I used Apple Maps this weekend and it worked well. The reroutes were quick and it gave accurate directions. Sure there may be many glitches but I've had lots of issues with Google maps in the past.

I have had no problems with it at all. All the features that Apple Maps doesn't have in comparison to Google, I did not even know Google Maps had them in the first place. So I don't miss them, but I understand why it bothers people.

Also, there were plenty of times where Google Maps gave me awful directions. I always preferred to use my Magellan GPS until it was stolen.

I dig it. Used nav a few times. All was well.

The one thing I don't like, is the lack of SAT/HYBRID view while navigating.... unless I just don't know how to turn it on....

Other than that, it's sweet... and it's only gonna get better.

That said, when Google Maps is available, I will be grabbing that also - keeping both handy

I used it one Saturday evening to get to a party. It workes great in my wife's non-nav RAV4. Turn by turn was great also!!!

No complaints from me... yet. :)

I'm very happy with the new Maps app. It works extremely well in Toronto. Some of the info in the maps about businesses isn't accurate, but I've sent in problem reports on those entries that I found that were incorrect.

I'm not liking the size of the text on-screen. I have good eyes and have to squint to read the signs and directions...potentially dangerous while driving.

Compare this to Waze, which seems to be designed for driving and ease of viewing.

works great for me, no issues at all.

With all the people complaining about the new maps app, the old maps app absolutely sucked. I used it maybe 15 times total in the 5 years I've owned iPhones. The navigation was useless and a pain to even use, the only good thing about it was it found every POI, really that doesn't matter at all to me since the one thing i would want it for was turn by turn. I used WAZE for all my mapping before Apple maps.

I'm totally pleased with the new Maps app, I actually use it now and think it works great.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, flyover is nothing but a "pretty" gimmick. In terms of usefulness as a navigational aid, there just isn't enough detail to help the driver or pedestrian.

As an example, please see the attached picture taken from Google Street View of a street near the town centre of Sale, Greater Manchester, which I'm sure Jimrobo knows well.

I use this street for up to 3 hours free parking when I visit Sale town centre and found it using Google Street View. This kind of thing is absolutely impossible on Apple's new mapping application.

completely get there is way more information on that.......but surely looking at every picture on a streetview map looking for parking signs around Sale takes way longer than googling for parking information. Theres probably an app with that information at your fingertips??

One thing that I think would appease many and that even I would like to see as an option in Siri/Maps, etc. would be options. I was playing around with Aroundme yesterday and noticed how they give you an optoin of selecting the Navi of choice. How nice would it be for the iPhone to offer such integration out of the box.

Keep in mind that google maps had 10 years to be implemented and polished.

Apple maps is less than 1 week old.

In the next 10 years apple maps will be a big deal for apple. :)

And the question is (again). Do You really think Google won't be developing their maps further while Apple "catches up"?

It was merely meant to be an example of the level of detail you can achieve with street view, I could easily have posted an office frontage where you have arranged a meeting, a shop front (store front), your friend's new house that you're visiting for the first time etc.

Google Street View is an infinitely more useful feature than flyover for the average person.

[As an aside, for the pic I did post, I just picked a couple of residential streets within walking distance of the centre & this was the second one I looked at, so it didn't take much time]

Sorry the quote did not come through for some reason:

This would be too easy, and provide the user too much control.

I've been using it for a while and it works just fine for my needs. Only one time it didn't find what I wanted it, but other than that it's smooth. Much better performance than Google Maps (even on my 4S), and better color scheme plus turn-by-turn.

Perfectly happy. I understand people have issues though, and i hope Apple improves Maps as time goes by.

Believe it or not, the biggest issue I'm having so far is with "directions". I have to choose the type of direction I want *before* I type in a location.. I simply *cannot* change between direction type. This is important to me in NYC because I like to compare train, walking and car/taxi a lot.

For example, I hit the 'Directions' button and automatically I start typing in a contacts name, i.e. "Dad". When I tap on it, it goes straight to turn-by-turn car directions. I can't then tap on an icon to change.. I have to start from scratch.

Flyover doesn't have anything to do with Street View, they are totally different things.

And, by the way, when Flyover cover the 5 million miles Street View covers, call me

And? Flyover is not Street View

What kind of grass as you smoking? Obviously not yet. Either way I know it will be better.

All apple has to do is send drones out to hover over land. Capture up-to-date images from all angles. An put together a very high quality 3D rendering that is very up to date. If google can have a google car. Apple will have an apple drone. The technology isn't that farfetched either. They have toy drones now. With some serious money you can get a real one. And with apples missile guiding technology, and the right algorithm, that drone is a leap above a car. It's just needs to be charged and let loose! :)

See my response above.

I'm okay with it, but I'm not a heavy map user. It will get better.

Also, I'm tired of hearing that Steve wouldn't have let this happen. He absolutely would have. He just would have been a lot better at selling it like it was going to be the greatest thing on earth.

OK, Apple Maps is about to make me break my phone

I live in Jersey City and work in Manhattan. I don't drive. I don't care about turn by turn. I take public transportation. GG Apple for getting rid of it.

But whatever, there are options out there, right?

Wrong.

The fastest route from my apartment to work is to take the exchange place path to WTC then the 4 or 5.

Google Maps took me that way.

Hopstop? It insists on having me take the ferry, or take the path up to hoboken, and then another path over to 33rd, and then walk a mile.

Embark? Embark has me to to Secaucus and then into Penn Station. That makes no sense to anyone at all.

Navigon? Sends me to Hoboken and then walk a mile.

vTransit? Oh wait, the keyboard doesn't work in vTransit on the iPhone 5, so no idea.

This is driving me nuts, especially since in two days I'm heading to London for a month for the first time. With no public transportation apps I can trust. Because Apple decided to have its Vista moment.

Oh, and if anyone can recommend an app that will actually give me logical and sensical public transport options, it'd be appreciated.
