Estate?

Apple maps, not only shows the estate fully completed with correct satellite images, also has the road correct and not the messed up version google has... So just shows google ain't perfect...
Estate? Most of us live in houses or apartments or flats. Are you the Earl of Newbury? :)

I actually just picked up an iPad that somehow wasn't updated to 6.0 yet, OMG did apple flop a turd. Comparing the two is comical.

This is why apple dropped google maps.

http://m.digitaltrends.com/mobile/why-are-companies-defecting-from-google-maps/

In short, google has plans to monetize companies who need map loads. After a certain threshold, you have to pay. In the case of apple where tere are millions of iPhones, iPads, iPods all accessing maps, those fees would start to add up dramatically when it was free in the past

Apple had no choice. Not that I am a fan but it needed to be done

Too many fandroids on this board, who will feign outrage over a phone they won't even buy! I was ticked the first night I downloaded iOS6 and certain searches came up empty. However, the next day I used it for a real situation of finding a gig, and at first I was annoyed that it took me on a different route than google would have, until I got to that divergence and saw the traffic jams! Apple hooked it up, turn by turn was absolutely flawless! It tracked me exactly, which google maps NEVER did. Many times my dot would lag and I couldn't tell what street I was actually coming up on until I could see the sign which is sometimes too late. Anyway, my point is, apple maps is nice, and a step in the right direction.

Funny, because I've never been able to read what anything said on street view, it's mostly a pixelated mess zoomed in far enough to be able to actually read anything.

I think this is a privacy thing - like most of Germany being incomplete because of privacy issues. They have the signs in their data-stream and use them to determine traffic flow, directions and other things.

Google Maps was probably in my top 3 most used apps, and now I have a crappy replacement. It's not awful, by a long shot. But it is pretty crappy.

If Apple were listening, this is what I'd say

- Don't block Google from releasing a standalone iOS app. Fair enough, keep the deep integration of Apple Maps, but at least give me the option to use another app when I need just regular mapping.

- Forget about 3D. Forget about satnav. Even forget about satellite images for now. Just get the maps, content, POIs etc spot on. The rest can follow.

There's a reason why apple doesn't have a commercial touting the most significant feature in iOS 6. It sucks! Instead we look at a left thumb and ear. That's the best they can do.

Don't think its a disaster like this thread but I did have my first 'issue' today with the new apple maps. When arriving at the destination, it took me in a circle, luckily I was able to find the street. It was Siri's fault though, cus the map data showed exactly where to go.

So: all these errors are being reported to Apple.

Where do you think Apple goes to confirm the truth of the errors? After all, Apple has to research the corrections, right?

Do you think Apple Maps division is consulting Google Maps???

hahaha!

For me they have 30 days to give some sort of reassurance or fix. If they stay silent for 4wks, I'll take my $$$ back.

Something this serious isn't going to be fixed in 30 days.

The only solution that might appear within 30 days is whether Google has its Maps ready to submit to the App Store--and whether Apple approves it.

Odds are, Apple won't approve it.

They can do very little in 30 days. Changes to the algorithms that splice together the data sources have to be tested and will probably not be done on the fly. I think the next release of iOS will see some improvements in location and informational errors. Search will remain horrendously bad. More 3D cities will be added.

I have a $1 on an update coming in Late Oct/Nov. According to their sit, there are a lot up 3D and siri updates slated for then

That's not reassuring. I travel a lot, the point of iOS and apple is to make my life easier. I go to cities that I'm not familure with and I'd like a chance in hell. Oh we'll, if they give no indication on an impending fix I'll return it. I can't wait till iOS 7.

heh heh, let's say that we all agree that the apple map suck at this stage. Now what? Looks like Apple is going to stuck with their gun. Customer can decide to stick with IOS device or don't buy an Apple product until it fixes the problem.

I think all the argument here miss the context that customer are already making choices today. You can always pin web base version of Google map on any Iphone or use other map apps. They are not as nice a solution as Google app version but doable for a lot of people.

Let's give this topic a rest. IOS 6 map is not a complete product by any definition that someone can defend. But if Apple is willing to bet the corporate good will on the map and Iphone 5 sales, who are we going to argue. Individually we can decide to buy Iphone 5 or any other Apple product or not over the map issue. But keep arguing the same point over and over again does not seem to advance any of the discussion.

How's that work when I click an address from an email or contact? Did apple give us the ability to select the default map/navigation app I'd like to use in iOS 6?

Well if you don't want to open the address in an email or a contact in Apple Maps, then use Motion X Drive. They offer integration directly into contacts. If you have an address in an email, just click, hold, copy and then open Motion X and paste. If that's too much, just click, hold, add to contacts then go into Motion X.

There are others too. All depends on what you're looking to do. Make it work and better your day or a reason to make the return. It's up to you.

Bloody hell. Are the apologists still at it? Apple maps are toilet and a major misstep by apple. What more needs to be said?

I never really understood the jokes about "fanboys" till now. I love apple products, but they're just a company. I don't owe them anything, and to see some desperately defending maps is bizarre.

It's really strange, isn't it?

And then some go on to tell the rest to stop "moaning and groaning" about it. The worst thing a consumer can do to a company is not give honest feedback about its products.

It's a cloud service - won't it just improve as we go along? They don't need to update the app, just fix the data. Same with Siri - what she can and cannot do (other that the languages she understand) largely depends on back end systems.

And screw the 3D updates for now - that's a wow effect only.

Wow. Apples 3d image for NYC is only about a month old. An work awning next to where I work shows up (reprinting the facade of the building), and it has been up there about a month.

It's actually post Labor Day (no water in the city pools)

I have used the new maps and think they blow the Google maps out of the water. I traveled this past weekend and went over 700 miles through some very rural areas of Texas and was totally impressed with the new maps. Maybe they are just good n Texas?
