Those of you who think Apple will be Ive’s first customer at his new firm have never penned an executive’s separation statement to the press/Wall Street.

This.

More than likely, Ive has a non-compete clause making sure he will not work with Samsung, Google, or Microsoft on any designs that would compete against Apple.

He hasn’t left. He is now a consultant. So basically charging Apple more $$ for doing the same work.

He will be missed.

How do you figure? What design changes has he done? Old MBP ? New MBP lets see load the specs in the cadd program resize, see what the engineering side needs for the ports, boards, cheesy keyboards that fail, ribbon cables that fail on displays. Yes I know there is a LOT more detail involved but from my perspective he's no worth what he's paid. Listen or watch him on interviews or presentations, seems like an arrogant individual. Best of luck too him. Apple will continue to pay his astronomical fee's for horrible designs and we the consumer will pay it.

Obviously he is not a run in the mill meeting-man, certainly he wasn't aspire to hold Chief of X, Head of Tail, Leader of Y sort of positions. To be fair TC tried his best within his capabilities which obviously not synchronised like Steve with I've. He is probably a passionate executioner of great ideas with his own brilliance. He seems to be obviously not a team player like in the football clubs, but as a professional he must have shown his attitude on the right side by not frustrating his team being the Chief....sometimes we give too much importance to the corporate glory with imaginative titles, but genius like Ives never get impressed but we can't obviously blame TC.

I'm no Cook fan, but its hard to deny that he's taken Apple to new heights that Jobs never did, where as Ballmer did the opposite.

hardly... he kept the ship pointed in the direction Jobs set year ago, throwing money at Jony Ive's status quo or investors (by paying out dividends), with flattening iOS sales and Ive's departure we are now entering full blown Tim Cook era, era where Steve warned about bozos, obsession with profits etc and decay / absence of good products helping people

Tim Cook will in my book go down as Scully 2.0

That's the company line. This is the typical way to manage the narrative of high profile people leaving a company. If Apple announced that Ive was resigning and riding off into the sunset, that would have an effect on Apple stock in the short term, and confidence in the Apple brand in the long term.

But by claiming that Ive will still be involved in designing products for Apple, it helps mold people's perception of what's going on, and allows people to think that future Apple products are still being designed by Ive. (no one on the outside would really know)

The $17,000 Apple Watch was one of the most moronic thing they've ever done, IMHO. I'm fairly certain they gave most of them away to celebrities so the watch line could gain from free press coverage, but I find it hard to believe that even Jony Ive would have thought they'd sell many of them.

Pretty much everyone knew they would be obsolete in the matter of a few years, making the "investment" worthless.

I wonder where all the unsold gold Apple Watches are... Hopefully not in a landfill next to all the unsold Lisa computers.

They should pull the guts out of them, replace it with S3 internals, and sell the lot of them for $2500 each. At least they wouldn't be collecting dust somewhere.

You really believe that? Do you really think Apple would accept paying more (esp under Cook) for less service (as Apple would not be the only client)?
Dream on, it is something to make it look like they are on good term and not to hurt stock prices, also do you really believe he is the only one who can design stuff?

Might need to look around the wed, plenty of talented artist with top notch renders!

I'd bet Tim Cook would jump ship before any **** hits the fan. He's too obsessed with his perceived image.

This was sadly inevitable after Cook became CEO. Apple has increasingly focused on pleasing shareholders, which means operational efficiency, quarterly projections, short-term ROI and minimal risk. Apple got where it is because it was willing to take bold risks and lead the market in design and innovation, but Cook isn't a leader, he's just a caretaker. A very skilled caretaker, who can keep the boat sailing indefinitely, but not someone who can take them somewhere new and uncharted.

Ive was the CEO Apple needed after Jobs' death.
One way or another, it was always inevitable that Ive would leave Apple. Cook will leave too, someday. That’s my prediction, and I’m 100% sure it will come true.

Hey I can save Apple 2.67 billion dollar, just give me Cook place for 5 years (yes 5 years plan) at 2 million a year, no bonus and no stock.
I'd take the job!

"Tim Cook made over $136 million in total compensation in 2018, including a $12 million bonus. Apple revealed that CEO Tim Cook was paid $15,682,219 in 2018 in an SEC filing. That doesn't include $121 million in Apple stock that vested last year.12 gen 2019"

For some reason Johnny Ive is auto corrected to Johnny I’ve but Jony Ive stays Jony Ive. This is on iOS of course.
