most popular mobile devices out there? Come on, quit giving Apple a free pass for every mis-step.

I really don't understand how anybody can use this logic in regards to the Maps app. I can not fathom how maps that are more visually pleasing makes up for the fact that they aren't accurate. I don't go into the maps app to look at the pretty colors, I want to get someplace.

I thought the way any GPS worked is that it learns how YOU drive. The tip that I always received with the GPS' I bought was to use the GPS to get places you know how to get to and ignore the rerouting...

How will directions be different from the Tom Tom app on IOS?? . I've always gotten good directions with Tom tom on my 3GS and iPad 1.

I don't think it'd be good science to base our opinion of maps on one bloke who went to get some milk at the corner store :)

Now the local biz integration is another thing, google is way ahead on this but let's figure out a way to break google's back and get local data. All google did for the most part is use some other companies data right?

I can already see the iPhone 5s/iOS 7 presentation:

"Maps is now magical!! We've loaded thousands of new points of interests and streets. Also included walking directions. It's Magic!"

Just joking but this is like Siri all over again. I'm sure PassBook will be the same way once we all really start to use it.

Figures that this thread exists. Going to be some growing pains while Apple beefs it up, obviously, but it's nowhere near as bad as some of you are claiming.

This is the Apple Fan mentality and it comes from Jobs' "you're holding it wrong" mantra. It's always the users fault that stuff doesn't work the way Apple designed it. I love Apple products but they are so big and ubiquitous that they don't have to please us consumers anymore.

You fail to understand the process of creating a maps database. It's not like a phone where you spend months designing one and then start producing millions. It's a database that takes time to build. You think Google created their huge database of maps in a few months? Google has been collecting data from their users for years and that's the only way to meet perfection. And by no means is Google Maps anywhere near perfect. Is it better than Apple Maps? Of course... But any logical person would expect that.

As more users update and use iOS 6... The maps database will improve.

Like I said, in Toronto (for me) the maps app has been great so far. I've had no issues, and I've tried multiple locations. Everything has been accurate so far. So I can't complain.

:( maps sucks big time. Seriously. Why release a product that is not finished.... this is so dumb I hope google can get theirs in the app store... shoot if they give the android maps version i will pay a buck for it.

hey it worked with siri right??

Once again...the data for Apple Maps is provided by TomTom
