Uh... wow, I dunno. Sounds like it's hot.

I doubt it. There's plenty of ways to get Apple products cheaper than retail. Developer's discount, for instance. $1599 for a 2.4 Macbook Pro straight from Apple's website isn't too far off from what I paid. I'm sure there is a legitimate way to pay less.

yes, there's the 5 finger discount (4 finger if you're on the Simpsons), and there's also the ol' switcheroo. Inside you'll find a macbook (sans pro) or worse.

those are all ways to get it cheaper.
i know certain developers have limits as to how many machines they can get. (it depends on your level of membership).

we'll see what happens

I don't follow... once again, you said "the guy I bought it from told he got a student discount, but I'm a student and I know there is no discount like that"

He clearly lied to you. And dropped the price on a low margin item. Occam's razor, and all that jazz.

Look, I'm not making a judgement call. I've certainly bought what I felt where at the very least gray market items in the past, problems with $$ and all. But it's not a terribly legitimate data point.

I jumped on the same deal a couple days ago, has anyone received their macbook yet? The price is low, but its not completely unbelievable like others have said. The thing that bothered me was the shipping is parcel post. When I asked to pay extra to upgrade to priority he didn't have a response, hopefully things work out. If not American Express and Paypal SHOULD have my back.

when did you order it

he stop sending me emails back

what is parcel post for ?it says its shiped in a thick envolope

I paid yesterday, and have not heard anything back yet. Does it mention how much the envelope weights? When do you think you will be receiving the package? If he is truly in AZ, then I would guess Monday or Tuesday for myself (if he shipped it today). I am thinking about contacting the others that purchased the computers to form a group of people so we can figure this all out.

I think it is being sent parcel post because its coming from China. If you look at the most recent auction in his feedback page, he states thatr the item is coming from overseas.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160300927612

My guess is he has a contact in china that is able to get real or close to real macbooks at a great price. Item is being dropshipped.

Whould I buy from this guy? Certainly not.

Good luck to those who ordered from this seller.

This is my fav. pep peeve.

People always jump to conclusions like this. Why not read the feedback first?

And even if he doesn't send you an item, you could always file a dispute on PayPal.

Yeah. Same here.
It actually is pretty hard to get scammed on eBay.

Last time I checked, you're 1,000% wrong. The easiest example is DSLR cameras. How many claim to be genuine/authentic when most are defective grey market?

When I was in the market for a DSLR, I did my research. I found that most sellers on ebay with 'amazing prices' were complete scam artists. They avoid legal repercussions by continually changing the business name, and most business addresses lead to an abandoned warehouse.

Yes, ebay is good for some deals (I saved $150 on my glasses), but it's also extremely dangerous. Buyer beware!

no i didnt get the macbook just paid for it 2 days ago

prob wont get it ..deff not getting my hopes up

parcel post is used to ship packages (aka parcels). It is basically the slowest way that you can ship it. The next fastest is Priority Mail, then you go to Express Mail (2 day service or overnight)

Parcel Post and the others i mentioned above are for domestic use only. There are other shipping services overseas that have their own form of tracking number, some of which can be put into usps website to track since the USPS ends up delivering it.

good luck to both of us!

I don't know why you're jumping to that conclusion, I mean, the first line of the auction is about shipping.

I'd guess they're shipping from China, like somebody suggested. His cousin could work at a plant slipping them out the back door, or his uncle is a diplomat and can send stuff tariff-free. Assuming your PayPal account is in good standing you don't have too much to worry about, aside from a headache if it's not as described.

Heh, of course, his name is "Confedince1" maybe his first 51 feedback were all the setup for this huge Macbook con.

i exchanged messages with the seller. i believe he/she is legit in the sense that I will get my macbook pro.

beyond that, it is a private ebay transaction between the seller and me.

because of that, I won't comment on it any further (on this thread or the other thread in the macbook forum) unless I feel that the transaction is not going to happen.

and if you want to accuse me of being the seller, then clearly you have not done your homework/research and there is no point in trying to convince you otherwise.

to travis64, i think you have reason to be optimistic. and don't feel like you have to prove yourself to anyone on this forum. If you got an unbelievable deal on a macbook, then you got one. if not, your credit card will back you.

It will be more cheaper on Apple official store.

wow. you either can't read or you are just trying to increase your post count, regardless of what you're trying to post. take another look at the ebay page then take another look at the apple store.

your error is go great, it is not worth trying to correct you.

Just a quick update for my status. The seller has assured me the package has been shipped, and that is indeed coming from China. Do either of the others have an idea of when to expect delivery? I hope it works out for all of us. I am really looking forward to having a Macbook pro.
