Personally, I don’t mind the chin - I like the squared off edges that are being implemented across the product lineup.

Those colors though... I knew that they were going to be colorful, but I was really hoping that there would be a black option. Or at least a silver without the white bezel...

Performance, cameras, and sound seem like a solid upgrade though! Should be a great desktop...

Why is Apple thinking that everyone wants to have these crazy colors all over the place?
I fully expect the replacement for the 27" model to be "pro" and have silver and black a la iPhone

Who really cares how thick the iMac is? I mean it could be double the thickness and if that made it look better than this thing, then fine. That chin is terrible, the bezels are huge and ugly. And the colors? Can’t get a gray or black, the most popular color??? Has apple lost its mind?

Even this whole event seems like way worse than normal. Like maybe they had 5 minutes of actual content to talk about and are having to stretch it out. I THINK WE KNOW WHAT THE M1 CHIP IS BY NOW APPLE!

And the price, yeah not even worth half that.

Purple iPhone? Have I just lost touch with reality?
The focus on thinness is hilarious for a desktop monitor and TVs. It just doesn't matter.

I knew they would way over-index on "how it looks in a dentists office, to the customer at the desk"
In no way whatsoever is it useful or even advantageous to have it be so thin...

To the point of now having a power brick and external ethernet.

It still has a massive chin and still isn't height adjustable

This will be a massive hit for the mainstream no doubt, apple isn't targeting the tech enthusiast, they are targeting their traditional customer base. Which probably 80% of their customers don't frequent tech forums such as this one.

I'm going to get one for the inlaws and they will absolutely love it. The mainstream isn't critical as people on this board, they aren't gonna say," why is this chin here" and all the other nonsense.

Nah, i love the new design! I don't mind the chin still and I really dig the white bezel. The super thin design in the body and stand are gorgeous and the new Magic keyboard looks great with the more rounded corners. Definitely going to switch up my M1 Mac mini for this day one!

Count me as super impressed with this update.

I wish they kept the Apple logo on the chin, this looks like the fake computers they use in stores like IKEA or a TV show set where they have to block out any logo.

So funny you said this --

I'm not kidding -- I wonder if part of this is to make it easier to use these in shows and still "look right" for the halo/advertising Apple angle.

I don't mind the chin still and I really dig the white bezel.

I'll be interested to see what folks think of this after some time with them.

I've had lighter bezel screens in the past and it looks like crap when it's next to an LCD screen where the whites never match what's on screen on web pages, etc.

Strange that we finally got iOS devices with all uniform black bezels -seemingly admitting that's best - and now we get a 24" screen (huge) with white ones?

Everybody said it would be a giant iPad with small bezels. Now it still has that nasty big chin sans the Apple logo. WTF

What a disappointment and lost opportunity to create a beautiful iMac.

This is so ugly.

if no chin they would have had to implement something like LG does with their OLED TVs which means a thicker back side for a portion of the screen and Apple is fixated on profile views so that would never happen.

My real disappointment is that it uses the M1 chip, it best be clocked higher than my M1 Mini which I already can peak

i like the people dont understand the need for the chin for internal ventilation, speakers system
Lets not forget...this design is here to stay for another 8-10 years....so the M1 i bet dont need 2 fans...but the third gen of this imac...the M3 lets say i bet you will be needed the 2 vents for proper cooling (apple learned a lot from the trashcan mac pro)
So again, who thought the chin will be gone...was not thinking about what the chin is holding

The M1 guts are tiny (they are now in an iPad!)

It could have been done with a basically unnoticeable thickness increase.

What I liked the most is TouchID on the keyboard (lol), I wonder if those you can purchase those separate and have them work with other Macs with the T chip

Yes the Touch ID keyboard is what I liked the most. Wished it came in Space Grey though like my current Magic Keyboard.

I really think it looks amazing as well, would buy it in a heartbeat if it were just a monitor with great speakers.

But for that price, I'm not going to buy a desktop computer that has two ports, starts with 256 GB SSD, presumably doesn't support 120 Hz...

I was immediately smitten with the design but it's really not practical.

Looks like the chin is required for the system board cooling and likely helps makes the speakers sound better.
Agreed. Probably helps to prevent vibration from the speakers. White bezels are hideous though.
Also what was the point in removing the Apple logo from the chin? At least it looks a bit nicer with the logo than just the chin.
Yeah, agreed.
