Did they charge u by calling them out of warranty? so 79 + 6.95 that's it? i supposed they shipped u a shipping box and u shipped it to them right?

Yea that's all I paid. They made me drop my old phone at a UPS store where they packed it. I just told them I needed a new battery coz the old one only lasted for 30 min on a charge. After they received my phone they then shipped a replacement. But I have heard that they can open the phone up and just change the battery. YMMV on what they actually do.

This is not new, apple has always done this! This I know as I was once an Apple Care Rep.
Just do a little search on apple.com or google for *product* OOW (ie iPhone Out Of Warrant) or (iPod OOW) and you will the price structures for the different types of repairs.

Here is a link to the iPhone Page:
http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=iphone

click around and you will find the costs to the service they provide.

And yes they will send you a refurb and not repair your actual device as that would take too long.

You should keep it in mint condition. You never know how much it would be worth in 10 years. There are a lot of Apple related collectors out there. the original Mac sold for quite a lump sum at auctions.

It's not gonna be worth a lot. The first generation iPhone is quite rare in comparison to later models, but Apple still sold millions of them. I think it's cool to keep it, but don't expect making $1000 of it or something.

The iPhone just came in. It looks brand new even though the internals won't be. I'm happy with it.
It looks so gorgeous, even after more than 6 years.

It literally looks 5 years ahead of these awful looking phones.

And suddenly all smartphones came out after original iPhone has multi touch screen and app stores. Samsung only made flip phones and most of their smart phones looked like this.

did u call them or online? when i do online they're making me pay $19.95 for OOW support.

this don't work for me.. i called them and they were charging me 149 AND they can only give me either a 3 or 3GS since they said original iphones are out. :(

You are getting a free furnished phone.

My moms original iPod nano's battery went bad recently and my mom paid $60 for a "new" one but its actually refurbished and they took her old one. The old one will no doubt be refurbished and sold to somebody else.

Wasn't the original nano recalled last year for a fire hazard with the battery or something? I thought Apple made new ones to replace any that were sent in.

Actually the 4GB model of the iPhone was only available for a few months (about two or three months I think) before it was phased out in favor of an 8GB model. It was the "launch" iPhones so they are worth a lot more over the other models.

Plus their original price was around I think $499 (I'm not too sure on that) on contract. After they were phased out, the price was reduced to $199 for the 8GB model so the iPhone 4GB is known to be a model that would have cost you at least $499 on contract to get.

Many of these products can be considered niche' products. It's similar in the computer hardware world where the first generation Intel Core i7 Extreme models (even though slower than the much-much cheaper second and current generation model i7s (the 2600K/2700K and 3770K)) would sell for almost $400 to $500 just because of it's status.

I just got 1st gen iPhone 16 GB from ebay #

Nostalgic purpose....!!:D

It's brand new as mentioned and shown in this thread earlier. Awaiting delivery in a few days :apple:

Primary phone is iPhone 5 - 64 GB though :p

Yes, they were recalled. Apple replaced the recalled nano with original models until they ran out, then they started replacing them with the current nano at the time, which was the square one. I know because I had mine replaced with the square nano.

Wow!

I still have my 1st Gen iPhone 8GB, bought on the 1st day of release ( with sales receipt of almost $800 dollars ) and original box, earphones and blue tooth earpiece.

It's in great condition and works perfectly. Someday maybe it'll be worth more than the original price I paid! Haha!

The original iPhones that go for big cash are the ones with matching numbers on all accessories including the box.
The iPhone itself must be pristine with little to no use.
Still on the original stock iOS is necessary too.

Like numismatics, it's all about condition and rarity plus you need an end user! A collector. If there are 50 iPhones that meet the above criteria yet only 20 collectors seeking them they're of nominal value, turn those stats around though and the prices go dramatically up.

No, I read that Apple officially made the original iPhone "obsolete" in June 2013. They will no longer service them or anything. It's a bit sad :(

Yeah and too bad.

My originals battery is completely shot. I charged it up about 3 weeks ago turned it on to play with it a little and turned it back off. And the battery today is completely drained.
