Personally, I don’t mind the chin - I like the squared off edges that are being implemented across the product lineup.

Those colors though... I knew that they were going to be colorful, but I was really hoping that there would be a black option. Or at least a silver without the white bezel...

Performance, cameras, and sound seem like a solid upgrade though! Should be a great desktop...

Why is Apple thinking that everyone wants to have these crazy colors all over the place?

We all wanted this. SIGH :(

Looks like the chin is required for the system board cooling and likely helps makes the speakers sound better.
It makes no sense. They can put the M1 in a thin iPad Pro and you’d think a larger screen would provide more space for internals. So they could’ve easily done an oversized iPad Pro design. Even if it was a bit thicker it would’ve been ok too.

But that chin, again after over a decade. SERIOUSLY, APPLE? :(

Also what was the point in removing the Apple logo from the chin? At least it looks a bit nicer with the logo than just the chin.

I'm not usually a fan of the negativity on these posts, but geez! The new iMac reminds me of something Google would produce for $299. I understand some people want colors, but how 'bout a dark gray for people who don't want something that looks like a child's toy sitting on their desk. And the white bezels and chin?!!! I was pleased to see the keyboard option with Touch ID and integrating Ethernet into the power supply is an interesting idea. But, I'm gonna pass on this. Probably just get the new Apple TV.

Having worked in the Apple Stores as a Technician, this would not work right now.

#1: a screen that takes up the entire device, in this case, would lead to a much larger casing in back. This would defeat the purpose of what Apple has done with the iMac for some time now: having a thinner over all computer

#2: Without the "chin", you lose access to space for the system board, the larger speakers that are befitting the iMac, and the cooling fans. The fans are the most important part in this case due to heat dissipation for both the logic board and the display. A display this large would generate a pretty significant amount of heat within the casing. Especially when you consider that the logic board would also have a better integrated graphics chip than the MacBook Pros currently.

MacOS is still a much more powerful OS than iPadOS is. The inevitable direction would be to create an iPad that could run MacOS or a unified OS, but it does still require more power overall. With the requirements for, again, heat dissipation, higher graphics processing, etc., this design would not, currently, work as an iMac.

Now...as an external display to replace the old Thunderbolt displays... 🤔

Who really cares how thick the iMac is? I mean it could be double the thickness and if that made it look better than this thing, then fine. That chin is terrible, the bezels are huge and ugly. And the colors? Can’t get a gray or black, the most popular color??? Has apple lost its mind?

Even this whole event seems like way worse than normal. Like maybe they had 5 minutes of actual content to talk about and are having to stretch it out. I THINK WE KNOW WHAT THE M1 CHIP IS BY NOW APPLE!

And the price, yeah not even worth half that.

Purple iPhone? Have I just lost touch with reality?

Disappointing indeed. No color options that appeal to me, removal of legacy ports, and the same ol’ 256 GB SSD / 8 GB RAM for $1300. I’ve long wanted a new iMac but will pass on these.

edit: looks like you can get USB3 ports for $200. Smdh.

Lol. This is so funny. This is replacing the 21 inch. Not the 27. They even said that. This is for students people who work at home etc. Not professional offices. You need the chin for cooling. How do you expect to cool the device. If there was no chin the back would be super thick. And I would rather have a chin and lots of people don’t really care. There is a redesigned 27 inch coming. Like it’s not that hard to figure out. The macrumors people are so funny. They live in their own bubble and act like they are the target market for these products.
