Again my original point was it wasn’t the most popular, and it’s because of the size. Most of the iPhone market don’t want the max because of the size. That completely outweighs any of the benefits it has for most.
"I think the demand might even be less with the phone getting even bigger. Apple really needs to reign in the Max. It’s kind of ridiculous the size of it. It’s becoming more of niche product."

This is your original point. And it's utter nonsense. The demand for the Max line grows every year. Apple does not need to 'reign in' the Max. It's such a ridiculous statement. To state it's becoming a niche product is to declare its sales are going down every year, and the opposite is true.

I originally made my points and you keep digging in as if you are right. You are not right on this front.

Again, why do you keep saying 'most' iPhone users don't want the Max? Why can't you understand that there is a strong market for all 3 sizes, and that the fact that the Max sells less than the flagship is not a sign of anything negative regarding it? The Max sells less versus the flagship because of its size and price. Yes, absolutely. That doesn't mean Apple doesn't sell a ton of them regardless. That doesn't mean this product category isn't growing in sales year by year. Your original point is simply completely wrong.

Even for the models and configurations whose shipping dates have slipped, there is still *ample* supply available for in-store pick-up on the 13th. Every single one of the 8 stores near/ish me have every single config I checked. Mini, Max, different colors and storage.

It seems we're more or less at the time when - at least here in the US - there's no longer a reason to sweat setting an alarm and obsessively refreshing a browser to get your order in on time. Maybe in the next non-Covid cycle things will be different. Kind of doubt it.

Tim has always been a master at supply.

I mean no matter the reason doesn’t and shouldn’t diminish the perceived value of the product

I think people getting their phones at launch with ease is much preferable to near Christmas but it’s fun to speculate as to why it is

Especially when 12 pro is a bit further out and it’s been out a few weeks

The 12 pro is on average more backordered than max and mini many SKU’s still available for launch day
I wonder how soon the people who don't mind the size will start canceling and going for Max, causing the dates to finally slip

Also was hoping with the new phones coming out it would help Pro stock. But today there were 0/12 available anywhere in the 12 closest stores. At least other days, there was something, even if only 512GBs

Why is it that whenever this happens people say the demand must be low? Couldn’t it also mean that the supply is actually adequate?

I mean, why are we conditioned to think that the sign of a successful launch is the product being back ordered for months within minutes of going on sale? That’s actually a poorly planned launch when you think about it.

Well the 12 and 12 Pro slipped within 30 minutes, and during COVID I cant see them producing so many that they are ahead of any demand. And in other countries they sold out within minutes, so....... yeah.

They likely had a bigger supply for the US. I’m just saying that the goal is to actually have enough supply to meet demand, but when it does happen, people assume it’s actually a failure. It’s either complaining that they launched without adequate supply, or saying that there was no demand. 🤷🏾‍♂️

What are you calling a flagship? Is the iPhone 12 a flagship to you? The flagships are the pro!

I stand by my original post. The max is ridiculous in size, not the most popular, and more people will move to a smaller phone.

Yes, given the continued shortage of 12/Pro models, it seems that Apple simply misestimated the relative demand at the time they allocated the respective manufacturing capacities.

The flagship iPhone is the most popular model. This year it’s the 12. Last year it was the 11.

Again your original point is complete nonsense. In your opinion it’s ridiculous in size. That doesn’t mean it is. That is nothing but your opinion. I never ever said it was the most popular. And you have absolutely zero proof that people will move to a smaller iPhone. It’s a ridiculous vague declaration. Many people will also opt for a larger iPhone this year. The larger point as I keep saying is that the Max size simply grows in popularity. The absolute opposite of your original point is true.

People gotta have something to talk about...😋

Max's have slipped to 3 weeks here, mini still available for Friday in all size Gb, there's your answer to what people were waiting for here lol. Australia.

Tim has always been a master at supply.
Tim Cook said this just last week:

But if you look at iPhone, we are constrained today, and that's not a surprise, we are at the front end of the ramp, if you will. And how long we will be supply constrained, it's hard to predict. I mean, we haven't taken orders yet for the iPhone 12 mini or the Pro Max either. But right now, we are supply constrained. We are also supply constrained -- for avoidance of any confusion, we're supply constrained on Mac. We're supply constrained on iPad, and we're supply constrained on some Apple Watches as well.

No where did I say or imply its a failure. Truth is like how the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro and all other years and models, within 20-30 minutes at most we see times start to slip. I am just surprised that the 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max are not seeing that same path. By no means does this mean its a failure, especially seeing as in other countries its selling out within minutes as expected. But with that said, if you think in a year of a Pandemic and Supply Shortages of parts (They are tapping into iPad parts to build iPhones right now) that Apple somehow for the first time got ahead of demand, thats hard to imagine happening this year. Apple also thrives on them selling out quickly, that is what helps build the demand, excitement, and pre order buzz every year.

At the end of the day, all I was saying is I am shocked that 8+ hours in, launch day delivery is still available. Nothing else.

4pm ET, yeah still seems around Philly you can order any color and pick it up next Friday at multiple stores around here.
Varies SLIGHTLY when it comes to delivery. Many 128GBs, still Nov 13 delivery. The 256GB's, those now show "Delivery Nov 24 - Nov 30"

I figured the 12 Pro's would be more popular - seems like this is the perfect size for many.
But I did think Pro Max would be backordered within one hour, guessed wrong.

it did take me 20 minutes to pre order. 😂checkout kept getting error message in the app.
finally went through on their website.
...that was fun, and also fearing the ship date would slip (lol, nope..my panic was not needed)
Also after hitting "Place Order" and getting errors 20-25 times, I was fearing I just purchased $25k+ in iPhones!

I gave up on the app and it finally went though on my desktop.

Yes I am shocked there are still times to pickup for max for Friday. Super expensive phones just aren’t popular this year with a lot of things coming into perspective, and priorities being change. A $1200 phone just isn’t at the top of the list.

Not surprising. This was the first year in a while that I almost didn't upgrade. With the election, the pandemic, etc. it feels less "fun" this year. Plus, the upgrade from the 11 Pro to the 12 Pro seems more marginal this year, whereas in other years the feature set seemed more vast.

Yeah, I think the delayed release played a big part too. Also COVID can’t have helped. People just don’t want to spend the money.
The difference in the price between an iPhone 12 pro and the iPhone Pro Max is $100. I think size is the determining factor.

Oh I agree, but the 12 vs 12 pro. I think the 12 was the most popular, but if your comparing the 12 pro vs max it’s absolutely the size.
