Works great in the SF Bay Area and Monterey Bay Area. Sometimes you have to zoom in a touch to see traffic on specific roads.

I believe that it depends on the provider. While here in Czech republic, the Maps are terrible in general, Prague is quite OK (including traffic information, incidents, road works etc.), actually better than Google Maps in this regard.

i'll be honest. I'm a bit luke warm towards the S3 I dont think its a huge leap over the S2. The 13mp camera never materialised Asus bought them all for the padfone 2 thats also why iphone 5 doesnt have 13mp camera. Rumours are both apple and samsung tried to get them but sony (who make them) had a contract with asus.

Also Its a bit on the big side for my taste. But I hear they're bringing out an S3 mini (4 inch and much cheaper) that might be more my thing . Could even just get an S2 .

i thought the OP was talking about google map, not apple's

No, the OP complained that the new Map has no traffic info like Google's but the image and link are for people outside US to show traffic info isn't available in all countries.

I wonder, perhaps naively, if there would be any way to push Apple to at least allow users to downgrade to 5.1.1 for a period of time? A petition? Media coverage? ? I'm furious that my map app is useless for me now - I use it all the time and naturally assumed that what Apple replaced it was would be as good if not better. I don't care about the difficulties of making a good map app, nor do I think any customer 'should have known' before 'upgrading'.

Like others, my experience is that Apple maps :

a) gives me outdated information about local shops (shops and supermarkets established in the past 2-5 years mostly don't show up).

b) when a POI or business is found, it is consistently in the wrong place, often blocks away.

c) it can't find an address at all, despite having put in the full address and postcode. This happened to me on multiple occasions yesterday - and I know the buildings have been there fore at least 5 years.

d) Doesn't offer any public transport information at all.

I mean, it's amazingly poor by ANY standard, to the point of being laughable as a map. The whole point of a map is to be able to find things...duh. If you can't find anything on a map and the things you can find are not in the place they say they are, it's not really a map, is it?

@PDE if you really must downgrade i think apple still signs ios 5.1 so hurry up, just google and you will find the way.

ah, i reread it again, thanks for clearing it up. haha.
my initial read, was like.. oh he had traffic, n now he doesnt (on google map).

Thanks. I tried yesterday a few time but got the message that it wasn't eligible for that build. I must have waited for too long... :-(

Apparently you don't understand what a beta is. If you are a real developer you would surely understand that its not perfect yet.

But now it's official!

But seriously, yeah, Beta.

If this was the final version, you would have every right to be disappointed

Just because its in beta doesn't mean they can royally screw it up. Stop defending and accept the fact, Apple got it wrong this time.

Yeah dont understand why some still say its a beta, i dont see anywhere where it states the maps app is in beta stage, even that if apple state these is thats just wrong knowing that it will affect a lot of people, is not like Siri wich is pure novelty.

yeah where does apple say its beta

this talk about beta- seriously nothing much changes between beta and release.

Alpha and release version = big difference

Beta and release version = tiny tiny difference ( squash a few bugs and its ready to go) Most people given a beta & release version wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I agree. The map app is actually something that is essential to many people's daily lives and work. Siri wasn't . And, as you say, there has been no indication that this is Beta software.

I wouldn't say that the map app is essential since there have always been countless other (and much better) map apps available in the Store.

What IS essential (and my biggest gripe) are all the other apps and features that are forced to use Apple's maps... and in turn, for many of us, are now completely useless.

Which other map app would you say is better and provides the features that the previous google map app provided? I haven't been able to find one, but would certainly like to...but it must have the same or most of the features of the old app, including public transport info.

Thanks

Most apps i see people recommend are not free thats why i say its/was? a "major" feature the old built-in google maps integration like you say that now renders a lot of stuff useless.

@PDE Mate try to restore to the last ios6 beta (not gm of course) and THEN give the downgrade a try, saw a post in another forum with people being succesfull that way, in fact i think its pnly possible to downgrade "the easy way" while on beta.

Can be BS but doesnt hurt to try.

Does anyone know how many people work for the google maps? 7,100 workers. Over the past years.
Apple should start doing the same, instead of relying other developers to do it. They should start from the ground, define their own maps system.

dude that would literally take about 20 years lol the world is a big place. Google bought a shed load of stuff to start with then invested and built on it.

but yeah they need to "double down" on map investment

Apple have got it wrong.

This maps app is embarrassing.

It would be the worst maps app for any other company but Apple because Apple has millions of fanboys who will never admit Apple got it wrong.
