No engineer or programmer can be satisfied with iOS6's abilities. It may satisfy an elderly person or a child, but certainly not an experienced tech industry worker. Sure it will work, but will it work according to your abilities and knowledge level? No.

I'm curious (as a programmer myself) what functions of iOS 6, specifically, are hindering me or holding me back? I'd honestly like to know.

With a degree in computer science (software engineering), I prefer my iPhone to my wife's Android. Hers freezes/crashes too much for starters. But I've only been using a computer for 17 years, so I'm still a newb in that regard.

Have fun with your new Android phone! The TaskKiller App choices are off the chain, so I heard.

iOS is for people who want basic functions. Android is for people who want advanced functions.

My problem is with people who deny that the iPhone isn't for everybody. That's just an outright denial of the facts in favor of bias. Apple makes great products, but their phone is clearly for people who have never used a smartphone or a computer in their life.

Funny, especially since Apple basically changed the game in terms of smartphones. Everyone else is playing catch up.

And please, prey tell, what are these awesome advanced features that iPhones can't do faster and better?

Gosh, sounds like the new platform wars are here to stay. Instead of "PCs are for the power users and Macs are for people who don't do any real work", now we'll have the same crap with Android v. iOS.

The one thing I hate about Android phones is that you'll never know if your phone will get the next gen OS. My friend is still waiting for ICS to come to his Spring phone.

Buy a nexus device and you don't have to worry. The nexus s is getting longer support than the iphone 4. Its getting full blown jellybean and not a stripped down ios 6 like the iphone 4.

I don't believe the story about freezing & crashing. But let's just go with your claim. It doesn't take a computer whiz to address whatever's causing it.

Yet that said, I'm sure you've never experienced a computer crash, so I understand the horror of the experience. Very traumatic indeed.

Just because you want your phone as an ftp, ssh, web server and all the other crap you spouted off in other threads, doesn't mean everyone else does. I have actually servers for those needs. Try using the right tool for the job, any first grader knows that.

Wirelessly posted

Good luck with your new phone. Take stock on your eBay resell value. Don't expect that when you sell your Android.

Also, with NFC coming soon I hope the thousands of infected Androids users don't fall victim to the open society issues.

We will sadly mis not seeing anymore posts from you in this forum until your contract is up and you return to the fruit.

You're right. I'm lying. She has never had to pull the battery to restart it. She has also never had it freeze while taking a picture. Or turn on by itself while it wasn't being touched. She has also never had the camera app not save her pictures. I can't help myself but to lie about these things. She also does not want to get a new phone when our contract is up because hers is such a PITA.

If I had to guess at what was causing the problems, I would say either Android or the hardware. I've done some basic troubleshooting with her phone, but she does not want me to root it or install a custom ROM.

And I have had my iPhone lockup, crash and restart on me, but never while I wasn't jail broken. Worst I've had is an app crash back to the homescreen while not jail broken. Not saying others haven't had issues, but I only used my iPhone 4 or 5 months while not jail broken.

Also wanted to add, we have a Kindle Fire and haven't had any major issues with it. It's not as smooth as an iPad or anything, but it's main use is as an e-reader with occasional web or app usage.

No one cares if you switch from iOS to Android or vice versa. Do whatever you want without having to tell everyone. No one cares. If you don't like iOS, you don't like it. Simple as that.

Android is fun for the First few weeks then you will miss iOS. Apps are what make you love the iPhone and iPad.

This was definitely the other way around for me. After owning an Android, there is no way I would see myself on another iOS device again. I will probably sell my iPad 2. Not sure yet.

If you want a larger library of apps, then yes iOS is the way to go. If you want a device that can e customized to fit your lifestyle, android is the way to go.

The screen size of the iPhone is big enough a deal killer - add to that the 4.1 stuff - Google Now, Navigation, Real Chrome, Polish and Butter, Great Multitasking and it quickly becomes impossible to consider the iPhone.

Ready to throw away my iPad after my Nexus 7 arrives - just wish there was a iTunes U clone for Android.

I believe you can use doubletwist for the iTunes U subscription on the android platform.

I will admit, as a current iPhone 4 user, JB on the Nexus caught my attention. With little to no actual details (rumors do not count) I am actually considering ordering a nexus from google as a backup phone (not a replacement, since I am heavily invested into apples eco system).

One thing I did notice, the apps definitely lack the polish of IOS apps, but the OS is catching up.

I also have a degree in software engineering and I'm mostly satisfied with iOS.

I like many features about Android but I'm not really one to tweak my phone. I love keeping up with tech news but in terms of my own phone I just think of it as a tool.

Let's Not Bash... Let's Discuss

OK. I'll be serious, stop joking & being sarcastic.

Here's my take on Android & iOS.

First, notice how I said "Android & iOS" _not_ Android VS. iOS.

That's because I seriously enjoy them both, each for their respective strengths. It's one of the reasons I spend the money to maintain two lines, two data plans, etc. That's because for me it's genuinely worth it. Oh sure I will admit I have a strong bias towards Apple. After all I've been using their computers since the System 7 days in 1991. To be fair I should also disclose I'm a huge Apple shareholder. Yet that aside I'm really into all things related to Mobile Communications & Computing. Therefore I've got top of the line Laptops & Smartphones on all platforms.

Bottom line? Why hate? Why bash? Why not enjoy whatever your personal preference is... and if your interested, join in a discussion of various platforms _without_ turning it into a war.

That's what I prefer, a fun enjoyable _Discussion :)

Not everyone will feel that way but I did. I loved the HTC One X at first but I started to miss some of the aspects of the iPhone after about a week. It is cool when you first start loading widgets and changing around your home screens. Android does home screens much better than iOS for sure. The option of keyboards was kind of cool but annoying at the same time. On the one hand it’s nice to have options but on the other hand you have to spend time with several different keyboards to figure out what you want. With iOS you just got used to the keyboard and that was it (unless you jailbreak of course). I still like android and think there is always a chance I will have one in the future but for now there is no big "gotta have it" feature that pulls me over there.

LOL. I guess that's why there are 4x as many developers for iOS than the Android platform. Right?

a 3YR old device gets official ios update and a Flagship android device 1 yr gets outdated and only 9% of total android devices has ICS. Ridiculous. I rather stay on iOS and guarantee device support

The nexus s came out in 2010. They had to update the 3gs because they still sell it. They stopped making the nexus s a while ago.
